Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Outstanding Origami
Today at Sherwood Lodge, our creative residents tried their hands at origami! This was a new craft for many, but they took to it like pros.
Although this craft definitely requires “trusting the process”, they stuck with it and ended up with beautifully folded flowers.
The residents were clearly inspired as we left the session overflowing with ideas for what to make next! Stay posted as we try seasonal origami crafts in the coming weeks and months.
Good music, better moods
Music boosts our residents' moods better than anything else! They find such joy in singing and dancing along to their favourite tunes and reliving memories from their pasts.
Today, they had a blast using the instruments to add their own spin on their favourite songs.
National Allotment Week
This week our crafty and green-fingered residents have been doing their part for National Allotment Week.
First, they decorated their own plant pots to be used in our garden. Then, they get their hands dirty potting and planting more beautiful flowers, and making sure our plants are well watered in this hot weather!
Finally, they selected their best flowers to proudly bring around the home, showing their hard work off to the other residents! Safe to say everyone was very impressed with the selection, some picking their favourites and sharing gardening tips with each other!
Senior citizens day
Today, we celebrated World Senior Citizens Day, with some very special help from the children and staff at Discovery Vine Longsands.
The creative and talented children kindly sent some artwork to our home, letting our residents know that they were appreciated on this special day. The residents admired their creativity and were charmed by the effort put into making such meaningful gifts for them.
This years Senior Citizens Day theme was “Empowering Elderly Voices for an Inclusive Future”. The afternoon was full of reminiscence, chatter and storytelling as the residents reflected on how grateful they are to feel so included in their community! They also offered very wise and thoughtful advice to young people today.
Sherwood sings its heart out!
Game on!
A fun afternoon was had playing snakes and ladders, ring toss and dominoes at Sherwood Lodge!
Many laughs were had as luck wasn’t always on everyone’s side during the games, but thankfully, everyone was a good sport and were happy to celebrate each other's wins.
Birthday Celebrations
The staff at Sherwood Lodge were thrilled to welcome our dear resident Pat’s friends and family to celebrate her 90th birthday with her!
Her family went above and beyond with gifts and cake, and even ordered fish and chips to have a delicious birthday lunch.
We made sure that the room was well decorated with balloons and banners for this wonderful occasion!
Pat and her family had a wonderful afternoon full of joy, laughter and delicious food together, and we’re so glad to have been part of Pat’s big day.
Afternoon tea for Breast Cancer Now
Today our staff, residents and their families had a fantastic time raising money for the worthy charity Breast Cancer Now.
The sun, music and delicious cakes and sandwiches were enjoyed by all! The highlight of the day was definitely the raffle in which many lucky winners won amazing prizes from local businesses listed below!
We are so proud to have raised £156 for this incredible cause! Thank you to everyone for your donations. This money will fund breast cancer research, support for those affected by breast cancer, and campaigns for improved treatment and services.
Afternoon Tea
VE Day arts and crafts
Our ladies gathered over tea and coffee to help make and design some decorations for our upcoming VE day celebrations.
Our residents used this time to chat about all their wartime memories.
Animal visit
Today at Sherwood Lodge we welcomed some four-legged friends in to visit us! Our residents were thrilled to see Merlin, the Shetland Pony and his sidekick Leopard Tortoise in the home.
The afternoon was filled with excitement and laughter as the pony ventured around the home greeting our residents whilst getting plenty of strokes , closely followed by the tortoise (who’s faster than he looks!)
International Day of Sign Language
The staff and residents of Sherwood Lodge warmly welcomed our friends in the deaf community as well as a BSL Tutor from Deafway into our home today. Everyone shared laughter and stories over a delicious buffet before focusing on a BSL and Deaf Awareness talk.
Rizwana, from Deafway, was an incredible tutor and taught residents, staff and relatives many useful signs, including different greetings and feelings (along with other very important signs like ‘chocolate biscuits’).
Stories were then shared of what going to school and working was like for people who are deaf and what experiences they faced growing up. It was an incredibly enlightening and educational conversation for many of us and we’re grateful to everyone who has shared with us.
We’re all looking forward to practising using sign language around the home and continuing on our BSL learning journey.
Day out in Lytham
Today, our residents enjoyed the best of Lytham, having delicious fish and chips for lunch, before taking a trip down memory lane at the arcades.
The residents enjoyed their meals while being well entertained by the eager birds, who were quick to snatch up any dropped (or thrown) chips! The residents had a wonderful afternoon playing arcade games, and were overjoyed with their wins, proudly showing off their tickets!
The afternoon was full of laughter and storytelling, sharing memories of childhood trips and games! The residents were thrilled by the “novelty” of visiting the arcades again!
We Get Moving!
VE Day celebrations
On May 8th 1945, celebrations erupted around the world to mark the end of World War 2 in Europe.
Today we held our own VE day celebrations at Sherwood Lodge, with residents gathering to remember, reminisce and celebrate.
Our dining room was set up beautifully by our amazing activities' coordinator, Selina, and host Pam. And a delicious spread was made by our talented chef Nanaki. We listened to music of the era and printed out old photos to spark conversations about what our residents could remember.
A lovely afternoon was had by all.
