Activities at South Grange Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home
Love is in the air at South Grange
South Grange care home, in Monifieth, was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day. Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by inviting the residents loved ones to join them for a romantic valentine’s lunch prepared by our chef Bernard, they enjoyed a wonderful meal and glasses of bubbly with the ladies receiving red roses and chocolates.
General Manager, Catherine Lappin, said: “We’ve all had a lovely day celebrating and receiving gifts from loved ones. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either in person or via video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”
Much needed fresh air
This week the activity staff and some residents wrapped up warm and headed out into the cold for a walk around our beautiful nearby estate for some much needed fresh air after being stuck in doors for a few weeks. One of our residents Alan was delighted to join us for this walk and enjoyed reminiscing about his days of walking his two German shepherd dogs through the woods as this was his favourite place to let them off their lead and roam free. Alan is looking forward to getting out more into the fresh air especially when the sunshine comes out too.
Murdoch Domino Competition
The Murdoch trophy was donated by former resident Murdoch’s family after he sadly passed away. Murdoch was a keen domino player who loved to play with fellow residents and staff. We held our domino tournament where Michael and Margaret were our finalists. We are very pleased to be able to present our overall finalist Margaret with the Murdoch Trophy.
National Carrot Cake Day
We had a fantastic time celebrating National Carrot Cake Day, everyone agreed it had to be up there with one of the best days of the year.
Our residents tasted Carrot Cake that was specially prepared by our head Chef, Bernard, we also had a good old cup of tea/coffee to go along with it which was just the icing on the cake (no pun intended).
It was a fabulous day, enjoyed by all and more importantly we had a good excuse to eat Carrot Cake at any time of the day.
National Croissants Day
Residents and staff at South Grange celebrated National Croissant Day the right way … by having one with our morning cuppy.
Residents thought this was a great idea instead of having their usual biscuit. There was a variety of fillings to choose from such as jam, soft cheese, smoked salmon, butter and fresh fruit with cream. Some residents gave their fillings order to our activity team where they then prepared them. Whist other residents wished to make their own which was lovely to see how independent they were being.
National Puzzle Day
Residents at South Grange celebrated National Puzzle Day with fun-filled activities and, of course, plenty of themed games.
Our residents enthusiastically selected their favourite puzzle types, diving into jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, word-searching puzzles and more.
In the afternoon, we organised a friendly puzzle-solving competition and were joined by friends, family and local community members.
Look at the determination on our faces!
