Activities at Ross Court Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

104th and 105th Birthdays in the Same Week!

In the midst of the Christmas celebrations we also had two birthday parties in one week with remarkable residents celebrating their 104th and 105th birthdays.  Rhona Burston is fabulous, she does not look anywhere near 104.  Phyllis Goddard walks around Ross Court, which is amazing for 105.  Both ladies play a very active role in life at Ross Court taking part in yoga, crafts and flower arranging as well as thoroughly enjoying our live singers.

Both Phyllis and Rhona played an important part in World War 2.  Phyllis worked in a factory making electric lamps for use on ships and aircraft.  Rhona worked at a local reporting centre, where her job was to count incoming enemy aircraft and calculate where they were heading, telegraphing played a vital role to warn targets.  It is a privilege to talk to them and hear about their life experiences and the team and residents were delighted to celebrate these milestone birthdays.

Santa Visits Ross Court!

Santa Claus made a special visit to Ross Court today with two of his amazing elves. Bill Ramsden, our resident ambassador welcomed Santa and his two elves into the home.

Santa met with other residents and children throughout the afternoon handing out presents and checking his list for Christmas Day.  It really was a wonderful afternoon with hot chocolate topped with marshmallow and cream, along with cookies, cinnamon swirls and cakes made by our Head Chef, Tammy.

Christmas Treats for Local Food Larder

This week Amy, General Manager and Catherine, Customer Relationship Manager were delighted to be able to drop off a big box and overflow bags to the St Mary’s Church, Ross-On-Wye Community Food Larder.  Thank you so much to our families, friends and team for so many kind donations.

The larder are creating special bags for Christmas so the treats we dropped off will go towards these, along with the staples for every day. We really hope this will support the community who use this amazing voluntary service over the coming weeks. We must also mention the volunteers without whom this larder could not run and this is all also supported by Morrisons Ross-On-Wye, by their Community Champion, Naomi.

Ross Court are so grateful for the visits this year from schools in the area, thank you for your time and bringing lots of smiles.
