Activities at Westvale House Care Home

Westvale Care Home recently held a virtual pet competition and we delighted with the response.

Residents loved seeing the photographs and hearing details of who old they are, endearing behaviours that they have and many other fun facts!

Bear the dog, won fluffiest pet.  Reggie the dog won cutest pet and Eva won best overall.

We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.

We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.

We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.

Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.

Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.

In recognition of Macmillan’s Coffee Morning, we hosted our very own garden event for friends, families and community members to raise funds for the charity.

The garden was specially decorated for the occasion, our talented chef prepared a variety of cakes, cupcakes and delicious treats following Macmillan Cancer Support’s recipes and we all got involved in fun-filled games.

We all had a wonderful day raising funds for this lovely cause.

Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Westvale House.   Residents took advantage of the dry weather and early autumn sun for a firm favourite, the parachute!

Every got really competitive, everyone wanted to beat each other and Residents really got into the activity.

Diane, activities coordinator said “Ball exercise is good for Residents wellbeing as it helps with their hand eye coordination and is a good arm exercise to keep them muscles working.”

As part of the homes life enrichment programme, the activities coordinators include firm favourites in the homes calendar with fun-filled adapted games that they played over the years in a safe environment! 

We had a lovely time joining Hospitality Manager, Christophe Noel and special guests Lee Isaacs DipWSET and Nick Parker from Unity Wines and Spirits – as they introduced us to wine tasting techniques, the history of wine and wine making, as well as consumer attitudes.

Our residents had the opportunity to try a variety of wines from sparkling and white to rose and red, alongside a selection of delicious treats. 

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.
