Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Rachael Turner

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

The Return of the Hairdressers

Here at Ouse View Care Home in York hairdressers are finally allowed back into the home after the Lockdown.   Residents have been waiting patiently for months to get their hair cut and styled and so they were delighted to be able to book in for a long overdue cut and blow dry today with Christine. Pauline Hodgson, General Manager at Ouse View commented: “Our residents are just so delighted to be able to get a good cut and to feel fresh again, Tony looks like a new man!”

World Chocolate Day

Ouse View revelled in all things sweet for World Chocolate Day with a range of chocolate treats. Residents enjoyed an exciting chocolate tasting session, of seven varieties of chocolates and flavours! In the afternoon, we tried a variety of chocolates including, Pure White, Dark Orange, Dark Mint, Hazelnut and some of our classic favourites KitKat, Milky Bars, After Eight and Buenos. The all-time favourite  was Dark Chocolate Mint.

84TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Celebrations have been in full swing at Ouse View as one of our residents reaches her 84th birthday in style yesterday! Pat, Ouse View resident and birthday girl, was smiling all day long as celebrations happened in the gardens in the afternoon with her family. Pat’s family said: 'We spent a lovely afternoon with mum on the sunny terrace of Ouse View overlooking the gardens. It was very special to be able to share in mum’s birthday in this relaxed environment, with the warm and caring team and other residents here.  Thank you for the delicious birthday cake which completed a super afternoon visit.'

V&A Virtual HELLO ROBOT

We enjoyed a wonderful virtual introduction to the world of robots with V&A Dundee Curator, Kirsty Hassard.

Kirsty talked us through the history of robots and their early beginnings, the presentation traced the fascination of all things wired and wonderful and considered what the future might hold for our relationship with a multitude of mechanical machines.

It was absolutely thrilling to learn what robots can do now and what they might be able to do in the future.

Blenheim Palace’s Historian Talk

We had a lovely time exploring the amazing gardens of Blenheim Palace through a virtual talk, hosted by the Historian - Antonia Keaney.

We enjoyed a virtual look at how the gardens at Blenheim have developed over the past 300 years - from the formality of Henry Wise through to the ‘natural’ landscape created by Capability Brown and beyond.

Everyone was very impressed by the many jewels hidden within the 150 acres of beautiful gardens.

Dartmoor Zoological Park Adventure

Ouse View Residents went to Dartmoor Zoological Park for an exciting virtual adventure today. Our residents and team learnt interesting facts about the unique history of the charitable zoo, whist enjoying a virtual walk from the top of the drive to the Tiger enclosure. A lovely experience enjoyed from the comfort of our very own Cinema lounge!
