Activities at South Grange Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home
Residents enjoy cookery demo
To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s South Grange care home in Monifieth were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.
Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo. Much to residents’ delight, South Grange Care home chef Vicky had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.
Home celebrate VE anniversary
On 8th of May, staff members and residents at South Grange in Monifieth marked the anniversary of VE Day, also known as Victory in Europe Day, by organising a variety of special activities.
The home was specially decorated with flags and banners for the occasion, and at 11am everyone gathered together for a two minute silence as token of appreciation to the heroes of World War II.
In the afternoon, the residents got involved in a sing-along, themed talks and quizzes, and raised a glass to the nation, showing gratitude to “those who gave so much”.
Victory in Europe Day is the day celebrating the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces on Tuesday, 8 May 1945, marking the end of World War II in Europe.
Residents enjoy trip to Arbroath Harbour
Staff and residents at South Grange care home in Monifieth were celebrating being able to go on short excursions again as lockdown restrictions ease across the country. Residents are now able to go on a short trip to outdoor spaces without having to isolate on their return.
Residents from South Grange enjoyed a long-awaited trip to Arbroath Harbour where they were able to enjoy the lovely scenery.
Fiona Torrie, Operational Manager at South Grange commented: “It is absolutely wonderful to be able to take our residents out for trips again. We have all been waiting for this day and we are so thankful it is finally here. Our residents have enjoyed all sorts of different entertainment during lockdown but nothing beats some fresh air and a change of scenery to blow away the cobwebs.”
Home take virtual trip to Zoo
As part of Barchester’s Life Enrichment Programme, team members and residents at South Grange enjoyed an exciting virtual talk, generously hosted by Five Sisters Zoo.
The residents had the opportunity to explore and learn more about the animal life at the zoo and the important conservation, rescue and education work carried out at the grounds of the zoo.
Five Sisters Zoo was officially established in 2005 with just a small collection of rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, and pigs. Since then the zoo has grown into an exciting collection of over 160 different animal species from all around the world.
Double celebrations at South Grange
South Grange in Monifieth marked the Queen’s 95th birthday on April 21st in style by brewing up a storm for National Tea Day and having an afternoon tea party.
Head chef, Ross Morrison whipped up a tasty selection of freshly-baked biscuits, pastries and cakes for the occasion, all washed down with a selection of different teas. Residents took part in royal and tea-themed sessions including a documentary on the life of Queen Elizabeth II watching old clips of royal tours and occasions which they all enjoyed and had a discussion afterwards . Residents were all wearing their own colourful crowns.
Fiona Torrie, Operations Manager at South Grange said: “Our residents love nothing more than a good cuppa so they all really enjoyed the choice of different teas, cakes and events for National Tea Day, and, as a nation who truly loves their tea, it was great excuse for an afternoon brew and a natter. It was also a lovely way to say thank you to our longest reigning monarch.”
