Activities at Strachan House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Strachan House Care Home

A Tasty Surprise From Local Take Away

Strachan House received a welcome surprise this week. The care team who were on shift working to support the home and their residents were overjoyed when Darin’s Take Away from Boswall Parkway in Pilton turned up bearing gifts in the form of pizzas and juice, from a safe distance of course!

During the current climate and this difficult time, our team here at Strachan House are working harder than ever to ensure our resident’s spirits are kept high. For Darin’s Takeaway to recognise this dedication during these trying times and for them to show their gratitude with an act of kindness like this goes a long way. When you need a wee pick me up, what’s better than a delicious slice of Pizza!? We’re so tremendously grateful to Darin’s for helping keep smiles on the faces of our team as they carry on supporting our home. Thank you.

Bird Box Decorations

Arts and crafts are a firm favourite here at Strachan House and to bring in some sunshine and cheer, along with some little feathered friends, our residents have been enjoying decorating bird boxes. They’re sure to add a splash of colour and fun to our beautiful gardens and hopefully tempt in some different types of birds for us to watch. Our gardener Ian is always looking for ways to bring in more species for our entertainment so we hope these are a help.

Afternoon Tea with friends

During these difficult times, our Head Chef and kitchen team ensure our spirits are kept high with delicious food and tasty treats. At the moment, we’re unable to enjoy our usual coffee mornings with the community but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy afternoon tea and a natter together, accompanied by a scone or two!

Afternoon Coffee Catch Ups

At Strachan House it’s lovely that we have so many nice places to visit nearby. This time we had a trip out to Craigleith for some tasty bites and a delicious coffee at Costa. It's a great way to have a natter and catch up together.

Ross celebrates 20-years’ service at Strachan House

Ross Learmont, now carer started at Barchester in 2000 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years in a variety of roles from chef, housekeeping and now carer.

Eileen Crawford,  General Manager said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 20 years of loyal service with Ross. He has demonstrated his dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Strachan House when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with Ross!”

Happiness comes with a spoon!

Our residents love a wee jaunt out for lunch, this time we dug in to delights at our local Toby Carvery and indulged in some ice cream for dessert.
