What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"Three weeks ago our brother, who has Alzheimer’s disease, moved into Sutton Grange care home. When viewing Sutton Grange, we were impressed with the clean and modern facilities, beautiful gardens and kind and knowledgeable staff. Over the past three weeks, we have been really impressed with Sutton Grange. It is a warm, welcoming home with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The staff that we have met have been caring, helpful, supportive and approachable. They have gone above and beyond to support our brother’s individual and medical needs during this time. The activity coordinators have provided a wonderful programme of entertainment for him. They have really supported our brother and they have regularly updated us with news, photographs, Facetime calls and garden visits. We would like to thank Sutton Grange for the care, help and support that they have given us all so far and also for the wonderful communication which has really helped us during this very difficult period."

"My Aunty has been in Sutton Grange a year in February. Since then she has come on in leaps and bounds with the help of all the staff and other residents. She has made friends with a number of residents and loves the different range of activities on offer which, with the encouragement from the staff, helps her to engage. The food is always lovely and there is a good choice on offer for the residents. Thanks to all the staff at Sutton Grange for helping my Aunty come back from a very dark time in her life and start enjoying her life more in the autumn of her years."

"I have no hesitation whats so ever in recommending Sutton Grange Care Home to anyone thinking of placing relatives there. My mother is currently a full-time resident and has been for nearly two years, and I could not ask for anything more from ALL the staff, they are a dedicated team and have the residents best interests at heart, the care and attention they pay the residents is second to none, even in these uncertain times of the Covid pandemic they have remained focused on the job they have to do and keeping the residents safe. Earlier this year I lost my father who had Dementia & Alzheimers, his care was unbelievable, he had been a resident in Sutton Grange for just over four years, so anyone considering residential care please consider Sutton Grange Care Home, you will not be disappointed."

"My Dad is a resident at Sutton Grange. He has many needs which are met so very well by all the staff who care for him. I live 4 hours drive away and I can't visit as often as I would like, but I feel confident that my Dad is being looked after really well. If he has to be in residential care, and he does, I couldn't imagine a better place for him to live. My thanks go to everyone involved in my Dad's care."

"We moved my elderly father into Sutton Grange in August 2020 between lockdowns as he needed 24-hour nursing care. Sutton Grange collected him and the few belongings he was taking with him in the wheelchair adapted minibus. We were worried about his loss of home and independence but we needn’t have worried. It was absolutely the right thing to do. He has adapted well and we now have peace of mind that he has the care he needs and is in the right place. We were able to ensure he had his daily paper and his own Sky tv and phone, all of which are his main source of entertainment. The food is excellent and there is an entertainment programme provided. During lockdowns, the home has set up zoom calls and distanced meetings very efficiently. The nursing staff cope well with his needs and the sister in charge is always happy to ring you back if you need clarification or to discuss concerns. The nursing manager is pleasant and helpful."

"The manager is a very compassionate, knowledgeable, experienced nurse manager. He leads and develops the whole caring team. The qualified nurses are really experienced and the carers worked so hard to help my father settle in. He moved from Sussex to Lancashire. I cannot recommend this care home highly enough the hygiene standards, the care from all staff including Housekeeping and Catering was outstanding. My father was profoundly deaf and the activities coordinator was an expert with hearing aids. I have many happy memories of visiting my dad he was always happy and settled. He really loved the food too! I am so pleased I choose Sutton Grange, part of the Barchester group. They have very high standards of care, Thank you to all the staff, for helping and supporting me too!"

"My mother was a resident of Sutton Grange for approx 2 years until her death. Suffering from Alzheimer's she could be uncooperative and challenging. The staff were extremely sympathetic to her condition and very caring. During the recent lockdown when we were unable to visit I was confident that she was well cared for within the constraints imposed by the virus. In her last days, the staff were extremely caring and made sure that the family were kept informed and we felt she was treated with dignity right up to the end."

"We are so relieved to have found Sutton Grange for our wonderful Dad who suffers with advanced Alzheimer's. The decision to move Dad into a home was immeasurably hard although ultimately taken out of our hands following a stay in hospital in August. As soon as we met the Manager and Deputy Manager and saw Sutton Grange we could feel that there was something very different and special about the place and our instinct has proved absolutely right. Every member of the team shows care, empathy, patience and a huge warmth for Dad. He is looked after gently, with dignity and a smile - he is very much treated as a person (just one who happens to have lots of needs) rather than a problem. Also, the empathy that has been shown to us on Dad's "not so good" days when we have been upset has been incredible - there is always time to make a cup of tea and ensure we are OK. Dad's room looks homely and warm which is such a comfort and it is never too much trouble to put another photo at mum's request!"

"My mother moved into the care home in October 2015. Previously she lived alone before a spell in hospital. She was diagnosed with dementia and it was deemed unsafe for her to return home. I felt awful about taking her there. In hindsight, it was the best thing I ever did. Her quality of life improved massively! The environment, facilities, and staff were fantastic. I cannot thank the staff enough."

"I have nothing but pure gratitude and admiration for the staff at Sutton Grange and I personally can't thank everyone enough for the care and dedication in looking after my Mum and all the residents during the lockdown. Not being able to visit my Mum, she is now forgetting who I am, but its helping enormously having video chats, for me anyway, with the guilt and sadness I feel. Thank you to the activities coordinator for organising this."

"Not having been to visit my friend in Sutton Grange home before, I was very impressed by the welcome I received, the cleanliness of the whole home, the loving care of the staff towards the residents and the hard work of the cleaner to keep everything clean. The meals provided looked delicious (I had two sandwiches which were delicious) and well presented. Well done to the chef and kitchen staff."

"I have been visiting Sutton Grange care home for almost 12 months on a weekly basis. On every visit, I have been welcomed and attended to in a very professional warm and friendly way. The Manager and staff are outstanding. Attentive to all residents, showing extreme kindness and understanding to all their individual needs, hence the residents are very happy and thrive in this lovely atmosphere."

"We would wholeheartedly recommend Sutton Grange Care Home. Mum received the highest quality personalised care throughout her stay, which was also extended to family members when visiting. The whole team, from Manager, Deputy Manager, Nurses and Carers took the important time to get to know our Mum, her life story, her likes and dislikes and we felt confident her wishes were made possible for her. Sutton Grange has amazing facilities, beautiful, spacious rooms, lounge/dining areas, gardens and garden patio that we enjoyed as a family on many different occasions. There was always something being celebrated to enhance the lives of residents and their families, we particularly enjoyed the gardens and a Mother's Day family party in the home. The chef's shortbread biscuits are now a thing of legend in our family. At end of life, Mum and family were wrapped in sensitive, patient loving care and we are deeply grateful for this special time we were enabled to have with her. Thank you."

"My husband was transferred to Sutton Grange Care Home in October after 6 months in the hospital because of his dementia. He settled in well straight away and was much happier than he had been in the hospital. Over the last 3 months, his physical health has improved and he is much calmer and more lucid than previously. He has regained the weight that he had lost in the hospital and joins in with organised activities of which there are many. I am so thankful for the care he receives from all the staff. They are all compassionate and respectful and I have nothing but the highest praise for them and the management."

"We spent a lot of time looking for a nursing home for my husband, who has Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, and it just felt right in Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home. We visited another Barchester home which was also great but the wrong level for us. Sutton Grange is purpose-built so feels really spacious, both in the communal areas and in the private areas. The rooms are en suite and a really good size. The staff are brilliant, so friendly and caring, both with the family and with the residents, and are really responsive. The food seems to be lovely, they serve it around dining tables with others and staff members at the tables. My husband is eating better than for years. The activities are numerous and varied and my husband seems to take part, I have photos of him singing, dancing, making mince pies. My only reservation is the same as I hear about every home and that's clothing, he is often in someone else's clothes but as the care is so fabulous, I'm just getting used to the wrong clothes."

"After an illness, Dad was left in a frail state and was happy to go into residential care. From the start, staff were caring and thoughtful, cheerful and punctilious in looking after Dad. Dad's room is very pleasant and sunny. Cleanliness is very good, as is the decor. The dining room, food, table layout are of hotel standard. Dad is very complimentary about the food, staff... all of it. The unit is small (twenty residents) which allows individual care. This is, by far, the best home I visited and is excellent value."

"My parents recently stayed for a week's respite at Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home. My father struggles with mobility and my mother has dementia. The staff were wonderful and provided the care my parents needed. The care home is well-maintained and has a lovely garden. I would definitely recommend Sutton Grange to anyone needing support and care in their later years."

"My dad was cared for at Sutton Grange in the last few weeks of his life. He really loved the gardens and the wonderful outlook from his room. He particularly enjoyed sitting out in the garden on the day the alpacas came to visit. All the staff at Sutton Grange are lovely, and Dad was really appreciative of the care and kindness he received from everyone who looked after him. Family and friends are always made to feel very welcome, the atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the catering is very good. We all enjoyed visiting Dad at Sutton Grange and would like to thank everyone for making Dad feel so safe, comfortable and well cared for. You all do an amazing job!"

"In March 2024, my mum, who has dementia, will have been living at Sutton Grange for four years. Since then, her condition has, of course, progressed, and the nature of the care provided has evolved as appropriate. I remain very impressed at the quality of the care and the regular reviews when I am able to discuss my mum's health, needs and care plan. The staff are absolutely lovely, every time I visit. Thanks to everyone at Sutton Grange for everything you do."

"Both my parents are being cared for at Sutton Grange in different areas because their needs differ. Overall we as a family are delighted with their care and can see that they both have settled well and are benefiting from the care and attention given to them. Staff are always warm and welcoming. We feel that communication could be improved between senior carers and family and that there seems to be a lack of continuity of carer at times. Catering is good, but the menu seems repetitive and there is a lack of fresh fruit available. Staff numbers I understand make it difficult to help residents who are bed-bound eat, but time with them at meal times means a lot and helps with mood and wellbeing. We would like to thank all staff and understand some of the challenges they face on a daily basis. Seasons greetings to everyone."

"My father was a resident at Sutton Grange Care Home for just over six months, from March 2023 to his death in September 2023. He enjoyed the sunny aspect of the home, the garden, the resident dog, the food and all the activities which seemed, to me, to happen almost daily, from themed tea parties to quizzes to mini-lectures. Most of all, he was extremely happy with the staff who looked after him with care and respect. They made the last few months of his life much more bearable, and in particular, he was appreciative of one member of staff, the activities coordinator and the handyman. We felt welcome to visit at any time and enjoyed a good chat with the staff and a cup of tea. The administration and paying his fees was very straightforward. We are deeply grateful to everyone there for what they did for him and know that it made a difference in his final months."

"The recent move to Sutton Grange has been a fantastic experience for my elderly dad who has dementia. Management and staff all worked together to quickly settle him in and make him feel secure and valued. Dad is sociable by nature and despite his Dementia, all the staff have taken the time and trouble to get to know his ways and make him feel part of the family. Dad has responded so well to the caring, relaxed and inclusive environment. There is a genuine warmth about the place. The facilities are lovely but it is the staff who make Sutton Grange such an oasis. Well Done and a big thank you from all the family."

"I didn't want to put my husband in a care home, but after caring for him for three years with dementia I was ready for a rest. l tried two care homes but all he wanted was to come home, in fact, he managed to get out of the first one and was running into the road. l only wanted two weeks rest so l tried another one and after two days he fell and broke his hip, after his time in hospital. l found Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home, what a difference! He settled very quickly and didn't even ask to come home. It was like going into a hotel, the staff couldn't do enough for us. l can recommend this care home to anyone. Thank you to all the staff and the management for their care and attention to my husband."

"I consider Sutton Grange to be very well led by an excellent role model the general manager. The team of managers, nursing personnel, carers, chefs, administrators, housekeeping and activity team are all very professional and fully engaged in their roles and duties. My mother stayed only for a short time at the end of her life and she was very well nursed and cared for considering numerous challenging conditions. A nursing and care home is very well recommended."

"I have been a resident at this home since January 2015. During that time I have settled down, as well as can be expected and have been cared for in a sympathetic and professional manner. In general, the menu and food quality have been good and whilst I cannot say it is just like home, nevertheless I do not think that under the circumstances I could not have chosen a better situation. However, for some time, there is one area which has been causing me concern and that is in the position of general manager. Since my arrival, which is less than 2 years ago, we have had 2 so called permanent managers and at least 4 to 5 temporary ones, a situation I would suggest, that does not ensure the consistent and efficient running of the home. I am somewhat surprised therefore that a large and experienced company would allow this situation to develop, and in particular, at a home which has only recently been opened. As a senior manager in industry for many years, I am well aware of the importance of having an experienced manager in charge, either of a department or a company. Particularly for the staff involved who require a stable and worry-free environment in which to work. At a rough guess, I would suggest that over the past year at least 30% to 40% of the management work has been carried out by the present under management staff who, in my opinion, have coped with a difficult situation in an efficient manner, and who in my opinion, should be considered if a further vacancy arises here. I must apologise for taking up your time with this "problem" but feel that for my own peace of mind, at least, it was important that one resident at this home should make you aware of his feelings in this matter."

"I have been more than pleased with the dementia unit at Sutton Grange called "Blossom Walk". The care staff are very good. The facilities for entertaining residents not so good. "Sutton Grange is in my opinion an excellent care home, the staff are dedicated and very caring, the rooms and the general layout provide a very comfortable, secure and clean environment for both residents and visiting family members. The best endorsement I can provide is from my Father who is a current resident, after a difficult settling period he has now with the help of the staff, settled in beyond our expectations. He maintains that he 'loves it here' and constantly praises the quality of the food, the staff and his room."

"My Grandmother was moved into Sutton Grange late last year. Upon my first visit I was overjoyed with the facilities and staff. I wanted to take the time to review the home as all members of the team are always happy and made visits enjoyable and their hard work deserves recognition. From reception/office - kitchen staff and all the wonderful carers in between every one at SG ensures residents are cared for to the highest standards, while maintaining an upbeat and pleasant living environment, something that due to their workload most carers are unable to maintain. I am particularly impressed with the monthly coffee mornings that are held for residents and their family to attend, the sing songs in particular I know my nana enjoys thoroughly! (and the home made cakes are delicious!) the facilities and general feel of the place differs dramatically from other care homes. There is no sense of it being a 'care home' or somewhere for 'old people' - its in fact more like a 5* hotel, with stunning decor and a homely feel. With interactive objects all around her attention is always taken by bright and familiar objects as opposed to being sat in front of a tv all day - something I have seen happen in the past. Recently I have moved overseas. In an attempt to help me remain in contact with her the staff at SG have kindly been taking time to live Skype me on days such as Christmas so that I had the chance to well wish my nan. I am so overwhelmed at the kindness of this act that I just had to take to carehome.co.uk and ensure that Sutton Grange received (Another) 'EXCELLENT' review.I have no problem recommending this beautiful home and its dedicated and wonderful staff. I am extremely happy with the level of care my nana is receiving and am simply thrilled she has been fortunate enough to become a resident at Sutton Grange. Thank you to all of the staff for their continual hard work and first class caring of someone who is very important to me. Kelly B. Australia"

"I take a great deal of comfort from knowing that my Mother is cared for by professional but kind staff, I am aware that they make every effort to offer person centred care, whilst still maintaining her dignity and individuality. My Mother has been cared for in a few homes and this is by far the best place, firstly for standard of care and secondly for the warm and homely environment. I feel a sense of comfort when I visit Sutton Grange, just like when I visited my Mother, before she became my "different" Mother, due to the Alzheimer's. Thank you to all those wonderful people at Sutton Grange , who have given my Mother a better quality of life and for putting my heart at ease ??"

"I can't praise the staff at Sutton Grange enough. They are all kind, caring and make time for individual residents and their families with a genuine desire to help. Caring for the elderly is an extremely demanding job and all of the staff, without exception, take a very professional approach to their jobs, regardless of the role. I am sure there will be days when they find things difficult to cope with but they always have a smile and a word of greeting for residents and visitors alike. The home is clean, comfortable and welcoming. My father is cared for in a manner befitting his needs and as a result his health has improved. I would like to thank everyone for what they do for him."
