Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home

Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.

Alison Wareing

Activities Assistant

Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.

I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals.  After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication.  The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.

Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home

Festival of Trees

We are celebrating Christmas in style at Sutton Grange by having our very own Festival of Trees. Our residents' loved ones have kindly donated the Christmas trees and decorations, which everyone has thoroughly enjoyed getting involved with.

As you can see, the trees look wonderful both decorated and lit up both in daylight and the evening.

Cake competition entry

Throughout December, Residents have been busy counting down to Christmas with their busy life enrichment programme filled with fun-filled festive activities.

We have been busy making festive decorations to display around our home and making our Christmas cakes, starting them early so we could ‘feed’ them with brandy or sherry and leaving plenty of time for them to mature before decorating and entering into Barchester’s annual Christmas cake competition.

As we made our cakes, it was lovely to hear everyone sharing their memories of Christmases past, the traditions they enjoyed and what Christmas has meant to them.

Christmas meal from Waitrose

Recently we were gifted from Waitrose all the ingredients to make our residents a wonderful Christmas lunch.  Their kindness brought lots of joy to our residents and as you can see the food went down really well. The residents commented on what a wonderful time they all had, enjoying pulling the crackers and wearing Christmas hats.

,

Residents enjoy a pamper

The residents enjoyed a morning of being pampered. One of our carers Nikki styled the residents hair and as you can see did a fabulous job.

The residents are very pleased with the result. The ladies also had their nails filed and painted to match their new look. One of the ladies said she felt like a new woman.

,

Christmas card crafts

The residents of Sutton Grange enjoyed making some cards as part of their arts and crafts group which they plan to send to children from the local school, to their families and friends in the lead up to the festive period. As they showed their creative sides the sound of Christmas carols could be heard spreading a little festive cheer.

Remembrance Sunday

We have been remembering those who fought and lost their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today.

The residents watched an event from Westminster Abbey marking the 100th anniversary of the burial of the unknown warrior.

We also had a 2 minute silence for all the brave souls who fought in the war.  Everyone really enjoyed the tv programme, we also had a discussion about remembrance day whilst we had tea, coffee and biscuits.
