Activities at Newington Court Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator here at Newington Court constantly strives to mentally and physically stimulate those we support in our home. We have our own minibus enabling residents to go shopping, to the local garden centre, out for fish and chips, and for boat trips in the summer. We also have regular visits from the PAT dog, musicians and entertainers. We hold cheese and wine evenings for residents and their families and our residents attend services at the local school for Remembrance Day and Christmas. The junior school also come in and sing for our residents at Christmas. The residents also attended a Christmas Party held at a local Grammar School hosted by the students.

Life at Newington Court Care Home

Jubilee Celebrations

At Newington Court we like to observe special national and international days. In June we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We decorated the home and garden with hand crafted decorations in red, white and blue. We had a party in the garden with family, friends and staff where we had live entertainment with Liam Joseph and later we joined the hula hooping demonstration in the beautiful sunshine. We enjoyed a feast of  coronation chicken sandwiches, strawberries and cream, scones and jam and a glass of Pimm’s! The kitchen staff made a beautiful celebration cake and we danced the evening away!

VE Day

We like to observe special anniversaries at Newington Court and VE Day is no different. We reminisced about our own memories and celebrated in the garden with a few drinks, nibbles and music

Arts and Crafts

Following our sunflower theme this week, we have been painting our own sunflowers to display in our living rooms

Gardening Club

At Newington Court, now the weather is starting to improve, we like to do our bit in the garden. This year we are growing our own sunflowers and having a competition to see who can grow the tallest!

Easter

We love to bake at Newington Court and this Easter we made some Bird’s Nest Easter Cakes. We enjoyed them at our Easter party later in the day. On Easter Sunday we had a little wine with our traditional lamb dinner and were treated to an Easter Egg.

Grand Nationals

To mark the Grand National we had our own horse racing activity. We each owned a horse and answered a series of quiz questions before rolling the dice to proceed to the finish line. We had to be careful not to land on a forfeit square!
