Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

Easter celebrations at Ouse View

Staff and residents at Ouse View in Fulford were busy scheduling a variety of Easter themed activities for all residents to enjoy during the holiday.

In the UK Easter is one of the major Christian festivals of the year. It is full of customs and celebrations. However, Easter in Britain has its beginnings long before the arrival of Christianity. Many theologians believe Easter itself is named after the Anglo-Saxon goddess of the dawn and spring - Eostre

Over the years, many Easter traditions have taken shape, everything from chocolate bunnies to Easter egg hunts.

To celebrate Easter in style, the home was decorated with Easter eggs, bunnies and colourful banners to bring positivism and holiday spirit. Team members and residents also created a beautiful Ester display to cheer everyone up.

Throughout the day, everyone got involved in a variety of fun-filled activities, from enjoying hot cross buns and making Easter wreath to quizzes, poetry and puzzles.

The residents had the opportunity to learn more about the Easter traditions and reminiscence about how they used to celebrate the day.

Home enter Easter cake competition

Eyes down for a game of bingo

It was all ‘eyes down’ as Residents at Ouse View in York recently enjoyed a friendly game of socially distanced bingo in the homes light and airy dining room to win prizes for the first to call, ‘House’!

As part of the homes life enrichment programme, the team includes firm favourites in the homes calendar with fun filled adapted games that they have played over the years in a safe environment.

Easter craft workshop

It has been a colourful afternoon at Ouse View in York as residents enjoyed an Easter themed arts and crafts workshop. Residents have had a great time as they show their creative flair in making Easter decorations to display around the home.

They are looking forward to having some fun leading up to the homes Easter celebrations, making chocolates, hot cross buns, cards and something a little special – an Easter Bonnet for a parade!

A little flutter at the races!

Our residents at Ouse View recently had a fun day at the races and didn't even have to leave the warm and comfortable lounge to enjoy the thrill of Cheltenham Races, a highlight of the racing social calendar.

They cheered on their favourite horse and enjoyed a cup a tea, cakes and a glass of their favourite tipple, whilst having a little flutter on the gee-gees and the ladies donning their race hats! One resident picked a few favourites and won a tidy sum - shame it wasn't real money!

Home goes green for St Patrick's Day

Residents and staff at Ouse View in Fulford celebrated all things Irish for St Patrick’s Day this week. The home was decorated with shamrocks and everyone got dressed up in green to mark the day.

Held on March 17th, Saint Patrick's Day actually observes the death of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, but the day has come to be a huge celebration of Irish heritage and culture.

Staff and residents at the home marked the day by all staff wearing green, having Irish music, Irish quiz, virtual tour around Ireland’s beautiful landmarks, and finally watching some Irish dancers in river dance.
