Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

St Andrew's celebrations

The residents at Oak Grange in Mollington enjoyed a celebration of Scottish culture and fare to mark St Andrew’s Day on Wednesday 30th November.   In honour of Jesus’ first disciple who promoted kindness and is laid to rest in Edinburgh, head chef Simon Burn baked traditional Scottish foods including haggis, neeps and tatties, shortbread, cranachan and apple and bramble pie accompanied by a wee dram for everyone to enjoy.

In the afternoon some of the residents took part in an ‘Ultimate Scottish Quiz’ where things got very competitive. We had Chris and Joan playing bagpipe music, highland dancing demo via zoom, and virtual tour of Scottish landmarks.

Music reaches new heights

We were delighted with our delivery of brand new IPods at Oak Grange. Residents have enjoyed listening, singing and dancing away.

Each IPod has been designed with music to a specific genre/era. There is something for everyone! Music is such an important part of our day here at Oak Grange. We can’t wait to keep dancing away.

Owl Visitors

We had a very special visitor for our Animal Therapy session this morning at Oak Grange. Meet Spike the Barn Owl.

Spike, who is a fantastic 8 years old came along with owner, Pamela to meet our residents at Oak Grange.

We had some very brave residents amongst us, as many had the opportunity to hold Spike and give him a little stoke.

A visit from the Children of St Oswald's

Our residents have had a lovely afternoon as we welcome the lovely children from St Oswald’s Primary School to Oak Grange. Working together, we have been working on a perfect Remembrance Day Display. We had some fantastic future artists in the room!

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed chatting to the children, we can’t wait for our next visit.

Come sing to feel good!

We had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper as he led an amazing virtual singing session for our residents to enjoy.  Our residents were able to learn different techniques as they sang ‘ I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees.  There were smiles and laughter all around. The session was such a success and was great for mind, body and soul.

Harvest donation

Residents, loved ones, friends and staff members at Oak Grange celebrated the Harvest Festival by donating a food hamper to a local charity.

The occasion was also marked with singing of hymns and light refreshments really helped everyone at the home get into the spirit of the festival. Food donations brought in by visitors were gifted to a local homeless shelter which were very well-received.

The Harvest Festival is a celebration of food grown on land and, traditionally, a time for families and communities to get together and bring food to the less fortunate. It dates back to the fifth century, where it was common for the harvest season to be celebrated with a huge feast – and from then the tradition grew and evolved.
