Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

Residents say 'A big thank you' to staff member

Ouse View would like to give a special thank you to one of the staff members who goes above and beyond in his many roles here at Ouse View in Fulford.

Kevin Field takes the time to go above and beyond in all things maintenance here at Ouse View, from hanging pictures, moving furniture and driving the mini bus to trips out.

Kev is just one of our highly valued staff here at Ouse View, Kev mentions, ‘I enjoy my varied roles here at Ouse View, every day is a new challenge’.

Kev has worked for Barchester since 2020 and has enjoyed spending time with residents, collecting medication, gardening and undertaking most remedial works or and coordinating outside contractors.

General Manager, Pauline Hodgson; ‘Kev is brilliant, he works hard and this is a well-deserved reward for all his hard work, thank you’.

One of our lovely residents seen in the image, Peggy, very happily thanked Kevin for all his hard work, especially sorting the Wifi connection on her Laptop and ipad.

Staff complete Memory Walk to raise funds

Ouse View Care Home staff raised money for the Alzheimer’s Society and completed a Memory Walk at Castle Howard in York.

The Ouse View team raised a fair amount for the charity, this is to be relased later in the month as they continue receiving donations for completing the walk.

Virtual Cruise Experience

We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.

Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.

Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.

Burnby Hall Visit for Animal Day

Residents at Ouse View Care Home in Fulford enjoyed a fun packed afternoon at Burnby Hall for World Animal Day on October 4th. Residents enjoyed the Gardens and animals at the hall and loved listening to the birds and feeding the fish by the pond. Later in the afternoon they enjoyed coffee and cakes in the sunshine.

Making Memories

At Ouse View Care Home this last week we have been making strong friendships, learning more about each others lives, past occupations and hobbies.

Residents enjoy hot beverages and freshly baked cakes with great company. This is so important for our residents to be with each other and enjoy fun activities along with relaxing activities such as reminiscing and sharing memories.

A little Magic in Ouse View

Ouse View Care Home in Fulford has been bringing a little magic to the Residents with weekly sessions with our ‘Magic Table 360 and the Happiness Programme’ as a way to improve residents’ quality of life.  Provided in partnership with Social-Ability, and designed and manufactured in the UK, the Magic Table 360 uses interactive games to connect residents with staff and with each other, and research shows it improves the wellbeing of people living with dementia.

Using interactive light projections, the Magic Table 360, which can be played independently or in a group, stimulates movement by inviting participants to take part in all sorts of different fun activities such as popping bubbles, playing the piano, colouring in pictures, sweeping leaves or interacting playfully with fish. Games are rich in colour, movement and detail, and allow people of all ages to play in a safe and comfortable environment.
