Activities at Strachan House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Strachan House Care Home
Virtual event with Dr Tim Howard
Residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Dr Tim Howard, 4th generation GP, whose whole life has been about patient care, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his novel ‘Let’s Kill All The Lawyers’.
The novel is a medical fiction thriller that explores the impact of life and death events, mistakes and forgiveness, and the impact of law and justice on the day- to-day lives of ordinary people doing their best in difficult circumstances.
Residents had the chance to ask their own questions once the discussion was over and a great time was had by all.
Afternoon trip to Cramond
We had a great afternoon out to Cramond yesterday where we all enjoyed an ice cream and a mooch about!
Virtual singing session
Our home had a fantastic time with vocal coach Mark De-Lisser as he led an amazing virtual singing session for our residents to enjoy.
Our residents were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees.
There were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
Visit from a furry friend!
We were delighted for the return of the wonderful Jocelyn who brought Finn our new #therapet visitor.
Finn was loved by all who met him, and Jocelyn was lucky to get back out without us managing to keep him for good.
Did you know that for some years now it has been recognised, more and more, that pets are good for us! Indeed, it has been scientifically proven that the mere action of stroking a dog, or cat, slows down the heartbeat, reduces blood pressure, and makes someone who has already suffered a heart attack much less likely to have another.
Cruising up the canal
Some of our residents enjoyed a day's cruising up the canal from Ratho. It was perfect weather and perfect company.
Big thankyou to The Seagull Trust for all their kindness and for making it such a special day.
Royal Ascot at Strachan House
What a day at Strachan House. In conjunction with Royal Ascot week we ran our own race with each unit entering their own race horse into the derby.
It was pandemonium all round. Our horses Tap Dance Tango, Giddyup Galileo and Magic Marvin raced around a course collecting their lost shoes whilst being cheered on by their owners.
Congratulations goes to Memory Lane and their horse Magic Marvin crossing the finish post first.
Everyone received trophies and medals and of course it wouldn't be a race without a winners enclosure. Residents enjoyed their triumph with delicious food prepared by our chef and a selection of wines to celebrate a great day at the races.
Big thanks goes to all the team at Strachan House for making it an amazing day for our residents
