Activities at North Park Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Claire Liddy

Activities Lead Coordinator

Hi, my name is Claire, and I am Lead Activities Coordinator at North Park. I first started doing activities in 2007 and fell in love with the job. I came to North Park in 2019 as lead Activities Coordinator.

I like to involve the local community in events within the home, so we have connections with local churches, schools and community groups. We have a PAT dog that visits weekly, so our residents can enjoy pet therapy, and lots of external entertainers, who come into the home regularly as well; in addition to fairs, monthly coffee mornings, family and friends events and so much more.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at North Park Care Home

Big sleep out to raise funds for charity

Care home workers from Barchester’s North Park care centre in Darlington spent 24 hours on the streets last month to raise to raise funds for Help For Heroes.

Staff and residents at North Park had been discussing what charities they wanted to support.  Residents at the home expressed how they would like to raise money for Help For Heroes, a charity very close to many residents’ hearts and so staff decided to take part in The Big Sleep Out in order to do their bit to help.

Holly & the Ivy

Staff and residents across our homes were treated to an interactive virtual Christmas-inspired table decorating masterclass, courtesy of talented master florist, Kathryn Delve.

Kathryn is an independent florist based in Somerset, she specialises in creating unique wedding and event flowers.  She takes much of her inspiration for her displays from the beautiful scenery that surrounds her home and the changing seasons and colours.

During the workshop, residents were invited to join Kathryn to make beautiful Christmas-themed table decorations.

Remember, Remember the 5th of November!

November 5th marks Guy Fawkes Night, a tradition in the UK where bonfires and fireworks light up the night sky.  But why do we celebrate this?.......

It dates back to 1605 and the infamous Gunpowder Plot, where a group of English Catholics, led by Robert Catesby and including Guy Fawkes, planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Their aim was to assassinate King James I and challenge the Protestant-led government.

Children in Need

On Friday we supported BBC Children in Need by taking part in Bluey’s dance mode challenge.  Staff and residents linked up throughout the day with staff taking part in the 24hr sleep out, each time the home linked up everyone proceeded to dance.

Residents and staff in the home dressed for the occasion and hosted a Pudsey themed coffee morning.  Children in Need raises money to help support local charities and projects who provide essential frontline help to children and young people throughout the UK; so we were of course thrilled to be able to take part in supporting this fabulous cause!

Walk through a landscape

Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Emily and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to Reubens' Rainbow Landscape.

Residents truly enjoyed the sensory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.

Everyone who joined had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to put their creative skills to the test by painting some landscapes of our their in the coming days!

Spreading random acts of kindness

The homes management team visited Darlington Police station with a hamper of goodies as a 'thank you' for the amazing support they have shown to the home.

The officers were both shocked and delighted to receive this hamper of goodies, and commented on "how they could see how much the staff care about our residents".  On behalf of everyone at North Park, we would like to thank you for the hard work and dedication shown each and every day.
