Activities at Ross Court Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Pint Anyone?

Life doesn't stop when you live at Ross Court, in fact life just gets started!

This week some of our gentlemen have been visiting pubs in the local area. Today was the Travellers Rest for some beers and coffees. Fun and Games at Ross Court

We love playing games at Ross Court! Here are some photos of the fun activities we did recently. One of them was a balancing game with foam protectors that I got from a scaffold. We had to pass a ball on the foam without dropping it. It was a great exercise for our bodies and minds!
Another game was to make a ball go through six holes in a box, in numerical order. It was tricky but we did it!
We also played solitaire with large cards. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. We have been playing it a lot lately.

Happy 100th Birthday Jean!

Jean Pains turned 100 years old and we at Ross Court were thrilled to join her family in celebrating this amazing milestone. Her son Peter, her daughter Sally and some of her nephews and nieces came to share this special day with her. We had a cozy party in the dining room, just as Jean wanted. Hayley, our activity coordinator, made the place look festive with some lovely decorations. The kitchen staff prepared some delicious sandwiches and cake for everyone to enjoy. Jean's family also brought some bubbly drinks so we could toast to her long and happy life. It was a wonderful and intimate occasion for a wonderful and inspiring lady.

Fun in the Garden

The sunny weather has been a delight for the residents of Ross Court, who have been spending more time in the beautiful gardens. They have also been busy with gardening activities, such as weeding the raised beds and planting various crops and flowers. They planted tomatoes, sunflowers, courgettes and pumpkins, and shared their gardening tips and stories with each other. They are hoping that the squirrels won't nibble on their plants, and are looking for a kind way to deter them.

'Made In Ross'

Ross Court had a wonderful local artistic group visit us from a shop called Made In Ross.

Chris showed the residents what she knits, from very large knitting needles to very small, to create her art work of scarfs, rugs and jewellery. Frances gave us a demonstration of how she smashes up bottles to create her sculptures and relief pictures. Steve wowed us with his amazing Raku fired pots and his wife Sarah who is a weaver showed us her scarfs and bath mats that she had created from weaving. Residents had questions for each artist, there was lots of interest in the group activity.

Fun & Games at Ross Court

A few photos of some of the word games we play, along with nurf gun shooting game.  Residents also love balloon tennis and balloon quiz. In our balloon quiz game, as I tap the balloon around the room, I shout  "STOP !" the resident who is holding or tapping the balloon last, answers one of my quiz questions. Some are tricky, some are fun, and some are just daft and don’t make sense at all, but they all love it.
