Activities at Vecta House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Celebrating life at Vecta House Care Home
Encore! Encore!
What a dazzling afternoon at Vecta House as residents and staff celebrated World Opera Day! The atmosphere was full of glamour and anticipation as we welcomed the incredibly talented opera singer Annalisa Vaughan, Opera Singer and Voice Coach and pianist Alan Nicholls.
Everyone was absolutely mesmerised by Annalisa's beautiful voice! She performed some wonderfully familiar songs that brought back fond memories for our residents. It was a truly spectacular show! Take a look at the photos from our special opera performance below!
A Huge Thank You to the Wonderful Christopher Hayton!
We had an absolutely delightful day today at Vecta House, thanks to a very special visit from the incredibly kind and talented Christopher Hayton.
Chris delivered a beautiful, personalised garden trough for our residents to enjoy and get their green fingers working. This wonderful gesture alone would have brightened our day, but Chris went above and beyond! He put on his fantastic chipmunk costume and brought so much laughter and joy to our residents with his visit! We're still smiling!
Did you know Chris makes these amazing garden troughs to raise donations for mental health charities? What a fantastic cause! Chris is a true community champion and has won several accolades for his efforts, including the recent Gold Award for Recycling Project of the Year and Silver for Community Project of the Year!
From all the residents and staff at Vecta House, we send a huge thank you to Chris for his generosity, creativity, and for making today so memorable. We wish him all the very best for his future projects!

What a wonderful afternoon!
We were absolutely delighted to welcome the fantastic children from Summerfield’s Primary School to Vecta House today for a special Harvest Festival celebration! The children sang a beautiful selection of harvest-themed songs, and we had residents clapping and singing along. It was so heart-warming to see the generations connect.
Thank you to the students and staff of Summerfield’s for sharing your joy with us!

Wonderful Welcomes & Book Club Bounces Back!
What a lovely afternoon at Vecta House Care Home! We were absolutely thrilled to welcome back the wonderful children from Summerfield’s Primary School today for the return of our ever-popular Book Club!
After the long summer holidays, the residents were so excited to see their young friends again, and the room was filled with smiles and stories. We just love the genuine connection that forms over the pages of a good book! We can't wait to dive back into our weekly reading sessions when Book Club officially kicks off after half-term!
But the fun doesn't stop there—next week, we're looking forward to celebrating Harvest Festival with our friends from Summerfield’s! Get ready for some autumnal cheer!
Charity Coffee Morning
What a wonderful day we've had at Vecta House! Our reception was filled with the delicious smell of homemade treats for our Macmillan cake sale. Our incredible staff baked up a storm, and the table was a sight to behold, decorated with Macmillan bunting and piled high with amazing cakes.
From rich rocky road and decadent millionaire shortbread to classic coffee and walnut cake and yummy brownies, there was something for everyone. And it was all for an amazing cause!
We're so happy to announce our running total so far is £120! A huge thank you to all our staff who baked and to everyone who bought a cake or made a donation.
World Ballet Day at Vecta House!
What a truly magnifique (magnificent) afternoon our residents enjoyed celebrating World Ballet Day! We were treated to a special, interactive performance that was both graceful and educational. A huge thank you to the talented dance teacher, Miss Ann, and her student, Hope, who guided us through the world of ballet. We learnt that the names of all the beautiful positions, like Plié (to bend) and Arabesque (a pose on one leg), are all in French!
A Lesson in Grace. The residents got to see real Pointe shoes up close and asked Miss Ann lots of interesting questions about her dancing.
The best part? At the end, Miss Ann demonstrated simple, elegant arm movements—like moving from a gentle Bras Bas (low arms) to First Position (arms rounded in front)—and everyone happily joined in!
It was a fantastic session of music, learning, and elegant movement. We are so grateful to Miss Ann and Hope for sharing their passion with us and for a wonderful afternoon of dance!
A Centenary to Remember at Vecta House!
Today was an incredibly special day as we celebrated our amazing resident, Muriel's 100th Birthday!
The whole home was buzzing with excitement and celebrations. Our fantastic kitchen team whipped up some truly delicious cakes, and the wonderful carers Lia and Ali ensured Muriel was pampered and looking absolutely fabulous for her party!
The room was beautifully decorated with balloons and banners, and Muriel's special family table was overflowing with birthday wishes. We want to extend a massive thank you to the Isle of Wight community and everyone further afield—Muriel received over 140 cards and counting! These included cards from Switzerland, the lovely people at Card Factory, our brilliant postmen and women, and, of course, a very special card from The King! Your kindness and generosity have truly made her day unforgettable.
The party officially started with live musical entertainment from Si Wheeler, getting everyone up and dancing and singing along before we all joined together for a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday" for Muriel.
It was a day full of joy, music, and love. Thank you again to everyone who sent cards and gifts!
Vecta House Went YELLOW for Mountbatten Hospice!
Today, Vecta House care home was buzzing with activity as we joined many other homes, businesses, and schools across the island to celebrate Go Yellow Day! We're so proud to have been part of this huge effort to raise vital funds for the amazing Mountbatten Isle of Wight.
Our reception looked beautifully bright with a stall full of sunflower merchandise for sale! Our staff really got into the spirit, wearing yellow and some fantastic fancy dress costumes—we even had a bumblebee, a banana, and a pineapple roaming the halls!
The afternoon was capped off with a fantastic yellow-themed tea party featuring delicious cakes baked by our wonderful chef. The entertainment was courtesy of the brilliant Sandy, who sang a selection of classic ABBA tunes! Everyone was singing and dancing along—it was a truly great afternoon!
A huge THANK YOU to Sandy Lenny and her husband for supporting the event and to everyone who made a donation.
We are delighted to announce that we raised an amazing £142 for Mountbatten Hospice!

National Arts in Care Homes Day
We’re delighted to share the highlights from our participation in the nationwide National Arts in Care Home celebration! This wonderful event saw us join care homes across the country to recognise the vital role the arts plays in our residents' lives.
This year's theme was “Green” and our residents embraced it with enthusiasm, creating a fantastic “under the sea” canvas. We were fortunate to be joined by Kirstie from Independent Arts, who helped guide the session. Using air dry clay, residents had a great time sculpturing various sea creatures to bring the vibrant ocean scene to life.
More than just a fun pastime, engaging in artistic activities offers numerous, profound benefits for residents, impacting their emotional wellbeing.
We are proud to consistently integrate creative arts into our schedule, ensuring our residents continue to reap these valuable rewards.
The vibrant energy of Mexico
Olé! Today, Vecta House was buzzing with the vibrant energy of Mexico!
We transformed our dining rooms into a fiesta of bright, beautiful colours, setting the scene for an unforgettable Mexican-themed lunch. The lively sounds of mariachi music filled the air, getting everyone in the spirit of the day.
Our incredible kitchen team truly outdid themselves with a spectacular menu! We started with a delicious Pozole soup and refreshing Tajín cucumber with guacamole. For the main course, residents and their families had the choice of classic chili con carne or a tasty spicy sweet potato. And for dessert? A mouthwatering Mexican fruit salad and authentic churros with a kick of chilli chocolate. The fun didn't stop there! This afternoon, we embarked on a virtual journey with our "armchair travel to Mexico." We explored the country's rich and colourful history while enjoying a classic Mexican snack of nachos and dips, all paired with a refreshing glass of margarita.
It was a truly fantastic day filled with great food, wonderful company, and a whole lot of fiestas!

Paws-itively Overwhelmed by Your Generosity!
We at Vecta House Care Home want to send a massive thank you to our incredible families, and staff who donated to our recent pet food collection for Friends of the Animals Charity Shop – 123 Pyle Street, Newport.
We were absolutely overwhelmed by the sheer volume of generous donations we received—you truly opened your hearts (and pantries!) for the local animals in need.
When we delivered the food, the team at Friends of the Animals was incredibly grateful and so thankful for your support. These donations will make a huge difference in keeping bellies full and tails wagging! Thank you again for helping us support such a worthy cause. Your kindness is an inspiration!

Celebrating Our Gentlemen at Vecta House!
Happy International Men's Day! Today was all about celebrating our wonderful gentleman residents here at Vecta House.
We started the morning with "Haven and Hobbies," where our gents enjoyed an activity of their choice, right in the comfort of their own rooms. It's always lovely to see their personal passions come to life!
This afternoon, we headed out for a fantastic social trip to the local Hare and Hounds Isle of Wight pub for a well-deserved pint! A huge thanks to the staff there for making us feel so welcome. On returning, the fun continued as the gentlemen gathered in the lounge to relax, enjoy some refreshments, and watch football together!
It was a brilliant day of camaraderie, conversation, and good times. Here's to our amazing gentlemen.

Forest View Nursery and Café
Picture-perfect day out at one of our favourite places, Forest View Nursery and Café. As soon as we arrived, Ann was warmly welcomed by the staff, who remember her from her regular visits—it was so heart-warming to see! We enjoyed wandering through all the colourful flowers before heading to the café for some much-deserved coffee and cake.
Ann had a great time chatting and reminiscing with the staff about her past visits, and Gordon also shared some wonderful memories of visiting with his wife. Eve was absolutely delighted, enjoying her chocolate brownie and making a sweet new furry friend, Buddy!
It’s these little outings and familiar places that make all the difference. Thank you, Forests View, for the wonderful time!

Sound bath
Today was all about relaxation at Vecta House, and it was a huge success!
We were delighted to host Mel from Echo me sound therapy for an amazing sound bath experience. Using a variety of instruments like beautiful gongs, crystal bowls, chimes, and a rain stick, Mel created a serene and calming soundscape.
The benefits of a sound bath are truly remarkable. The gentle vibrations can help calm the nervous system, lower stress and anxiety, and even lead to better sleep. As you can see from the photos, both our residents and staff who participated felt a wonderful sense of peace and deep relaxation. It was a beautiful reminder of the power of sound to soothe and heal.
Culture party
At Vecta House care home, we believe in celebrating the rich tapestry of cultures that make our community so vibrant! Each year, we host a special event dedicated to culture and diversity, and this year was a truly heart-warming success.
For the second year in a row, we were honoured to be joined by members of the local Indonesian community! The air was filled with delicious aromas as our staff and guests cooked up a feast of traditional foods. The tables laid with an incredible spread, featuring everything from sweet Nastar and fragrant Pandan cake to savoury rice cakes, risoles, noodles, and spring rolls.
The celebration kicked off with a beautiful performance of traditional Indonesian dancing, with everyone mesmerized by the intricate costumes and music. After the dance, the food and conversation flowed freely. Residents loved asking questions and learning more about Indonesian culture, which truly enhanced the sense of diversity and connection within our home and the wider community.
And of course, no celebration is complete without one last dance! After everyone had enjoyed the delicious food, we all got together for one final dance, bringing a perfect end to a wonderful day. We want to extend a huge thank you to the Indonesian community for sharing their culture and food with us. We can't wait to do it again next year!
