Activities at Paternoster House Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

My aim is to ensure every resident is as happy and active as possible. We host a wide variety of activities and live entertainment including singers and bands, animal and music therapies, art sessions, gardening and outings to the local community.

I love getting to know new residents and their families and helping them to settle into life at Paternoster House.

Life at Paternoster House Care Home

Sunshine nursery

A wonderful morning spent with the children of sunshine day nursery and pre school. Residents and children enjoyed a teddy bears' picnic to celebrate national picnic week. We also had a special surprise visit from a teddy bear herself provided by the amazing Matelu Mascots. Everyone had a fantastic morning full of laughter and fun and we look forward to seeing the children again very soon.

Fire Safety Talk

Today we were joined by the wonderful Samantha Harrington from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service for an educational talk on fire safety within our homes. Samantha spoke to staff, residents and relatives about the importance of not over loading extension leads, phone chargers and smoke alarms. Our lead maintenance Roy Gill explained that the session was very well delivered and reassured our residents that they are safe within our home. Roy explained that all our staff are well trained to deliver the correct action in an emergency.

Royal Mint Museum Box

In February 1971 Britain adopted a decimal currency. This was a momentous event for the whole country, with every man, woman and child having to change the way they used money. Handling and chatting about pre-decimal coins can be a positive and nostalgic experience for people who lived through the changeover so, as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, the Royal Mint Museum developed reminiscence sessions.

The reminiscence session took the form of a ‘Museum in a Box’, containing replicas and original objects from the time for people to handle. Each object was fitted with a special micro-chip which, when placed on the box, played audio clips specific to that object. This was a fun and stimulating activity, giving people who lived through the changeover an opportunity to talk about their memories.

Our Carers Are Amazing

To celebrate national carers week here is a little message from some of our residents at Paternoster House to say thank you to our wonderful staff.

We are all very thankful for the incredible work of our carers, who work tirelessly; many of whom take on more responsibilities, work longer shifts and do whatever they can to put the care of our residents first.

We appreciate all the work that you put into making the life's of our residents your number one priority and always going the extra mile.

Prosecco In The Sunshine

What better way to end the week then to sit in the sunshine with a glass of Prosecco?

Our residents today enjoyed an afternoon in the garden soaking up the sunshine with a glass of Prosecco while listening to the best of the 50's.

Here at Paternoster House, we have several beautiful outdoor areas and enjoy making the most of them during the nice weather
