Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Residents and staff at South Grange celebrated nutrition and hydration week by sampling different fruit flavoured teas instead of their usual cuppas. They also made smoothies using different fruits (apples, mangos and raspberries etc.) and different bases such as cream, ice cream and/or fruit juice. Followed of course by tasting them. Everyone agreed they were delicious!

Historic Royal Palaces

Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Virtual Book Club

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.

World Book Day

Residents and staff at South Grange celebrated World Book day with our local nursery. The children came to sing us their favourite sings which were I Had a Tiny Turtle, Twinkle star and Wind the Bobbin Up. They read their book and brought a special guest along with them – the nursery’s own therapet, Lola the dog which was a big hit! The children had also been busy before the visit, baking biscuits for us to enjoy with our cuppas. Everyone, including the children agreed that the biscuits were delicious.

Pie Day

Residents at South Grange spent the afternoon testing their knowledge about all things pie with a quiz. Topics that were covered were from the outside (pastry) to the inside (sweet/savoury fillings). Once they completed the quiz they then started to get peckish so out came the homemade pies from our talented chef for our residents to spend the rest of the afternoon taste testing. There was a good selection of savoury (chicken curry, mince, scotch and macaroni) and also sweet fillings too (apple, raspberry and cranberry). Afternoon of pie tasting was enjoyed by all!

A visit from the local nursery Children

Residents enjoyed spending the morning with our local nursery children who visit on a regular basis. The children picked activities for everyone to join in, this week the children wanted to play with the skittles before having the best time with our parachute. The games were full of smiles and laughter all around as we all worked together to keep the items on the parachute and waving the parachute up and down for the children to collect the toys underneath.
