Activites at Queens Manor Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Shannon Cullen
Senior Head of Lifestyle
Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.
I ensure that myself and the team get to know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home - Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.
In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way. Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.
Celebrating life at Queens Manor Care Home

Here comes the brides!
Congratulations to our Deputy Manager Coral, who married Carla on Wednesday! There was a super turnout to welcome them as residents and staff were treated to wedding cake and fizz, and we partied to celebrate with them into the evening. Thanks to the happy couple for sharing with us!! All the very best.
We love a celebration and big thanks to the team who all worked hard to make this a special treat for everyone - creating a fantastic atmosphere from which to send the newlyweds on their way.

Celebrating our carers!
Thanks to our carers, who do an amazing job all day and night - every day! We appreciate everything you do. We know that our residents' families and visitors appreciate you too, because they tell us so! Residents made individual cards to help celebrate Carers Week and Resident Ambassador Audrey was happy to join in for the photo!
Everyone at Queens Manor is an important member of our Team - none of us can fulfil our role without the care and support of every other person. Thanks to all of you from all of us!

Residents 'Get Moving'
This week residents and staff participated in Get Barchester Moving and Tour de Barchester. We were walking, dancing, stretching, cycling and gardening - all to get us moving and help keep it that way!
It's so important as we get older to keep moving as much as possible to help maintain our mobility and strength, and we have lots of fun doing so! Well done everyone!!
Rosie walks round the garden every day, several times. The rest of us were joining in as best we could to fill the week with fitness and fun !!

A Friday blether!
All day Friday socialising: blethers in the weekly coffee mornings (or any morning actually!), and drinks in the sunny garden later. This is a great way for residents, staff, families and friends to spend time together, catch up and experience Queens Manor Hospitality!
Did you know we also host our Dementia Cafe every Thursday on Memory Lane ? Everyone is welcome

Joy Rides!
Thanks to Joy Rides - a breath of fresh air today - despite the cooler breeze, ladies Audrey and Cathy enjoyed a bracing jaunt at Cramond. As you may see, they were well-cosied, including bonnets, and both ladies reported having an amazing time!
We've got several more such treats in store for residents - thanks Lisa!!
Outings like these are fun, an excellent way to socialise and maintain connections with our community whilst deriving the benefits of being outdoors in our great Scottish weather!

Intergenerational magic
Intergenerational magic today in Memory Lane with Flying Colours Nursery from Cammo Meadows. This is a regular bi-weekly visit and different children come each time - to give as many wee ones the opportunity to experience our care home environment, and spend time with our lovely folk!
Such activities promote wellbeing, diversity and inclusion for everyone. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Celebrating the dedication of EIFA volunteers.
Our General Manager, Margaret, recently attended an event in City Chambers hosted by Edinburgh Interfaith Association and attended by the Lord Provost, to celebrate the dedication of EIFA volunteers.
Barchester Healthcare, EIFA, Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Scottish Care are collaborating again this year to bring the Fringe Cares Festival to Queens Manor Care Home - Barchester Healthcare , a founding home - and to an amazing 13 other care homes in Edinburgh. Including, of course, our sister homes Strachan House, Archview Lodge Care Home - Barchester Healthcare and Drummond Grange Care Home - Barchester Healthcare. This will enable over 1000 Care Home residents in Edinburgh to participate in the fabulous Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Remarkable!!
Residents enjoy a vibrant celebration of culture
Residents and colleagues here at Queens Manor enjoyed a lively and vibrant celebration of culture with our African colleagues, embracing diversity in a way that brought everyone together. Our colleagues dressed in traditional clothing from their home country, sharing their culinary delights and unique traditions with everyone at the care home.
We celebrated their dress, music and dance. Everyone enjoyed learning about their culture and traditions and would like to thank, Care Assistant Josephine for coordinating this wonderful activity.
Spending time with our community friends
A huge thank you to our local PCSOs for visiting us and taking time to answer all our questions and share valuable safety tips.
It was a busy morning with the children from Flying Colours nursery also visiting. They had fun too!
We loved seeing you all, and we look forward to you visiting again soon.
