Activities at Tyspane Care Home

Pride is celebrated in the month of June, as that was the month when the Stonewall riots took place. The Stonewall riots were important protests that took place in 1969 in the US, that changed gay rights for a lot of people in America and around the world.

Pride is a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship, to show how far LGBTQ+ rights have come, and how in some places there's still work to be done. LGBT+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. The + is an inclusive symbol to mean 'and others' to include people of all identities.

With this in mind, Tyspane Care Home gathered today to celebrate and show support for Pride in the Community Garden. The sun shone brightly as residents, families, friends and staff sang and danced to Terry Bond singing live old and new classics. The afternoon was even more special thanks to Tyspane Care Home Baking Club who prepared a batch of freshly made cakes and treats.

David (Resident) and his daughter Louise stated, “We remember last years celebrations, the sun was shining then, time definitely flies when you’re having fun.”

So, remember if you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride and never quit, you’ll be a winner.

Tyspane Care Home residents, friends, families and staff were thrilled to be visited by Dogs Trust Ilfracombe, Stan (Supporter Relations Officer), Jack (Canine Handler) and Glen (The Dog). The Dogs Trust Ilfracombe is a 40-dog kennel centre, set in a beautiful wooded valley near to the long, sandy beaches of North Devon.

Stan and Jack delivered a professional, informative and fun presentation to residents, families, friends and staff. The presentation included videos, case studies and a question-and-answer session. Stan and Jack emphasised that the Dogs Trust has been working since 1891, to provide a better future for dogs and the people who love them. He stated that for every dog, for every owner, they would be by their side through thick and thin.

Patrick (resident and dog owner) stated, “I used to be a dog handler, and know how much support, love and care dogs need.”

Patricia replied, “I have really enjoyed this morning, the visit was very special as I used to donate blankets to the Dogs Trust.”

Bobbie asked, “Can I take Glen home?”

Tyspane Care Home would like to thank Dogs Trust Ilfracombe especially Stan, Jack and Glen for a wonderful morning and look forward to seeing you soon.

Tyspane Care Home was delighted to welcome David and Friends this afternoon. David is a wonderful supporter of Tyspane Care Home, he regularly performs on a voluntary basis at Tyspane Care Home and is dedicated to delivering a star performance for residents, families and friends throughout the year. David and Friends certainly make a positive impact at Tyspane Care

Home as well as the local community.

David commented, “Another cracking afternoon at Tyspane Care Home here in Braunton, North Devon. Great fun with an appreciative and involved audience. The staff work hard to ensure residents are fully involved in activities.”

Today, the lounge was buzzing with residents, friends and families who joined in with the singing, everyone was amazed if not a little starstruck by the live performances.

Today, residents, families, friends and staff were visited by North Devon Pony Parties as part of surprise celebration for Brian.  Brian is a true animal lover as he is a naturally caring person. He enjoyed feeding, grooming and being beside the gentle and friendly ponies whilst also benefiting from being outside in the blazing sunshine.

The ponies grazed on fresh meadow grass within the beautiful Tyspane Care Home gardens.  North Devon Pony Parties have over thirty years of experience of owning and working with horses and ponies and talked to all the residents, families, friends and staff at Tyspane Care Home, it was a wonderful morning enjoyed by all.

Brian when asked how he felt gave a massive thumbs up. He never stopped smiling.

Residents and staff at Tyspane Care Home in Braunton put the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’ with a Car Wash and Raffle to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.

Aime Bown, General Manager at Tyspane Care Home said: “We love to fundraise for charities throughout the year. Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is a great cause that helps many people in need and is also a cause very close to the hearts of all our staff and residents, so we feel really proud to have been able to raise this money. Thank you to everyone who donated!”

Today, Tyspane Care Home came together as one big family to support our residents to stay healthy and fit. The morning started with Tyspane Care Home Physiotherapists, Babs, George and Katie working alongside Jan Cooke (Physiotherapist Technician at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust) supporting residents to lower their risk of falls and keep moving by participating in regular exercise including balance exercises.  Good balance is important for helping our residents retain mobility as they age.

Babs commented, “I feel very lucky to have had the opportunities to work in an incredible profession that has allowed me to work with such wonderful people.”

Jan replied,” Today, I feel privilege to be at Tyspane Care Home, it has been inspirational to watch residents use the balance equipment and overcome emotional barriers, thank you Tyspane, I will be back.”

Tony (resident), stated. “I am so happy to be back up on my feet, it feels amazing.”

Following a healthy snack and smoothie residents, family, friends and staff listened to an informative talk and demonstration by Braunton Mobility. Braunton Mobility are a local company who stock and supply a range of high-quality equipment.  Their aim is to keep people moving and stay independent.

Molly,” I surprised myself, I didn’t think I would be able to use a motorised wheelchair, I moved around the home so quickly and smoothly. I didn’t crash!”

After lunch, residents, families and friends were entertained by Tyspane Care Home staff with a series of light hearted dance routines to get everyone moving. Staff worked together to support the shared goal and vision of keeping residents fit and healthy whilst nurturing wellbeing.
