Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Rachael Turner

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

Elf for Alzheimer’s day

At Ouse View We celebrate Elf for Alzheimer’s day in style whilst raising funds for a worthy cause. Staff and residents adorn their outfits and head gear. We discovered our individual elf names, electrifying tinsel toes, Gifty Santa’s helper, happy blooming baker, Giggly tiny tinker, cheesy shimmy shaker, winky red nose, electrifying sky navigator, happy jingle toes, jingle snowflake designer, cheerful pointy ear, which created a lot of fun and laughter. We were also saw the antics of jingle toes elf on a shelf.

Seasonal Crafting

This week at Ouse view we take inspiration from the seasons and our natural world. Using materials found within the garden and grounds residents enjoy creating autumnal pictures. Each resident selects their own materials and arranges in a way that is attractive and personal to them.

Gilbert and Sullivan Society Visit

Today at Ouse view we are delighted to receive a tongue twisting performance by “ The Gilbert and Sullivan society” from York university. Among the cast is one of our very own carer Luke Siever. Gerald our new resident recalls himself playing in the orchestra in the original performances of Gilbert and Sullivan in York theatres Residents roar with laughter and enjoy the enunciated singing by this talented group.

Gingerbread House Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Ouse View care home in Fulford love any excuse to get creative so when they found out it was Gingerbread House Day on December 12, they didn’t need any persuading to get cracking! The staff and residents asked head chef Sean to whip up a big batch of gingerbread for them and then got busy decorating with icing, buttercream, marshmallows, dolly mixture, candy canes and edible glitter to make some of the glitziest gingerbread houses in town.

Stargazing!

Residents at Ouse View spent the afternoon stargazing under an improvised ceiling of stars.  Virtually, we observed and learnt about the wonders of the night sky.  Admiring the stunning lights. Resident Betty gushed; “It is so marvellous”.

Other residents were asking about the many constellations that fill the sky at night and enjoyed spending time with the group of fellow stargazers.

International Men's Day

To recognise our gentlemen on International Men's Day, we treated them to a trip to one of our local pubs. We were given a very warm welcome by the lovely Donna from the “Bay Horse” in Fulford. Our residents sat by a roaring fire whilst enjoying a drink, some sandwiches and reminiscing of old times.
