Activities at Queens Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Shannon Cullen

Senior Head of Lifestyle

Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.

I ensure that myself and the team get to  know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home -  Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.

In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way.   Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Life at Queens Manor Care Home

The Slorach

As a huge thank you for all our colleagues hard work over the past year and a half, the management team at Queens Manor arranged for The Slorach to come and treat all of the staff to some beautifully cooked, homemade food as a reward for all of their continued work and for consistently exceeding expectations!

As most of you will know, we have one of the best, caring and kind teams in the industry and they work hard every day - come rain or shine, day in and day out!

Creative writing with Mike Gayle

We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.

We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.

Cruising with Unilever

We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.

Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.

Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.

Great success for Macmillan!

All of the staff and residents at Queens Manor hosted a MacMillan Coffee Morning to raise some much needed funds for the MacMillan Cancer Research.  We used this time to talk and reminisce about our lives so far and of course enjoyed a cup of tea and a piece of cake (or two!)!   As you can see… we put on quite a spread which went down very well! Thank you to the residents, families, volunteers and visitors at Queens Manor for donating money, cakes and time to make this such a success !

International Housekeeping Week

We are celebrating International Housekeepers week here at Queens Manor - this was originally a day celebration that first began in 1981 and since grew into a weeklong celebration!  This week is dedicated to recognising the effort and hard work done by custodial staff members.  We would like to acknowledge and say a huge thank you to the Housekeeping and Laundry team here at Queens Manor. Not only do the team excel in their roles every day, but they have been an integral part of the team during a global pandemic - these unsung heroes are on the front line, keeping our facilities safe and hygienic for those who work, visit and live here at Queens Manor.

To thank them they have been given an award of excellence and a gift bag full of goodies from the residents and staff. We hope you join us in celebrating what a wonderful housekeeping team we have her at Queens Manor! Thank you Ian, Emma, Kylie and Iris. As well as Linda and Vikki who are not pictured below!

Puppy Therapy

The residents are loving the now bi-weekly visits from Sal!  This is now her 4th visit to Queens Manor and to say that the residents are in love with her, is no word of an exaggeration!  As soon as everyone reads on the activity programme that she is coming, the countdown is on!   The amazing reactions we have seen from the residents is incredible - she has even helped residents settle in & offered a great companionship !
