"The home is taking excellent care of my dad. They are always really informative and helpful especially one member of staff in particular. He has been great. Although my dad doesn’t recognise us, he seems content. Visits can be difficult but the staff always ensure that he spends time with us and they always give up their time to talk to us."

"The family thanks the staff for their professionalism and kindness in patient management. We were grateful for the way in which staff worked with NHS professionals to provide palliative care for the patient. The end of the patient's life was treated with the medical arrangements appropriate to the patient's condition, delivered with great kindness."

"I came to Southerndown for two weeks to be looked after following my hip operations at the hospital. I have been very well looked after; the food has been excellent, also the nursing care. The tablets I need have always been brought to me at the correct time. Should I require help in the future, I would not hesitate to return."

"Southerndown staff cared for my mother from January 2019 until her death from old age in October 2021. She received care, kindness, compassion, superb medical care, company and respect. The staff are wonderful and have been brilliant over these difficult years. I would recommend Southerdown unreservedly."

"When we found the urgent need to place our mother in a care home, I was pleased when I contacted Southerndown to be able to discuss everything with the manager, who was very informative, understanding and helpful. She was able to offer Mum a place a few days later. The nurses and carers on Memory Lane have been wonderfully caring and supportive, enabling Mum to settle in a short time. She is definitely having more of a social life and stimulation than when she was living in her own home with a live-in carer. We are satisfied that she is receiving the best possible care in her circumstances."

"My mother was taken into Southerndown as a 96-year-old palliative care patient. She was not eating and barely taking fluids. My mother was put in a pleasant room with a proper hospital (adjustable) bed. The staff were extremely kind and attentive during her short say and always thoughtful to the needs of the family. My mother passed away peacefully on the 21st of March 2022."

"My mother stayed at Southerndown for the last year of her life. I could not be more pleased with the service they provided. Her stay was well managed, with attentive, efficient and friendly staff. The nurses always kept the family well informed of her progress, but above all, throughout her stay my mother was happy, content and very comfortable, which was reassuring for our family. Thank you to the Southerndown team for all your care and support."

"My mum was placed here as her dementia deteriorated very quickly after my brother's death and she could no longer be cared for by my father who was 90. I didn't know a lot about dementia before this point, as my mum was only diagnosed a few months before she moved here. However, the team and manager were so helpful, answering all of my questions and helping my mum settle in. I truly admire the staff and the job they do at Southerndown. They are always patient, happy, and engaging with people in their care. My mum seemed to know everyone in Memory Lane very quickly, and when I came to visit, they were always happy to chat, and I could just tell my mum was happy in what could have been a very stressful time (sadly, my dad passed away while she was here). The facilities are of high standard and Mum always speaks very positively about the food (especially the cake!). Huge thank you to everyone at Southerdown for supporting me and Mum during her stay."

"My 90-year-old mum recently spent a few days at Southerndown Care home in order to be able to attend her granddaughter's wedding. She was a little nervous about coming but was soon put at ease by the caring and compassionate staff, who did everything to make sure that the stay went smoothly. Her medication was handled extremely efficiently and we were also impressed by the quality of the food. The whole stay went very smoothly and as well as attending the wedding, mum felt that she had had a little holiday. Thank you to the fantastic team at Southerndown for making this possible."

"Generally very positive. My father is treated with kindness and respect. He is unable to ask for things or mistakenly believes he cannot have them, so constant offering of drinks and snacks would be welcome. The room is not smart but is adequate."

"Although my sister was only a resident at Southerndown for a few months, she could not have found a better home. For the first time in 2-3 years after the initial week or two, I have not found her so contented. The staff are kind and caring and there is generally a lovely atmosphere in the home."

"The level of care and compassion shown towards my mother at the home during her difficult last few months made me realise we had done the right thing. After a brief settling in period, it was obvious to the whole family that she was happier and more settled than she had been before. "Mum has been here now for 5 months and is as settled as can be. Southerndown is a warm and caring environment and I am much reassured by the thoughtfulness and friendliness of the staff towards my mum, they seem to be doing the very best they can to care for her. When I asked Mum how she'd describe this home, she responded 'friendly'."

"Some staff are not good on night duty! Lift out of action (2-3 weeks working) in one year! Help to make sure clothes are returned properly. Help when finished on the toilet/or dressing and undressing and making sure that clothing is down and comfortably tucked in! Curtains hanging off rails for 1 year in two places on landings! Why can the owner be in a nontaxable country and not worry?"

"My late father and my 94-year-old mother have received excellent care from nurses, carers, cleaners and the manager. They have cooperated with my sister and me when we have raised issues. My only negative is that the lift hasn't been for approximately 2 months which has added to my mother's mental confusion. The best thing would be to buy a new one."

"My grandmother was a resident at Southerndown Care Home from September 2022 - May 2023, when she passed away aged 100. The care provided was fantastic. The care home was a pleasant place to visit and residents always appeared content. They provided the family with a lovely home when we could no longer cope with my grandmother at home. We would recommend Southerndown without reservation."

"My husband with Frontotemporal dementia stayed for 1 week for respite care so I could have a break. He told me he liked it very much, staff are excellent and food lovely. He is trying to lose weight and the chef prepared him lovely light meals. He did some baking and Book Club and made some friends. He has said he would like to return in the future as he felt at home. The care team are so good and he felt cared for throughout his stay."

"I found my husband well dressed and having had his lunch, but still had room for a cake brought to him. He couldn't remember the house we lived in together, despite my showing photos of it - so sad. I tried to speak to a nurse who I had great difficulty understanding and was none the wiser about my husband's condition."

"We brought our cousin to visit her sister at Barchester Southerndown Care Home. We all had lunch together in a special room on our own. We had a very good lunch and a lot of different staff popped in to see if we were all right, including the chef. This home looks to be of a very high standard and the staff were so helpful and friendly. Our cousin appears happy and content here."

"Mum was in Barchester Southerndown Care Home for almost two years, before passing in December. We've been really happy with how she has been looked after. Full-time, caring, understanding, loving staff. Facilities have been refreshed to a very high standard in Mum's time. During her last few days, the care was outstanding. She was looked after so well and treated with such sensitivity and dignity. I couldn't recommend this home more highly. First-class people."

"I came to visit my great-nan today and on arriving, I was greeted by a lovely carer who was very polite and accommodating. The home has been beautifully refurbished to a high standard and feels like home. My great-nan said she is very happy and loves the food, especially fish and chips on Friday. I can see my great-nan is well looked after and content and the home is spotlessly clean. Overall, we are very happy with all aspects of my great-nan's care and living."

"Our friend came to Barchester Southerndown Care Home in May 2024. He was well cared for, loved the food and said the staff were lovely and kind. When we were looking for the best home, we decided upon Barchester offering all that was needed. The regional support manager and all the staff are dedicated and hardworking and treat all with dignity, care and respect, from the very friendly receptionist to all the staff."

"My husband has been a resident for nearly three years. He has advanced Parkinson's. I have always been really impressed with the care he receives and the kindness and consideration of the staff. "Barchester Southerndown Care Home provided incredible, kind, selfless care to my mother throughout her time in the home, from November 2022 until October 2023. We, as a family, have nothing but praise for the staff there who kept Mum smiling and laughing despite everything her dementia was doing to her. We would not have had Mum anywhere else. Thank you from all of us and from the bottom of our hearts."
