Activities at South Grange Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Gillian Conway
Gill has worked for South Grange since 1996. Gill's role in the home is ensuring our residents enjoy a fulfilling quality of life. The programme that Gill and her colleagues provide is stimulating, creative and varied.
Gill enjoys the time she spends with residents and families. The team welcomes any suggestions made by residents and family members in relation to activities.

Life at South Grange Care Home
Wine tasting virtual event
We had a lovely time joining Hospitality Manager, Christophe Noel and special guests Lee Isaacs DipWSET and Nick Parker from Unity Wines and Spirits – as they introduced us to wine tasting techniques, the history of wine and wine making, as well as consumer attitudes.
Our residents had the opportunity to try a variety of wines from sparkling and white to rose and red, alongside a selection of delicious treats.
It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.
Home mark's Housekeeping Week
Residents at South Grange care home in Monifieth, run by Barchester Healthcare, are celebrating Housekeeping Week, which takes place from September 12-18. Residents wanted to thank all the wonderful housekeeping staff at the home, whose hard work and dedication make a real difference to the lives of those living there.
Housekeeping Week is an annual event held every year during the second week in September. The week is dedicated to recognising the efforts of hard-working housekeeping staff around the world.
Residents and staff reminisced about how housekeeping has changed during their lifetime, residents talked about when they first got domestic appliances such as washing machines and vacuum cleaners, and how their lives were changed by advances in technology over the years.
A flair for water colour
Residents at South Grange show their creative flair at their popular art club, this week Resident, Yvonne showed her talent with an amazing water colour, it has now dried and hangs proudly in her room for all to see and Yvonne is looking forward to the next session. The club is one of the many group activities planned as part of the homes life enrichment programme.
National Welsh Rarebit Day
We were very excited to celebrate National Welsh Rarebit Day in recognition of the Welsh dish made with a savoury sauce of melted cheese and various other ingredients that is served hot after being poured over slices of toasted bread.
Our residents enjoyed a delicious Real Welsh Rarebit prepared by our talented chef and spent time learning interesting facts about the history of the Welsh cuisine, whilst listening to the sounds of Tom Jones.
Last night of the Proms
We celebrated Last Night of the Proms virtually with members of English National Ballet’s Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Music Director Gavin Sutherland.
We listened and danced along as members of the orchestra took us on a magical, musical journey. English National Ballet Philharmonic is made up of many of the country’s top musicians, and boasts considerable experience in all forms of music-making. With insights and anecdotes into what it takes to conduct an orchestra for a world-class ballet company, this special concert got our feet tapping, arms waving and hearts singing!
It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.
Tuckshop treats!
South Grange have introduced a new tuck shop to their programme which residents are simply loving! The homes activities team have been allowing residents to choose their own choice of goodies from the shop. The pick and mix has a variety of sweets e.g. dolly mixtures, jelly babies, raspberry ruffles, fudge toffees and a selection of mints, these items have been a great success and firm favourites for our sweet tooth! They can also choose from a selection of crisps and drinks with the favourite drink being milkshakes.
