Activities at Queens Manor Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Shannon Cullen
Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.
I ensure that myself and the team get to know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home - Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.
In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way. Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Queens Manor Care Home
Barchester Charitable Foundation Appoints New Trustee
Queens Manor are delighted & proud to announce that Shannon Cullen – our Senior Head of Lifestyle & Enrichment – has been appointed to the role of trustee within the Barchester Charitable Foundation.
Established in 2000, the aim of Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is to help older people and adults living with a disability or mental health problems in local communities across the country. The charity provides grants to improve mobility and quality of life, and each year the Foundation distributes over £150,000 to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
Pumpkin Festival
Shannon (senior head of lifestyle & enrichment) & Dawn (night shift team leader) took the lovely Meg and Rosemary on a countryside adventure to East Lothian today!
We boarded our minibus and headed for the pretty town of Haddington - a walk around the river, lunch in costa and then headed to Kilduff Farm for their pumpkin festival - which was just perfect!
Thank you to all the team at the farm - especially Bob on parking & Tara on the gate - the whole experience was just wonderful and so accommodating to all!
As you can see by the photos below - the group had a great time! Especially Meg, who found her self having a rest in a wheelbarrow!
We now have a beautiful selection of pumpkins for the home, which will be used in a carving session next week!
Macmillan Coffee Morning
We are delighted to say that we raised £53.71 at our World's Biggest Coffee Morning today! Everyone had such a good time, chatting and listening to music over a cup of tea and a slice of cake (or two)! Thank you so much to all the staff, residents and visitors that took part and assisted with this event!
International Animal Day
In celebration of international animal day, the residents and staff had a wild day interacting with various animals! Our friends at the ZooLab came to Queens Manor and brought some of their little creatures to say hello! We were able to hold and interact with various animals - including a snake, giant snake, tarantula, rat, millipede & a giant cockroach ! We invited our friends from the local Peek-a-boo nursery (ran by CC Nurseries) along to enjoy the fun and it’s safe to say they were all very brave and enjoyed the experience too! As you can see by the photos below, everyone had a great day!
Not just a team, but family!
At Queens Manor, we realise that times are hard and trying for our staff - given the cost of living crisis and general state of the country. As such, the team have been working on our all new Well-being Trolleys - these are regularly stocked with toiletries and essentials that our team are able to use whilst on shift. Natascia - our Well-being Champion has said “we are not only a team at Queens Manor, we are family… and family help each other”
