Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Celebrating life at Strachan House Care Home

A trip to the Green Chapel

A trip to the Green Chapel

Followers, did you know that between the 1700s and 1900s The Rosslyn Chapel was known by many as the green chapel because it was so overgrown with fungus! Well, look at it now! I’m not sure about you but we all think this chapel is beautiful!

This week our residents enjoyed a tour around the Rosslyn chapel and a trip to the visitor centre. It was a wonderful day out and we think it looks even more beautiful with the autumn colours!
Intergenerational Halloween fun

Intergenerational Halloween fun

Our residents, staff and visitors had a super spooky time at the Strachan House Halloween Party! The party was silly not scary and featured crafting and traditional Halloween activities!

Staff, residents and the visiting kiddos enjoyed apple bobbing before moving onto eating a beautiful Halloween feast! It’s always so beautiful to see the residents' faces when the kids come in to visit! Huge shout out to Erica and the activities team for the face painting and all the fun! We had a truly FANGTASTIC time!

National Curry Week

National Curry Week

We were excited to celebrate National Curry week. Our amazing kitchen team created some delicious curry for all our residents to try, and it went down a storm!

Here at Strachan House we love to try different foods from all over the world, and we’re lucky because next week we have International food week!

Celebration of talent!!

Here at Strachan House we have the most wonderfully talented residents and we love to share in their achievements! Elizabeth learned to play the violin when she was in her 40s she then became a Suzuki violin instructor (amazing right?!). Today 2 of Elizabeth’s students the exceptionally talented Reuben and Adam visited to give us a little concert on the balcony!

Residents enjoyed a peaceful afternoon cruising along the canal, surrounded by beautiful views and even better company.

Afternoon tea on board brought plenty of smiles, laughter, and cherished moments!

Horsing around

This week the beautiful Willow and Sparkle came to visit Strachan House, and we had the most wonderful day! Our residents love animals and at our monthly meetings have asked for more animal-based activities. In all honesty, we couldn’t wait to oblige!

Huge thank you to Happy Hoofbeats Theraponies LTD for bringing these wonderful girls and sharing their love with us all
Award winning team!

Award winning team!

This week at Strachan House has been a very good week! Staff members at Strachan house were honoured to be nominated for awards at the Great British Care Awards. Staff, residents and families nominated this wonderful bunch of staff for different awards, and we are over the moon to announce that Marta, our exceptional Care Practitioner, won the Dignity in Care Award!

Marta has won the Regional title and will be attending the National Awards in February! Marta was overwhelmed and shocked but we all knew that this award was so very well deserved!

Creativity is contagious- pass it on!

Here at Strachan House we absolutely love art! We love making art, and we love visiting art galleries, and luckily we’re blessed with many! Today, our new residents, Ray and Kay, took a trip with Isabella and the activities team to the Modern One gallery, which we were blessed to have on our doorstep!

We are amping up our indoor trips with a weekly trip planned as well as ad hoc and make a wish trips! If you have any ideas do reach out and let us know!

Residents enjoyed a trip to the National Museum of Scotland! From fascinating exhibitions to beautiful historical displays, there was so much to see, explore, and talk about.

It sparked lots of lovely memories and meaningful conversations!

Cheese & Wine evening

Cheese & Wine evening

At Strachan House we are all HUGE fans of cheese and wine! Many of our residents would choose a cheeseboard over a dessert, controversial I know! So this week we decided to host a cheese and wine evening inviting people from our local community to join us for fancy cheese, fancy wine and even fancier conversation!

We all had the best time, and it’s safe to say we put the world to rights!  What’s your after dinner preference? Cheeseboard or dessert? Don’t be shy!

Why Knot!

Why Knot!

Our residents enjoyed a jaunt out to South Queensferry to sample the delights of the Thirty Knots. Many of our residents love the views at south queensferry and with the weather getting breezier it’s always nice to enjoy those views with a pint in a nice warm pub!

It was double the celebrations as Alex celebrated his birthday! All at Strachan want to wish Alex the happiest of birthdays we hope you enjoyed your trip out and your cake

Hello Petal

Our ladies enjoyed a fun and fancy flower arranging session! This is one of our favourite activities, as not only is it a joy to do, but we get to see the delights for days afterwards!

The wonderful flower arrangements are loved by everyone, and it’s so good to see the talented ladies work around the home.

Wine and cheese delight!

Wine and cheese delight!

What a fantastic afternoon we had at Strachan’s Wine and Cheese Night!

Residents enjoyed a relaxed and sunny day tasting wines from around the world, with favourites including a bold French red and a sweet Argentinian white wine!

It's beer day!

It's beer day!

There’s no better way to toast the end of the week than with a cold, refreshing pint.

Whether you're a lager lover, an IPA enthusiast, or just here for the good vibes, we’re raising our glasses to you. Happy National Beer Day!
