Activities at Paternoster House Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Happy St Andrew's Day

St Andrew’s Day was the perfect excuse to debut The Paternoster House drinks trolley and it was a big hit!  We have a choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on offer.  The drinks trolley was requested by residents and with help from families who have donated different glasses we can serve the drinks in style!  The ladies have requested Snowballs and a Babychams with Christmas only a few weeks away!  We continued the St Andrews Day celebrations in our Pudding Club with a lovely tasting Dundee Cake made by our hospitality team.

Oh what a night.....

Paternoster House residents and staff had a fabulous evening at the Waltham Abbey Cavalcade of Lights. What an absolute honour to be in the parade and to see Alfie switch on the lights and be given his gift of an overnight stay to Legoland Windsor for his family. We cannot thank the amazing Paternoster families, residents and team for making Alfie's dream come true. 11 Year old Alfie has been fighting Osteosarcoma (Bone cancer) over the past Seven Months.

The team came together to make the Paternoster House Mini Bus look just like it was made for a carnival! Before the parade we were invited for drinks at the Waltham Abbey Town Council, we then took part in the parade around the town with the team handing out sweets and leaflets alongside the minibus in the slightly chilly weather! The residents had a ball waving to the children as we drove by and even picking up celebrity guest Bobby Norris in the minibus to save him the walk back!

Thank you so much to all of those who took part, we cannot wait until next year!

These Hands.....

These hands with the poppy give such a poignant image of Remembrance, many of our residents were children during World War 2 or born during war time.  They are forever grateful that family members returned, but sadly many lost relatives they would never get to know.  Paternoster House created a display of Remembrance as well as photographing these hands......

Amazing George

Paternoster House were delighted to support 5 year old George as he took on The Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk.  The Home were so pleased to present the cheque for £250 from the proceeds of a raffle held at the home along with kind donations from family, friends, residents and the Paternoster House team.

This donation will be added to over a £1000 already raised by this amazing 5 year old.  George said “I walked for my nanny and all the other nannies and grandads with sore heads” Maddie presented the cheque to George, Sarah O’Toole, George’s mum and Nanny Lesley who is a resident at Paternoster House.

George also wanted to say a special thank you to Sandy Phillips, the home’s Activities Coordinator he said his wish come true by taking part in the 5k walk, they were photographed in front of the Paternoster House wishing tree.  The tree is for residents to put their dreams and wishes onto a branch and the amazing team will do all they can to make these a reality.

Joyful Entertainment

We started this week with a wonderful performance from one of our many talented entertainers, David.  He got us up dancing and tapping our feet as well has waving our hands in the air.  The power of music to lift mood and our general well-being is shown by how happy the residents are when we have entertainment.
