Activities at Tandridge Heights Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our qualified and dedicated activities staff plan and implement all activities within the home. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect our residents interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can. We try to keep our residents active and happy.

Our activities include trips to garden centres, pubs, the cinema or the local theatre. We have many fun games like carpet bowls, Play Your Cards Right or armchair exercises. There are many musical events, singalongs, garden parties and tea parties for everyone to enjoy as well!

Activities Coordinator

I started at Tandridge Heights in 2020. Previous to this, I have been working as a carer sine 2010, which has helped me to understand the needs, wants and the individuality of all of our residents.

My main responsibility is provide a varied and engaging activities schedule every day for our residents; this helps to keep them involved in social and uplifting activities. We love to have parties to celebrate birthdays, national days and special occasions.

Dementia Disco

On Tuesday 20th May, staff and residents at Tandridge Heights care home in Oxted dusted off their dancing shoes for the launch of their new Dementia Disco initiative.

Knowing how much their residents love to dance, the activities team at Tandridge Heights care home came up with the genius idea of a dementia-friendly disco.  The team invited along members of the local community and friends of the home to the first official dementia-friendly disco, which went down an absolute storm.

A family member added: “We enjoyed the Dementia Disco so much, and we are really looking forward to the next one! Everyone had an amazing time, and it was a wonderful and rare opportunity to turn back the clock and have some fun with our loved ones!”

Here at Tandridge Heights we are lucky enough to have team members from all over the world.
For World Culture Day, team members dressed in beautiful traditional clothing and prepared delicious dishes from their home countries, proudly sharing their dishes, traditional music, dances and talking about their cultures and traditions with other team members and residents.

It really was a great afternoon with lots of the team getting involved and having a lovely time.

VE Day Celebrations

Residents, staff, family and friends marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day in style by throwing a 1940s afternoon party to remember.  The home was decorated in red, white and blue and residents and staff dressed up in their 1940s-inspired glad rags and enjoyed a delicious BBQ and an afternoon of music and dancing by the D-Day Dollies.

Head chef Mel whipped up a delicious selection of burgers, hotdogs, potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salads and puddings. Enid, a resident of Tandridge Heights, said: “I remember all the family gathering around the radio to listen to Churchill’s speech telling us the war was over. It still gives me goosebumps now, such an important date.  It was wonderful to reminisce and to celebrate with all the staff and residents here. We’ve all had such fun and lots of cake!”

Easter Eggstravaganza

Easter was in full swing at Tandridge Heights with our Easter Bunny hunt. Residents were joined by their loved ones for a fun-filled afternoon. There was the traditional bunny hunt where the children had to find and name all the hidden bunnies to collect their prize at the end.

Colouring and games were plentiful and residents got stuck in helping their great-grandchildren. Resident Ron said, ‘It is great fun being able to be with the little ones and seeing them enjoy themselves. I have had a great time’.

We were then surprised by the Easter Bunny himself. He hopped around meeting all the children and staff, creating joy and laughter wherever he went.
