Activities at Vecta House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Celebrating life at Vecta House Care Home

Car Show

Car Show

What an unforgettable afternoon at Vecta House!

Today we hosted our much-anticipated Annual Classic Car Show, and it was a roaring success. Our grounds were filled with a fantastic array of beautiful vintage vehicles, ranging from classic Morris Minors to sleek Jaguars.

Our residents had a wonderful time taking a stroll down memory lane, admiring the cars, and sharing stories about their own motoring memories. The atmosphere was buzzing all afternoon, complete with gorgeous face painting thanks to Tracy's Faces, sweet treats from the candy floss stall, and fantastic live music from the talented Paolo, who had everyone singing along!

A huge, heartfelt thank you to the Vectis Historic Vehicle Club Ltd for supporting us for another year and making this event so special for our residents, staff, and visitors. We are already looking forward to the next one!

Tuesdays are for storytelling

Tuesdays are for storytelling

Our hearts are absolutely full today at Vecta House! We were thrilled to welcome back the wonderful children from Summerfield’s Primary School for our weekly Book Club.

Every Tuesday afternoon, the children bring in their favourite books and read aloud to our residents. It has quickly become one of the absolute highlights of the week here. There is something truly magical about seeing the generations come together over a great story—the room was filled with smiles, laughter, and so much joy.

Thank you so much to the students and staff at Summerfield’s Primary School for making our Tuesdays so bright. We are already counting down the days until next week!

A Sweet Farewell & World Bee Day Celebrations at Vecta House!

A Sweet Farewell & World Bee Day Celebrations at Vecta House!

We might be a week late, but we couldn't miss out on marking World Bee Day here at Vecta House!
Today, our gardens were absolutely buzzing as we welcomed the wonderful team from the Isle of Wight Beekeepers Association.

They gave us a truly fascinating talk all about the art of beekeeping. Our residents were captivated and had so many brilliant questions throughout.

To top off a brilliant afternoon, our guests kindly gifted us a jar of delicious local Isle of Wight honey. The residents wasted absolutely no time putting it to the test, enjoying it drizzled generously over bowls of ice cream for the perfect sunny-day treat!

Rain or shine, it's outing time!

Rain or shine, it's outing time!

The weather couldn't dampen our spirits at Vecta House today! Despite dodging a few showers, our residents had a fantastic minibus trip over to the Horse and Groom.

The grey skies actually made for a great game of "I-Spy," and we even managed to spot a Stickman during our travels!

Once we were tucked away in the warm and dry, everyone enjoyed a real feast. Residents tucked into savoury bacon and cheese sandwiches with a side of hot crispy chips, followed by refreshing ice cream and a perfectly brewed cup of coffee.

A little bit of rain didn't stop the big smiles and great conversation. It was the perfect afternoon to get out and about and enjoy some good company!

Sun, sea and smiles at Vecta House

Sun, sea and smiles at Vecta House

We have had the most wonderful day making the most of this gorgeous weather! We kicked things off with a classic minibus outing to Cowes seafront, where there is nothing quite like the fresh sea breeze and the sight of the boats gliding across the water. Of course, no trip to the coast is complete without a treat, so we all made sure to enjoy some delicious ice cream while soaking up the views.

The excitement continued into the afternoon as we welcomed back the lovely Barbara from Visosport. Our residents had a fantastic time engaging in interactive table games, which always bring out a bit of friendly competition and plenty of laughter. To round off a perfect day, many of our residents headed out to the garden to keep soaking up those rays and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

It has been a day full of fresh air, great company, and happy memories. Have a look at some of our highlights in the photos below!

"Curiouser and curiouser!"

"Curiouser and curiouser!"

Today, the garden at Vecta House Care Home was transformed into a whimsical wonderland for our very own Alice in Wonderland Tea Party!

The garden felt like a page straight out of a storybook, with beautiful decorations hanging from the trees. As the King of Hearts would say, "Begin at the beginning,"—so we did, with tables laid out with absolutely delicious treats and plenty of tea!

Our wonderful staff dressed up for the occasion, and our residents joined in the fun with some wonderfully wacky hats. With incredible live music filling the afternoon air, it wasn’t long before everyone was smiling and dancing. After all, "Alice: How long is forever? White Rabbit: Sometimes, just one second."—but the joy we shared this afternoon will stay with us much longer.

It was a truly lovely, magical afternoon filled with laughter, music, and wonderful memories.
"Where paths with a heart can take you, there you will find the most beautiful stories."

Sunshine, Scenery, and Sweet Treats!

Sunshine, Scenery, and Sweet Treats!

Today, our wonderful residents at Vecta House jumped aboard the minibus for a fantastic day trip to the beautiful Quarr Abbey! We were incredibly lucky to catch the morning sunshine as we strolled through and admired the stunning, peaceful grounds. It was the perfect, tranquil start to our day.

During our visit, we spent some quiet time in the chapel, where residents lit a candle for loved ones. Afterward, we explored the abbey shop to taste some delicious Isle of Wight jams and chutneys, and took a lovely stroll through the art gallery to admire the beautiful paintings on display. A trip to Quarr Abbey wouldn't be complete without visiting and feeding the famous pigs, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed!
We wrapped up our wonderful day the best way we know how—relaxing in the café together with a nice cup of tea and some delicious cake. Everyone had a fabulous time soaking in the history, nature, and community spirit.

What a spectacular, sensory-filled day at Vecta House!

What a spectacular, sensory-filled day at Vecta House!

We kicked off our morning by diving into a relaxing "Under the Sea" sensory session, beautifully hosted by the wonderful Sensory Space CIC Our residents loved exploring a variety of sensory items, all while surrounded by soothing lights and calming music. The absolute crowd favourite? The bubbles, of course!

The fun didn't stop there. This afternoon, we made the most of the glorious sunshine and headed out into our beautiful sensory gardens. We spent the hours basking in the warmth, listening to some classic 60s rock 'n' roll, and treating ourselves to delicious ice cream and refreshing mocktails.

Celebrating our heroes at Vecta House

International Nurses Day! Our nurses are the heartbeat of our home, providing much more than just medical care. They offer comfort, a listening ear, and a dedicated hand to hold for our residents and their families every single day.

To show our appreciation for their unwavering commitment and professional excellence, we spent the morning honouring our incredible nursing team with some well-deserved surprises. Each of our nurses was presented with a beautiful floral bouquet to brighten their day, a box of chocolates as a sweet treat, and a formal certificate of appreciation to recognise their tireless dedication and expertise.

To our nursing team: Thank you for the late nights, the early mornings, and the immense heart you put into everything you do. You don't just "do" a job—you make a profound difference in the lives of everyone here at Vecta House. We are so proud to have you on our team.

Please join us in the comments below by sharing a message of thanks for our wonderful nurses!

Easter Sunday at Vecta House

Easter Sunday at Vecta House

What a wonderful day we’ve had celebrating Easter with our lovely residents! The home was filled with joy, music, and—of course—plenty of chocolate.

We kicked things off this morning with a specially decorated Easter trolley, delivering delicious chocolate eggs and spending time reminiscing about favourite Easter traditions from years gone by. The festivities continued with a spectacular themed lunch featuring a delicious roast lamb that was enjoyed by everyone.

To top off the day, we enjoyed some truly fantastic musical entertainment by the incredibly talented Stacey Rae, who had everyone smiling and tapping their toes. It’s been a beautiful day full of laughter and community spirit.

Sending a very Happy Easter to all of our residents, their families, and our hardworking team!

What a fantastic day at the seaside

What a fantastic day at the seaside

Today, our wonderful residents at Vecta House joined forces with our friends from Orchard House Care Home for an extra special outing. We headed down to Cowes where we met up with the incredible team from Wetwheels Hamble for an unforgettable boat trip out on the water.

It was a truly magical day filled with spectacular views. We had the perfect vantage point to see all the beautiful sailing boats, and we caught a stunning view of Osborne House from the water. The boat even took off at quite a speed! The beautiful, cool sea air was absolute bliss on such a hot day, though we definitely had to hold onto our hats.

Our residents had the absolute best time. Eve declared that this was "the best so far," and Rich couldn't stop smiling, saying he had a "great time."

A massive thank you to Orchard House Care Centre for the wonderful company and to Wetwheels Hamble for making our day so special. We are already looking forward to the next voyage!

Celebrating culture and diversity at Vecta House

Celebrating culture and diversity at Vecta House

This afternoon, we were absolutely thrilled to host our 5th annual Culture Party alongside the wonderful Isle of Wight Indonesian community!

What started as a small idea has now become a beloved yearly tradition here at Vecta House. Our incredible staff poured their hearts and culinary talents into cooking a magnificent feast of traditional foods from their home countries for everyone to enjoy.

The afternoon was filled with vibrant colours as our Indonesian guests dressed in stunning traditional costumes and performed breath-taking traditional dances. This event is all about celebrating the beautiful cultures and diversity that make our Vecta House family so special. Honestly, what better way to bring people together than through the universal languages of amazing food, uplifting music, and dance? Our residents had an absolute blast, with so many of them jumping right in to dance along and join the festivities.

Thank you so much to everyone who cooked, performed, and celebrated with us today. Here’s to many more years of this beautiful tradition!

From Zen to Zen-tury Fox!

From Zen to Zen-tury Fox!

It’s been a day of two halves here at Vecta House, and our residents have loved every second of it!
We started our morning with a tranquil Namaste session, transforming the room into a relaxing haven designed to engage all five senses. It was a beautiful opportunity for everyone to unwind with soothing hand massages, fresh nail painting, or a quiet moment spent reading and knitting. To keep the energy light and refreshing, we served delicious fruit smoothies and platters of fresh fruit throughout the session.

The peace and quiet didn't last for long, though, because the Wild West arrived at Vecta House this afternoon! We traded the knitting needles for cowboy hats as our dining room was decorated for a full-blown country and western party. Our very own cowboy, Paolo, took to the stage and performed a fantastic set that had everyone up and dancing.

It’s been a wonderful day of relaxation followed by high-energy fun. Take a look at some of our favourite moments from today in the photos below!

Royal Mint Museum

Royal Mint Museum

At Vecta House, we are dedicated to delivering an activities programme that everyone can enjoy. Whether our residents prefer joining in with group events or require specialized care in their own rooms, we make sure no one misses out on the fun. While the big events are great, it’s often the smaller, meaningful moments spent one-on-one that truly make a house a home, and today we wanted to share a peek into what we’ve been up to.

Today, our residents spent a wonderful afternoon exploring the Royal Mint Museum reminiscing box. We looked through scrapbooks of vintage coin designs and handled "old money," from farthings and half-pennies to the very first decimal coins. It was absolutely lovely to hear everyone sharing stories and reminiscing about the days of different currency.

Making wishes come true at Vecta House

Making wishes come true at Vecta House

At Vecta House, we believe you’re never too old for a "wild" encounter. This was a truly heart-melting day as we helped our lovely resident, Rich, reconnect with one of his greatest lifelong passions: wildlife.
Rich has been a bird lover his entire life and has always shared his home with feathered friends. Lately, he has been missing his beloved African Grey parrot. While it would have been a bit too stressful for her to travel for a visit, our team was determined to bring that joy back to him. Alongside the incredible Nicki and Lorna from the Isle of Wight Bird Rescue, we arranged for a very special guest to fly by for a surprise visit.

Rich was absolutely over the moon to meet Dudley the Macaw. His eyes lit up the very moment Dudley entered the room, and the two became fast friends. Dudley spent a wonderful afternoon perched comfortably on Rich’s arm and sitting atop his chair, much to the delight of everyone watching. The visit sparked a beautiful trip down memory lane as Rich shared stories of the many birds he has kept over the years and chatted away with the rescue team about Dudley’s care. It was a heart-warming reminder of how much these connections matter.

A massive thank you to the Isle of Wight Bird Rescue for helping us make this wish take flight!
