Activities at Ross Court Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Ross Court Care Home
Halloween Party
Residents of Ross Court celebrated Halloween with a party on Saturday 31st. The home was decorated for the occasion; there were plenty of real carved pumpkins, as well as all of the paper pumpkins that the children of Brampton Abbotts Primary School made for us.
Residents took part in games, such as pumpkin bowling, 'guess the number of sweets in the jar', blind trick or treat and Halloween ABC.
Residents' faces were a picture during blind trick or treat, especially if they were unlucky enough to choose the chunk of lemon rather than chocolate. The anticipation of each resident was so entertaining for everyone.
It really was a fun-filled evening. Thank you to everyone who helped to make the evening a scream!
Halloween Celebrations
Residents of Ross Court will be celebrated Halloween with a party 31st October with games, such as, 'guess the number of sweets in the jar, 'trick or treat blind tasting' and pumpkin bowling!
Residents wanted to maintain contact with the community around them as much as possible, so invited two classes of Brampton Abbotts Primary School to take part in a competition. Students were asked to decorate a picture of a pumpkin. Residents were so impressed with all of the entries. The children obviously took a lot of time to come up with their designs. Residents gathered in the conservatory to carry out judging the entries, which was not an easy task, as all of the pictures were amazing.
Remembrance Sunday
Residents of Ross Court have always played a very active role in the Poppy Appeal. Ross Court has always remembered and honoured the fallen by selling poppies and wearing them with pride.
COVID has meant that this year, we cannot sell poppies due to not being able to have visitors into the home.
Our Deputy Manager, Kate, has been liaising with the local representatives of the Royal British Legion. They have very kindly offered to carry out a service by Zoom.
The Legion has also suggested that residents and children of our staff decorate poppies and display them in our windows. They will then judge the poppies and provide the best design with a prize.
Residents have begun decorating the poppies whilst reminiscing about experiences during the wars and how they have continued to honour the fallen.
Our Poetry Appreciation Club recently focused on “in Flanders Fields” and have suggested that we also display a copy of this iconic poem in the window.
Games Club
Residents at Ross Court have started up a table top games club. The favourites so far are cards and Scrabble. Residents have really been enjoying playing these games in the Strauss Lounge. Residents were so engrossed in these games that tea and coffees were mostly left to go cold!
Chinese Dining
During our last residents' meeting, residents came up with the suggestion of Chinese cuisine for our regular themed dining experience. The last theme was Italian.
Residents enjoyed a superb selection of Chinese dishes, prepared by our talented chefs. The dining room was decorated with flags, dragons and lanterns. Wine was sipped while listening to relaxing Chinese music. It was a lovely time to all get together and enjoy a fantastic meal together.
Residents have been playing with some ideas about our next themed dining experience, but nothing has been decided yet. I think we are all too busy planning our Halloween party!
Knit & Natter
A number of residents have been meeting once a week for their 'Knit and Natter' group.
Residents had set themselves the task of knitting squares to be made into blankets to donate to a local animal shelter. Some of our residents had not picked up needles and wool for many years. They are now producing squares at a steady pace. It’s a lovely opportunity for the group to get together, have refreshments and a good natter. The group have been so proud to see their efforts turned into beautiful blankets and so pleased to know that they have been taking part in charity work.
We have some seasoned knitters on our staff team and they have also been bringing in squares, as well as many staff donating money that has been put towards purchasing food and treats to take with us to the Animal shelter.
All the donations were gratefully received by the Hereford and Worcester Animal Shelter.
Residents have said that they have enjoyed this project so much that they want to continue knitting blankets and possibly find other charities to donate to.
