Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Residents thank our amazing nurses

Strachan House surprised its nurses today with a wonderful afternoon in honour of all their hard work and dedication they do within our home. A lovely afternoon was had by all when they were informed they were to stop what they were doing and have a seat so they could be spoilt and pampered in style. With a freshly prepared afternoon tea it was the residents turn to say thank you in recognition of all their hard work. Thank you to all our nurses for everything you do.

Celebrating the King's Coronation

Strachan House ended a full on week of Coronation themed activities with their Big Coronation Picnic event on the Sunday. After watching the historical ceremony on the Saturday residents and staff busied themselves to ensure their home on the Sunday was fit for a king. Adorned with picnic baskets and lots of fizz relatives, family, friends and local community were invited into the gardens to share in the special day. With local MP Christine Jardine also in attendance to unveil our rose bush in memory of the late Queen accompanied by great live entertainment from Diane Fields it was certainly a day to remember in our history. Moments like these make memories that will last a lifetime.

Local MP unveils rose bush

Local care home Strachan House has had a week full of royal themed activities but the fun didn’t stop there. They hosted The Big Coronation Picnic event on the Sunday 7th May for their residents, family friends and their entire local community. In attendance was local MP Christine Jardine who kindly accepted her invitation to unveil a rose bush in memory of the late Queen Elizabeth ll after her son King Charles lll take the royal crown on Saturday 6th May.

Christine Jardine spent the afternoon chatting with everyone who attended the event. Enjoying everything Strachan House had to offer Christine explained “It has been a lovely afternoon I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Chatting with the residents and staff has been lovely. Such a wonderful home and the amount of support was outstanding.”

The rich history of coronations

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

Preparing for the King's Coronation

Residents are very much into the spirit of our upcoming Kings coronation. With a week full of themed royal activities, we tried our hand at some floral tributes. Lots of ideas were contemplated but the winner was this star of the show. Named Coronation In A Cup our residents showed their budding green fingers and designed their centre piece that would surely be fit for a King. Amazing and very beautiful work.

Another fun visit from Cargilfield Nursery

Community is central to all we do here at Strachan House. It ensures our residents build connections and are able to be given to the opportunity to maintain those connections in the community that they live. One of our engagement successes is Cargilfield Nursery who are regular visitors to our home. Seeing residents and the children working together as well as developing friendships is a wonderful thing.
