Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Stacey Davies

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Chipping Norton Community Awards

We were given the very proud responsibility of supporting the Chipping Norton Town Community Award 2024 on Friday night. After successfully supporting the textile fair, we were asked to return this time providing canapes and drinks ahead of the awards ceremony last week. Our fantastic team put together a stunning range of food to enjoy, whilst our General Manager Arlene, and Activity Co-Ordinator Stacey got behind the bar for the evening to help out.The event was made even more special as Dr Sheila Parker, who lives with us at Southerndown was invited to attend as an honouree member of Chipping Norton. She was asked to present the William Fowler Allotment Award on the night. What a very proud moment for Sheila and her family, and an amazing evening had by all.

NAPA Arts Week

Let's Get Messy!!!!To mark the NAPA Arts in Care Home initiative we decided to get messy with a Jackson Pollock inspired afternoon!Jackson Pollock was an American painter. He was widely noticed for his "drip technique" of pouring or splashing liquid household paint onto a horizontal surface so it only felt right that we give it a go in Southerndown! As we have some of our rooms being decorated we used the materials to cover up walls and the floor and simply splash paint everywhere! It was great fun, and something completely different to our usual art club that we run in the home.

All Aboard

What an amazing experience and day we had this week at Toddington Train Station in the Cotswolds as part of our Men's Club we have here at Southerndown Care Home. It was incredible to get up close to history, seeing all the old steam trains on the famous platform and getting to learn more about how they operated and the journey's they went on.Known as the 'Friendly Line Of The Cotswolds' there was plenty to see and do and we will certainly be heading back again!!Thank you to all the volunteers that welcomed us for the day, it was a fantastic day and we loved every minute!

A trip to Dogs Trust Evesham

A huge thank you to Callum and the team at Dogs Trust Evesham for allowing us to visit and donate a gift basket put together by our residents and families of Southerndown Care Home.
It was amazing to see just how well the facility is maintained, the care and attention the dogs receive and the positive impact the team are having in trying to find forever homes for the lovely dogs currently being cared for. If we could take them all we would!!
Its important to remember the hard work and care that goes into supporting animals looking for families and new homes. The team at Evesham are a great example of what a difference we can all make, whether that be supporting future pet's or even giving our residents the experience of being out and making a difference to others!
Well done to everyone involved and we look forward to coming back again at Christmas time to donate more gifts.

Southerndown Dog Show

To celebrate National Dog Day we held our very own Dog Show in the home with some friendly four legged friends! To see all the children and residents get involved and having fun was a great experience for us to share.

Animal therapy is one of the cornerstones of our life enrichment program and features regularly on our resident-led weekly activity planner.
