Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

Residents discover the history and treasures of Hereford Cathedral

Residents had a lovely afternoon joining the team from Hereford Cathedral as they were given a glimpse of the spectacular building and its treasures as they were taken on a tour of the site.

From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library, the virtual visit shared the history and beauty of the historic building.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.

Home donate to York Church Food Bank

Ouse View care home in York, wanted to give a little back the community by donating to the local food bank York City Church.

On our long awaited Residents and Relatives meeting last month Ouse View sent a message to all of our families of loved ones in the home to ask for their support in building a box of two for the monthly food bank donation.

A huge thank you to all staff who also donated, today we handed over one very large and very heavy box!

Pauline Hodgson, General Manager at Ouse View Care Home, said: “Building up these baskets for the food bank was such a great thing for us to be able to do. It’s for such an important cause at the York City Church where they have weekly food banks, we hope to help out where we can over the years to come. Another huge thank you to the relatives of our Residents for such generous donations’.

Home enjoy live stream from safari park

Here at Ouse View we were pleased to be able to dive into the wild safari life of Knowsley Safari and to enjoy an amazing live stream tour of the park’s grounds.

Our residents were smiling and laughing as they got up close and personal with some of the safari’s most popular animals, including giraffes and meerkats.

We had a wonderful time learning more about the animals and enjoying some live feeding demonstrations.

Home raises funds for local charity

Staff and residents at Ouse View in Fulford have held a raffle to raise money for local charity, Dementia Forward.

Residents, their relatives and staff were all very supportive and were there to support the charity Dementia forward by taking part in a ‘Raffle Draw’ whilst enjoying high tea and buck’s fizz in the homes luxurious surroundings.

Blooming Haus at Ouse View

Here at Ouse View in Fulford, we were delighted to spend time creating a beautiful floral masterpiece to enter the #BloomingBarchester competition in partnership with Blooming Haus following their amazing virtual flower arranging masterclass.

We all had a wonderful time decorating and working on our arrangement and we are happy to say we were impressed with our skills in applying all the tips and ideas learnt during the class to make a colourful floral design.

Home welcome entertainers back!

Ouse View is excited to welcome entertainment back into our home as restrictions are easing, though social distancing is maintained throughout.

Staff and Residents at Barchester’s Ouse View care home in York were treated to a live performance from our lovely local singer Hannah Witcomb, from the City of York Church.

General Manager, Pauline Hodgson said: “Hannah’s singing lifted the staff and Residents, the Residents were singing along to each song, lots of lovely upbeat jazzy tunes we all knew.”
