Activities at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at The Cedars Bourne Care Home
Macmillan Coffee Morning and Petting Party
Staff and residents at The Cedars Care Home in Bourne held a charity Coffee Morning and Harvest Festival on 30th September to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Having a coffee morning is the perfect chance to catch up over a cuppa and a slice of something delicious for a great cause. The money raised helps everyone with cancer to live life as fully as they can. Residents enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives, and members of the local community. Home Chef Gee Jowett had baked lots of lovely cakes and biscuits to enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee, before trying their luck at the tombola and name the teddy game. After we had eaten our fill residents and guests enjoyed a visit from Michelle’s Petting Party. We were able to spend time with beautiful and affectionate animals, which included a cat, dog, guinea pig, rabbit and hen.
The Cedars’ coffee morning was a big success - they managed to raise just over £208 for Macmillan Cancer Support, and, most importantly, everyone had a great time doing it! Rebecca Aldred, Senior General Manager at The Cedars Care Home, said: “Our Macmillan coffee morning has been a huge amount of fun, everyone at the home is always keen to support this fantastic charity in any way we can. We are very glad to be able to do our bit to raise further awareness for MacMillan and money for the charity.” Edna Riley, a resident at the home, really enjoyed spending time with the animals. She held them all and did not want to give them back! She said ‘they are lovely and the cakes are wonderful too’.
Live performance by Mark Bishop to four generations
Residents and guests at The Cedars care home in Bourne enjoyed an afternoon of music with a live Acoustic performance that took place at the home. Local musician and vocalist Mark Bishop performed a selection of hits including songs by George Ezra, Elvis Presley, Amy Whinehouse and The Beatles in our beautiful Garden Lounge.
Residents joined in with the singing as Mark performed his finale song, which was a very special request from resident Doreen’s grandson Ethan (4), who very politely asked if he would sing Postman Pat! Residents and their guests enjoyed a glass of bubbly while listening to the music.
Resident Ron Priest (100) described the music as brilliant; and enjoyed spending time with the four generations of residents and their families that came together to enjoy the incredible music.
Trip to Costa for Edna’s Birthday
Today we celebrated Edna's birthday in style! Some of our residents took Edna to Costa Coffee in Bourne for a drink and to receive her gifts. This wonderful outing was enjoyed by all! An extra special thanks to barista Jamie, for making our residents feel so welcome; and for his exceptional customer service.
The National Period of Mourning
In honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we took the time to commemorate her and pay our tributes to the Royal Family.
In loving memory of the Queen, we worked hard to create our own Memorial Area with candles and photos of the Queen, which staff, residents, families and friends visited throughout this period of national mourning. We collected newspaper clippings and magazines celebrating the life of our beloved Monarch and created our own book of condolences, which was signed by residents, staff and families alike. On the day of the funeral, we gathered to watch and mourn together, before enjoying a special afternoon tea in memory of Her Majesty.
As a home we decided to plant a Queen Elizabeth Rose in memorial on the day of the funeral. This rose will be lovingly tended in memory of the queen; and will be joined by another on the day of the King's coronation.
We were honoured to be given the opportunity to write in the official Book Of Condolences for Lincolnshire, which will be sent to Buckingham Palace. Over forty staff and residents wrote messages and shared their own memories of the Queen. Several of our residents have met the Queen during their lives. Mary Manson, who has attended three garden parties at the Palace, said' she was a lovely lady. So kind.' Ronald Priest, who served in the Royal Air Force, described her as 'a wonderful lady, surprisingly short of stature'.
