What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"Today we attended a wonderful Platinum Jubilee party, giving our family the opportunity to share a positive, uplifting afternoon with Mum. Thank you for having us, and thanks to all the staff for their efforts."

"Very impressed with all the staff we have met. My aunt is very well looked after and I have total faith in the care she is receiving. Each visit we have been treated as friends, not just clients."

"I have been coming to visit Dad twice a week and I could not be made more welcome. Dad is happy here which makes us happy. Everyone at Vector House is so kind to us and Dad. We are so happy that Dad has a home here."

"As a family, we are very very happy with the care and attention that our father is receiving. The staff are always welcoming. They allowed us to give him a piece of garden outside his bedroom window which we planted up with colourful flowers. Everyone who used the garden could enjoy the flowers. We like the hospitality where we can make tea/coffee and share it with Dad in the reception. No complaints."

"From day one was made to feel very welcome and has been the same every time I visit. It's very homely, clean and well looked after. I leave there knowing my other half is being well looked after, and is happy to stay. I find it is well run, plenty of staff on hand, if you need to ask a question or need help someone is there."

"Very good home managed and run by excellent staff. Everyone knows our next of kin (resident) and always greets her by her first name, even those staff not directly engaged in her wing. Special praise needs to go to the activities coordinator who provides almost a daily programme of activities tailored to the individual. The only negative is the cost which has increased significantly for every resident making it the most expensive care home locally. Overall we are very satisfied with the standard of care our next of kin is receiving but Barchester need to review their charges and reduce dividends to shareholders."

"This is a lovely, spacy, airy nursing home. The staff are exceptional. The residents are so well treated. Each person called me by name and made to feel happy and content. The staff are so kind to relatives of residents, and we are made to be welcome at all times."

"My dad moved to Vecta House recently. The staff could not have made us feel more welcome. Everyone stopped, had a chat, and introduced themselves; all staff are happy to help, with a lovely smile. The fact that Mum can have lunch with Dad is lovely. At his last home, we couldn't even have a cuppa with him. The environment is spotless, comfortable and spacious. The atmosphere is calm, cheerful and likes belonging to a family. Well done all!"

"Brilliant team looking after my Mum. Nothing is too difficult for them, and all requests have been dealt with in a quick and efficient manner. Regular updates and newsletters from the home. Brilliant party for the Queens Platinum Celebrations."

"My husband is so comfortable and settled since being in the care home. The staff are so caring and friendly, and I am always kept informed regarding any "small" issues which may arise. I am so impressed with the whole set-up of the home that if I found myself in need of care, this would be the ideal place that I would wish for."

"Staff have been completely alert and proactive to the care needs of my relative. They contacted us as soon as they had concerns his health was seriously deteriorating. He was expected not to live, and they facilitated frequent visits with us, his next of kin, in very difficult circumstances. As a result, my relative has really improved and is getting better day by day; his life has been extended."

"The setting for Vectra House is quiet and peaceful and the car parking is excellent. Inside the decor is attractive and well planned. The doors to the resident's room are open except for privacy and this gives a feeling of inclusion in the community, especially for the bed-bound. There is an atmosphere of positivity, peacefulness even when the louder residents are are expressing themselves and an invitation to enjoy life. The staff are extremely professional, caring and nurturing, willing and kind and there is a feeling of cohesion. End of life care is beautiful."

"My wife and I have been visiting her aunty for about twelve months. Every time we have been welcomed. We can see the care is on the highest standard and aunty seems really happy and comfortable. The staff obviously go the extra mile for the residents."

"My next of kin was admitted to Vecta House on 21 October 2021. I have only been once to deliver clothes etc. and was immediately impressed with the actual premises and the staff I met at the time. I telephone weekly to check on how he is and any staff I have spoken with are amazingly friendly, kind and understanding of our situation. Apparently he "is a totally different man" from when he first arrived - eating well (putting on weight), walking about and generally joking and communicating well with the staff. All I can say is a huge thank you to everyone at Vecta House who are, so obviously, looking after him so very very well - it is a great relief to me to know he is in the best possible place now."

"I am always received in a cheerful, friendly manner by the staff. They appear to be compassionate with my husband and he accepts what is expected of him, his health problems have been addressed and interventions are clearly explained to me. I leave feeling that he is getting the best care. He accepts my departure without showing any anxiety. The methods being used by the staff seem to be controlling any distress."

"We want to make this review because the service provided for my mother/mother-in-law is above and beyond the normal standards! She was transferred to this home from another place where she was neglect, approach with no dignity, and much more! All staff in Vecta House worked so hard to gain her confidence, to provide that care that made my mother happy! I want to say it here and I did in person that I never so my mother so happy! We know was a hard process for all staff but all they have done a great job! It's not easy to approach and understand a person with dementia, frightened and scare and who can't communicate her needs. But they have done an amazing job, the interaction was built in a positive way and now my mother is a different person. People with dementia can communicate their feeling through body language and words sometimes! All I can say is that my mother is now happy, she have an amazing care approach and everyone in that company value her with dignity. Thank you."

"My husband was resident in Vecta House Care home for 2 years. He had Alzheimer's Disease and was, sometimes very aggressive. He had been in another care home, where his aggression was controlled with medication, making him very unsteady on his feet, although he was physically fit and mobile. Within a fortnight of moving into Vecta House, the staff managed to handle the aggression without medication and he was able to walk independently around the home and lovely gardens. The confinement made necessary by the pandemic and progression of his disease made him bed-bound and in July 2021, he was put on the end of life care. At this time I was able to visit at any time and stay with him as long as I wanted. For 2 weeks I sat by his bedside. The staff were caring and attentive. With the door open, I could hear all that was happening in Chillerton Section and I never heard a cross or grumpy word. With difficult and challenging residents all I heard was fun, laughter, care and compassion."

"I cannot rate this care home highly enough. My nan wasn't at the care home long before she passed away as she was very poorly. The care, compassion and kindness shown to her was incredible, as family we felt like she was in the best place. The staff became friends to us also and we felt like they really cared about us as well as nan. Nan was well looked after and her individual needs were met and they really cared for her as a person. I would recommend Barchester Vecta House Care Home and all the lovely staff to anyone looking for a care home for their relative. My review doesn't include the activities as nan was bed ridden when she was at the home."

"My mum was lucky to have spent her last four months at Barchester Vecta House Care Home having suffered from rapid-onset Alzheimer's in February 2024. This thank you was in the eulogy at my mum's funeral and wanted to share it with you all: Vecta House, you are a truly wonderful team and my family would like to thank you all from the bottom of their hearts for the care, kindness, love and affection that you showed my mum, which never wavered right up until her last moments."

"I can honestly say this home is beyond wonderful! The staff are truly amazing - not only do they do their jobs brilliantly but they actively look to anticipate the residents' needs. If there is a "fall" or problem, they inform you immediately which is very comforting. I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that my mother is well cared for 24 hours a day."

"I am completely convinced that every person who works here has to sit a ‘loveliness’ exam as part of the recruitment process! From the manager to the chefs to the nurses to the reception staff - everybody here is just so caring and welcoming. I desperately wish my mum didn’t have dementia, but she does and that being the case, I don’t believe she could get better care. It’s not the building - the bedrooms, lounges or dining rooms that make this place - even though they’re very nice; it’s the ethos and genuine care shown by everyone working there that makes this such an amazing place. I live in Scotland and am much comforted by knowing my lovely mum is receiving such wonderful care. Thank you all so much."

"The staff are all so caring. Everybody has made Mum feel welcome and at home. Nothing is too much trouble and if Mum asks for anything, the staff will always accommodate her straight away. The food is excellent and a wide selection of choices. Coffee and cake are readily available. Entertainment is excellent, Mum is very happy here, this makes the process easier to cope with for the family."

"My mum is a new resident. The staff are wonderful, kind, caring, personable and everybody smiles pleasantly! The home is bright, airy and comfortable. The food looks delicious and my mum (not a big eater) enjoyed a three-course lunch while I was there. Thank you Barchester Vecta House Care Home."

"Since becoming a resident with dementia at Vecta House Care Home six months ago, my husband has definitely improved with his everyday living. The carers are really kind and attentive and he is happy in his new environment. The care home is spacious and allows my husband 'freedom' of movement which is important to him. This leaves me happy with peace of mind. His appetite has increased and he is looking so much better. He is being well cared for by pleasant, caring staff. Thank you."

"Have been visiting for over 2 years and have always found the staff very helpful, friendly, happy and let themselves be known to you if there are any questions one has in relation to who they are seeing. Always when the drinks cart is around you are asked if you would like a drink. This provider is always clean, tidy, spotless each time I have been around."

"The home has just been refurbished so currently is lovely and clean and fresh outside areas always look attractive and inviting, although I have never seen them used? In general, I have always felt the care here to be very good and staff very helpful and interactive. However, on this visit, I did not see any of the 'usual' staff members and my mother had not really been attended to all morning which I am not so happy about."

"Mum has been a resident for nearly a month and we have been so impressed with the whole experience. Most importantly the staff throughout are excellent and treat Mum with kindness, knowledge and respect. The difficulties of transferring from independent living to a care home have been difficult for Mum but she has settled reasonably well and is much better physically after only 3 weeks. She is enjoying the excellent food and has surprised us by joining in activities and outings. Credit must go to all the staff."

"I find that the home has improved in recent months under new management. My mother likes to regularly have cheese and biscuits for pudding but to my knowledge, only one type of cheese is ever offered. If this is a small indication of menus, then more variety and more imagination is needed. Sometimes, on entering from reception, there is a very strong smell of urine, which is off-putting and unpleasant. I feel that my mother is receiving very good care, all things considered. There is nowhere better on the island for her."

"The management showed us around with pride. All the staff said hello to us, unlike my mother's previous home. They quickly learnt mine and my family's names. "My mum and dad have both been lucky enough to end their days at Barchester Vecta House Care Home. One after 18 months and the other after 3 years. Both have had the care I could only have wished for. I can't thank the staff enough for everything. If anyone has had any experience of Barchester Vecta House Care Home, I have. It's a very friendly home and they have put up with me every day for each amount of time. I can't thank them enough."

"My husband has been at Vecta House since 2014. I am so grateful to all the staff and managers for the excellent care he receives, I have only ever seen dedicated, caring, respectful, understanding care given to all residents. The manager and his deputy are devoted to their patients- willingly drop everything to fill in to cover absenteeism with an occasional shortage of staff. They will not just use agency staff as they feel it's so important for both patients and relatives to feel there is always continuity of care. Familiar faces to care for so many severely troubled soles. They care for the families so much and involve us in the management of our relatives. I feel the latest quality commission report was damning and harsh and the overall loyalty and dedication of all the staff is undermined. Maybe there were a few things that needed change but to deflate such wonderful care is sad."

"My mother was a redient at Vecta House from March 2014 until her death in November 2016. She was treated with dignity and utmost care at all times no matter how difficult her behaviour became because of her Alzheimer's Disease. I cannot praise the staff and management highly enough. I also received great support from everyone. Any problems were dealt with promptly and efficiently."
