Activities at Paternoster House Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at Paternoster House Care Home
Blooming Marvellous!
We've been celebrating Chelsea Flower Show with our own creative flower arranging session lead by home volunteers; Christine and Sue.
Created and run by the Royal Horticultural Society, Chelsea Flower Show is the world’s greatest flower show with stunning garden designs and gorgeous floral displays.
Residents at Paternoster House had an array of fresh flowers and greenery to choose from; shop bought, and many handpicked by Christine and Sue courtesy of their own blossoming gardens.
As they handled each stalk to make up their personalised display the floral aromas, and the scent of Philadelphus shrubs more commonly known as 'Mock Oranges' flooded the room. Several of the ladies recalled their wedding bouquets and we reminisced about the flowers each contained on the big day!
Brenda, a resident at Paternoster House added: “It’s been a lovely activity, the different colours and fragrances have helped bring the outdoors in.”
General Manager, Corina Popescu said: “Our garden is a much loved space, our residents really enjoy looking after the plants and flowers and watching them grow and change through the seasons. It has been wonderful to see all the beautiful garden designs at Chelsea, it has given us real inspiration to try some new planting schemes and see what we can achieve in our own garden.”
Buzzing About World Bee Day
Staff and residents were buzzing to celebrate World Bee Day on May 20th. Created by the UN, World Bee Day is an annual global event raising awareness of the importance of bees for the survival of our ecosystems.
During the arts and crafts session, as our residents made pretty bee mobiles we had a bee-rilliant time learning all about bees and how the world relies on these amazing pollinators and how we all need to protect our bee population given their importance in the food chain.
Perfect Performance from U3A
On Thursday 16th May we were joined by the wonderful u3a Waltham Abbey Choir who enthralled our residents with a selection of songs we could all sing-a-long too!
Thank you so much for coming in and entertaining the Paternoster family with your fabulous melodies.
Tea Dance for Dementia
Thank you to everyone who attended our monthly 'Tea Dance'! It was lovely to see friends and local community members come together, share experiences, and offer support to one another.
We hope you found the wonderful Heidi McCaffrey as sensational as our residents do, she never disappoints, always able to get us up singing and dancing!
Please join us at next month's event on Tuesday 11th June as we continue to foster understanding and compassion for those living with dementia.

Dementia Action Week - Beach Holidays
Here at Paternoster House we’ve planned a variety of fun-filled activities for Dementia Action Week.
During the week, our residents will learn more about the importance and emotional benefits of singing, music and physical exercises through themed singalongs, gentle exercise sessions and live entertainment.
We started with week with an opportunity to get involved in reminiscing 'Beach Holidays' discussions through positive memories, tactile play, art and conversations about their childhoods and past holidays with their children.
Resident; Judith told us all about her holidays abroad, particularly in Spain!
'Dave' Delights
Another perfect performance from 'Dave' who had us up dancing and hand jiving!
