Activities at Vecta House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Celebrating life at Vecta House Care Home

Life is like a box of chocolates, and today at Vecta House, it was absolutely delicious!

Life is like a box of chocolates, and today at Vecta House, it was absolutely delicious!

Our dining room was buzzing with excitement as we welcomed Kelly, the owner of the local business Isle of Chocolate, for a truly decadent tasting experience. She treated us to a stunning selection of her homemade creations, and we took our time savouring every single bite.

We turned the tasting into a fun sensory game, trying one chocolate at a time and putting our palates to the test. Our residents were expert tasters, identifying a mouth-watering array of flavours including zesty orange, refreshing mint, sweet raspberry, and crunchy hazelnut. We even indulged in some more unique treats like lemon meringue and silky caramel! To make the afternoon even more cosy, we also had special hot chocolate spoons, which we swirled into warm milk to create the most rich and velvety hot chocolate.

To keep the theme going, we dived into a lively chocolate quiz and shared fond memories of our favourite treats from years gone by. One fun fact we discovered is that white chocolate isn't technically chocolate at all, because it doesn't contain cocoa solids or cocoa liquor.

It was a wonderful afternoon filled with laughter, sweet treats, and great company. A huge thank you to Kelly for visiting us and making our day so much sweeter!

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day

What a wonderful day we’ve had here at Vecta House!

We started our morning with a breath of fresh air as our residents headed out on a minibus outing to Forest View Nursery. It was such a treat to wander through the aisles of vibrant, bright flowers, giving us all a beautiful reminder that spring is just around the corner. To top off the trip, everyone tucked into some delicious slices of cake paired with refreshing milkshakes.

The excitement didn’t stop there, as our afternoon was filled with music and rhythm. We were joined by the talented Si Wheeler for his "Let There Be Love" show, which was the perfect way to get us all in the mood for the upcoming Valentine’s Day. The room was alive with energy as everyone spent the afternoon dancing, singing along to their favourite hits, and sharing plenty of laughs.

It’s been a day full of smiles and great company!

And what a lovely Valentine's Day we had! There was so much love in the air today as our residents, families, and staff gathered together for a truly heart-warming Valentine’s Day celebration. The home was filled with smiles and great conversation as everyone enjoyed a delicious, specially prepared Valentine’s meal.

The afternoon was made even more magical by the beautiful sounds of the harp, performed by the talented Merylenna from Independent Arts. Her music provided the perfect, peaceful soundtrack for our residents and their loved ones to share this special day together.

A huge thank you to Merylenna and our wonderful team for making today so memorable. We hope your day is just as full of love as ours has been!

Burns Night Celebrations at Vecta House!

Burns Night Celebrations at Vecta House!

Scottish music filled the air today as we gathered to celebrate the life of Robert Burns. Our dining rooms looked fantastic, decked out in traditional tartan and banners featuring the Bard's famous poetry.

Before lunch, our residents enjoyed a lively performance of Scottish dancing from our nurse, Mhairi, with plenty of clapping and a cheeky tipple of Scotch Whisky to get everyone in the spirit!

Head Chef Chris served up a true Highland feast, starting with vegetable Scotch broth followed by traditional Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties. For dessert, we enjoyed homemade shortbread and delicious Cranachan.
It was a wonderful day of music, food, and smiles for everyone involved!

A magical Christmas at Vecta House

A magical Christmas at Vecta House

The halls are officially decked, and our hearts are full! Today has been a truly wonderful day for our residents, filled with festive cheer and plenty of smiles.

The highlight of our day was a surprise visit! We had a very special guest stop by! Santa Claus took time out of his busy schedule to hand-deliver gifts to all our residents. Christmas Feast: After the excitement of the morning, we all gathered together to enjoy a delicious, traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings.

Good Company: There is nothing better than the sound of laughter and the joy of sharing a meal together as a family.

From all of us here at Vecta House, we wish our residents, their families, and our wonderful local community a very Merry Christmas!

A Spooktacular Outing to Westover Farm Pumpkin Patch!

A Spooktacular Outing to Westover Farm Pumpkin Patch!

What a wonderful afternoon our residents had today on our trip to Westover Farm Pumpkin Patch! The weather was perfect, and the atmosphere was just magical. The fields looked absolutely gorgeous, with rows of vibrant sunflowers still standing tall and bright against the autumn sky – a beautiful backdrop for our photos! The farm trail was decked out with some truly awesome decorations, making the walk to the patch a fun adventure in itself.

Our residents loved exploring and choosing their favourites from the fantastic variety of pumpkins on offer. There were big ones, small ones, bumpy ones, and smooth ones! It was lovely to see everyone getting into the spirit of the season.

No autumn outing is complete without a warming treat! We all enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate complete with cream and marshmallows to sweeten the day. A highlight for many of our residents was simply sitting and watching the joy of the younger generations—seeing the children run around and excitedly search for their favourite pumpkin brought so many smiles to their faces.

It was a fantastic day out filled with fresh air, beautiful sights, and great company.

A Flippin’ Fantastic Evening at Vecta House!

A Flippin’ Fantastic Evening at Vecta House!

Tonight, our dining room was transformed into a gourmet pancake station to celebrate Shrove Tuesday in style. Our residents enjoyed a true fine dining experience, customising their golden pancakes with a vibrant spread of fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries.

Whether they preferred the classic zing of lemon and sugar or indulgent drizzles of maple syrup, strawberry, and chocolate sauces, there was a perfect combination for everyone. The delicious treats were washed down with a refreshing glass of wine while the room was filled with the sound of soothing music, making for a wonderfully relaxed and elegant atmosphere.

It was the perfect way to satisfy a sweet tooth and enjoy a cosy evening of great food and even better company.

A day full of movement and adventure

A day full of movement and adventure

We’ve had a busy and bright day here at Vecta House!

We started our morning on a high note with the lovely Suki, who led an incredible music and movement class. There’s nothing like some rhythmic chair exercises to get the blood pumping and the smiles flowing!
The excitement didn’t stop there. This afternoon, we hopped on the minibus for a trip to Amazon World. From colourful birds and curious reptiles to the adorable red pandas, our residents had a wonderful time exploring the wild side of the island. It’s days like these that make life at Vecta House so special.

Who says relaxation can’t turn into a party?

Who says relaxation can’t turn into a party?

What started as a peaceful Namaste session here at Vecta House quickly took a fun turn this evening! After some wonderful sensory relaxation, our residents decided the night was still young.

The calming music was swapped for some upbeat favourites, the wine was poured, and a full-blown sing-along broke out! It’s been a night full of laughter, great music, and even better company.

A magical Christmas party!

A magical Christmas party!

There’s nothing quite like the joy of the holiday season! Today, our home was filled with laughter, music, and so much love as we hosted our annual Christmas party.

Our tables were dressed to impress with festive crackers, delicious mince pies, and a wonderful selection of holiday treats. But the real highlight was seeing our residents, families, and staff all coming together as one big family.

A massive thank you to the amazing Hanna Nixon who truly brought the house down! From singing along to ringing bells and dancing with a glass of mulled wine in hand, Hanna made sure it was a truly fun and special afternoon for everyone involved.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made these memories so bright!

A HUGE Celebration at Vecta House

A HUGE Celebration at Vecta House

Today, we had the incredible honour of celebrating our wonderful senior nurse, Ana, who reached a monumental milestone: 20 years of dedicated service at Vecta House Care Home! Ana received a wonderful surprise when she walked into reception this afternoon, where she was greeted by her colleagues and our Senior General Manager, Nichola Shepherd, ready to congratulate her on this amazing achievement.

To recognise her commitment, Ana was presented with a beautiful array of gifts, including flowers, chocolates, a special 20-year Barchester brooch, and vouchers—plus, a well-deserved glass of bubbly to toast the celebrations!

We simply can't thank Ana enough for her unwavering dedication, her hard work, and the truly amazing care she shows to our residents, their families, and her colleagues every single day. She is a true inspiration!
Join us in sending a massive congratulations and thank you to Ana!

Ready for take off!

Ready for take off!

We had a fantastic afternoon in the dining room today as our residents took to the skies—well, almost! Our Crafty Corner was in full swing with a model aeroplane building and painting session that brought out everyone’s inner engineer.

It was wonderful to see everyone getting stuck into the fine details, from carefully assembling the wings to choosing the perfect colours for their custom aircraft. Between the building and painting, there was plenty of laughter and "hangar talk" as we shared fond memories of travels and vintage planes from years gone by.

These sessions are such a great way for us to stay creative, keep our hands busy, and enjoy some quality time together over a cup of tea. We are so proud of the mini-fleet our residents produced today!

G'day mates!

G'day mates!

Things got a little "wild" today at Vecta House as we traded the Isle of Wight for the Outback! We had a fair dinkum time celebrating Australia Day with a virtual adventure that was simply "beaut."

The lounge was transformed with Australian flags, festive bunting, and even some adorable koala balloons to set the scene. Our residents got comfortable in their favourite chairs as we embarked on a virtual tour across the globe, exploring the stunning sights of Sydney and the vibrant streets of Melbourne while learning interesting facts along the way. No road trip is complete without snacks, so we followed up our sightseeing by tucking into some delicious Australia-themed cupcakes. To keep the "party" vibes going, we spent the afternoon listening to the iconic sounds of Kylie Minogue—it was a real ripper of a time!

Did you know? Australia is the only continent in the world without an active volcano! It makes for a very peaceful place to enjoy those 10,000 different beaches.

It’s been a wonderful day full of smiles, trivia, and great music. Cheers to everyone who made our trip Down Under so special!

Shake, Rattle, and Roll at Vecta House!

Shake, Rattle, and Roll at Vecta House!

We’ve been "All Shook Up" here at Vecta House Care Home as we celebrated the King of Rock 'n' Roll's birthday a day early with a spectacular Elvis Presley-themed tea party. The home was transformed into our very own Graceland, with tables beautifully decorated with Elvis cut-outs and laid with our finest China for a truly royal afternoon.

We spent the afternoon indulging in delicious cupcakes, tea, and coffee while singing along to all our favourite hits. There was "A Little Less Conversation" and a lot more laughing as we all donned Elvis masks, leading to some brilliant giggling and our very best impersonations of the King himself!

To top off the fun, we held an Elvis trivia quiz where we discovered some amazing facts. Did you know that Elvis was actually a natural blonde, or that he was a twin? It was a wonderful day filled with "Burning Love" and nostalgia, proving that at Vecta House, Elvis had definitely not left the building!

Blue Suede Shoes: Optional.
Good times: Guaranteed.

A Symphony of Christmas Cheer at Vecta House!

A Symphony of Christmas Cheer at Vecta House!

What a truly magical afternoon we had today! We were delighted to welcome the incredible Vectis Brass to Vecta House for a spectacular Christmas Carol concert.

The home was filled with the powerful, festive sounds of brass, but the best part was seeing our residents’ faces light up as they sang along with their loved ones. Having families join us made the music even more special—there’s nothing quite like a sing-along to bring everyone together! From "Silent Night" to "Away in a Manger", the atmosphere was filled with warmth, nostalgia, and plenty of holiday spirit.

A massive thank you to Vectis Brass Band for their wonderful performance and to all the families who joined us to make these memories so special.

Encore! Encore!

Encore! Encore!

What a dazzling afternoon at Vecta House as residents and staff celebrated World Opera Day! The atmosphere was full of glamour and anticipation as we welcomed the incredibly talented opera singer Annalisa Vaughan, Opera Singer and Voice Coach and pianist Alan Nicholls.

Everyone was absolutely mesmerised by Annalisa's beautiful voice! She performed some wonderfully familiar songs that brought back fond memories for our residents. It was a truly spectacular show! Take a look at the photos from our special opera performance below!
