Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Emma Powers

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Emma Powers; I am the Activities Coordinator here at Sherwood Lodge.

I have worked in the care sector for over two decades; prior to this I was a soldier in the UK Armed Forces where I gained exceptional powers of communication, organisation and teamwork. During my time as a carer I have gained my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and have been employed as a Senior Carer. I chose to switch professional roles to activities as I find supporting both residential and dementia residents very rewarding.

I have been employed within Barchester for over three years, I love working for this company and am really excited to continue to care for all of its residents and their families.

Life at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Showing our appreciation!

Random acts of kindness can mean so much!

These simple acts can remind us of the importance of expressing our thanks and appreciation for those around us and make someone’s day. Today, colleagues surprised General Manager, Tracy and Deputy Home Manager, Karen with a beautiful bouquet of flowers each as their thanks for all that they do in the home and following a positive internal report.

It’s a whole team approach here at Sherwood Lodge

Coronation Celebrations

Long live the King! Our residents had an amazing day celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III. The bunting was up, flags were flying and hats and crowns were on, ready to continue the celebrations throughout the entire weekend.  We even discussed residents' memories of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II back in 1953. For some residents, today was a recreation of the street parties they had back then!

So many of our families came to celebrate with us and wonderful memories were made for us to look back on for years to come.

Residents dream comes true

What a wonderful day! Some of our residents 'Wish Tree' dreams have become a reality. Their wish which had been hung on our Wish Tree, was to go to a garden centre and that's exactly what we delivered as we granted their wish with a visit to Barton Grange Garden Centre. They had the best time together, browsing the aisles, looking at the plants and enjoy a coffee and slice of home made cake in their cafe.

The sound of music

The hills are alive with the sound of music! Our Residents have enjoyed being creative this morning and making melodies together. Never mind Britain's Got Talent we have Sherwood's Got Talent!

Dominoes Competition

We have had an abundance of mental stimulation and hand eye coordination activities today with our wonderful Activities Coordinator Mewish. Her support and interaction with our residents today has brought such joy.

There has been competitiveness playing Domino's, concentration while craft making and hand eye coordination while painting.  It truly boosts our residents well being to come together and interact with a range of activities together.

Balloon fun

How much fun can you have with balloons? Our residents had plenty of fun playing a selection of balloon themed games from, who can keep the balloon in the air the longest and balloon tennis.

There was lots of laughter and everyone showed a little friendly competitiveness.
