Activities at Queens Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Shannon Cullen

Senior Head of Lifestyle

Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.

I ensure that myself and the team get to  know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home -  Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.

In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way.   Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Life at Queens Manor Care Home

Hermit the Tortoise Pays us a Rare Visit

Queens Manor are lucky enough to get regular visits from Harry & Angela and their gang of Therapets but we're not usually graced with the presence of, Hermit-by-name-hermit-by-nature, Hermit the tortoise! This week our residents were thrilled to see this adorable little reptile make a rare appearance.

Tortoise’s (depending on their personality!) love to be loved and when Hermit came to visit, he was definitely in an affectionate mood. At 10 years old, hermit is a youngster and we all enjoyed holding him and stroking his head. We hope he’s in the mood to come back for another visit very soon.

Parsley The Therapet Cat Comes To Visit

We know that having animals can have a calming effect on residents, many of whom owned pets in their life and shared great companionship.

Harry comes in every weekend with his Therapets and our residents love to see them and a have a cuddle and play.

As well as Parsley the cat, pictured here saying hello to the residents, Harry brings Malcolm the long-haired dachshund and his other sibling kitten, Basil.

Halloween Party

Queens Manor became a den of ghoulish activity last week for Halloween! Residents, staff and guests all enjoyed face paints, parties, games and music and we were thrilled with a visit from our little friends at Flying Colours Nursery, they showed us how bobbin' apples is really done!

Trip to Rosslyn Chapel

Trip to Rosslyn Chapel

A trip out to Rosslyn Chapel, a beautiful attraction near Edinburgh, which ignites a lot of interest after featuring in Dan Brown's – Da Vinci Code. One of our residents’ most favourite places to visit when we’re out and about in our bus.

Dementia Friendly Talks

Traditional Scottish Dance

Traditional Scottish Dance

Our residents love traditional Scottish dancing and we love a party even more! We were filled with so much energy and warmth joining in with the Ceilidh Kids led by Caroline. It was such a fun afternoon and our dance moves were rewarded with lots of lovely tea and cakes.
