"Westvale cared for my aunt for six years. Care was excellent and very high standards in all aspects. Delighted with how happy she was there. It gave me great peace of mind."

"I would like to say thank you to the care staff at Westvale for supporting our family and helping us through the recent loss of our father, they were very kind and although our fathers stay was short we think this was a very relaxed and pleasant home. In these situations there is never a perfect place but we all appreciated Westvale at our time of need. We would recommend this care home."

"I was extremely concerned when my mum went into a nursing home and made enquiries about CCTV cameras. However within a very short time I realised I need not worry about mum being a resident at Westvale. The whole atmosphere of the place is warm and inviting, the staff are very friendly. I find it difficult to nominate 1 person for 'employee of the month' as the ones who I meet via my mum are all brilliant. I have 5 brothers and lots of nieces who visit mum regularly and they would all agree with my comments. If I have any concerns/ queries I can always go to the office to speak to someone. They always have time to put my mind at ease. The carers I have seen always make a point of smiling, speaking and sometimes 'playing' with the less able residents. We recently had a party at Westvale to celebrate mums 86th birthday. The chef made a tasty buffet and the activities worker arranged for entertainment and balloons etc. I would highly recommend Westvale !!"

"My care during this period has been very good. During October my son was away on holiday and the staff have ensured that I have not gone without any of the things he would do for me."

"Nice, clean friendly home but it is understaffed, not enough carers. Do not get me washed and dressed before 11.30 because there are not enough carers. My activities get cancelled, very little activities on offer. No outings on offer. Would be a marvellous care home if more caregiving and activities people."

"In my experience, there is not enough staff for all the patients. They do not do enough activities for the bed-bound patients that are aware of being bored. Patients are left too long to be changed etc i.e Staff shortages. My sister is happy here but does get depressed with the lack of activities etc. You need to employ people just for activities."

"My sister and I went in every day to help by feeding Mum lunch. My mother was a resident in Westvale Nursing Home for around 3 years. Her care and the support she was given was excellent. All the staff did their utmost to make her comfortable, as Mum did not leave her bed for around 2-3 years. The only comment I can make is that there was never enough staff. The staff there worked so hard to look after the residents and the main nurse on the upstairs floor was excellent at her job, nothing was too much trouble."

"Mu mum stayed at Westvale for one month. The care was palliative as she had suffered a huge stroke in November, that coupled with her Alzheimers was all too much for her sadly. The care received was very good and carers were all respectful and caring towards her. I have only praise and thanks for the team that took care of my dear mum. I would highly recommend to anyone."

"I took a long time to find a suitable home for dad and Westvale House was the best that I saw. I am glad that dad was there. He was an 'easy' gentleman to have to cope for as he was quiet and cooperative. However, he was unable to talk and this was real frustration as often the care staff didn't have the time to be with him or understand him. His room was adequate but could have been cleaner. However, overall, the staff were really good and kind to dad and gave him the best care they could."

"Patients having to wait far too long for attention when requesting assistance ie commode request and when finishing on the toilet due to a shortage of staff however hard the work. Not a satisfactory situation in the morning that people are being washed, dressed and pills while using the commode, due to pressure on staff - again a lack of numbers. Eating utensils not up to standard in cleanliness."

"Following a severe stroke, my aunt moved into Barchester Westvale House Care Home in November 2013 with a life expectancy of 3-4 months. She was totally bed-ridden and unable to do anything for herself. She survived for 4 years, this I attribute to the excellent care she received whilst in Barchester Westvale House Care Home. Whenever we visited (I did vary the times to check on her) she was always clean and tidy and she thoroughly enjoyed her meals. My aunt could be extremely difficult at times, the staff coped with her well and were courteous and she was dealt in a dignified manner, her privacy was upheld always. The staff were very welcoming to us and coffee offered if the trolley was doing its rounds! Can with all honesty recommend Barchester Westvale House Care Home wholeheartedly."

"I have researched many care homes and my mum stayed in several for respite care. I can honestly say this is the best we have experienced. The staff and the facilities are second to none. The caring nature and atmosphere here make it a pleasure to visit and my mum is so happy here. The refurbishment has made this look like a 5 star hotel and the activities are always a pleasure. Highly recommend here!"

"Very happy with this care home. They look after my Mum really well. It is expensive but I suppose you get what you pay for and only the best will do for my Mum. Each year the prices seem to go up a lot which leaves a slight sting in the tail but overall a very good care home."

"Sadly my Nan spent her last times of 96 years in Westvale. She was sadly let down by Westvale and we are extremely disappointed some 6 months later to still be waiting for answers to our concerns. We are disappointed that we were taken in by the brochure, look and feel. It wasn’t what it seems and a significant family regret."

"My neighbour went into hospital and then to the home for respite. While in the home he has been very happy with his room, the care he is getting, in fact, he wants to stay in the home instead of returning to his house. I think they are trying to get him in as a resident because of his standard of care."

"Food - Variety and quality top class. Chefs always will offer an alternative dish to residents. Very much appreciated. Less TV and more getting everyone involved - the sound of the TV takes over the room. Room - often clothes just put on the top shelf in wardrobe and on the chair. No idea whether clean or worn. Wardrobe full of items for use, as is the toilet room - more like a storeroom. Shelf piled up with razers - this is a new occurrence - storage of items is now on the packs in there. Not good."

"In the last few months, me and my family had to make the difficult choice to put my mum in nursing care due to an injury from an accident. My mum is still young and lovely Westvale House has exceeded our expectations. All the staff are kind and dedicated to the residents care and wellbeing, there is always someone to talk to and the manager follows any issues up quickly. Food and cleanliness is spot on and she enjoys activities each day. Knowing mum is well cared for has helped me at such a stressful time."

"When we were told my Mother in Law was in end of life stages of dementia. We were obviously heartbroken. She had spent 3 months in hospital and was deemed medically fit and could be discharged, but she still needed 24-hour care and the thought of not being able to take her home could only be understood by those going through it. So, the many visits of nursing homes started and we had almost given up hope of ever finding anywhere. We know it is not going to be home but none of the others were up to the standard we expected. At Westvale, as soon as we walked in, we felt comfortable. The care provided is exceptional. Everyone from management, nurses, carers, cleaners, chefs and the maintenance team are second to none. I an very grateful my Mother in Law is so well looked after. Thank you!"

"I cannot praise enough the professional and loving care my mum received at Westvale. She settled well, was treated with dignity and respect at all times. He bedroom overlooking the garden was lovely and she took part in social activities each day and loved the meals. From going in in a wheelchair, she was patiently treated and mobilised and after a week's stay, she walked out with a walking stick. The staff are so lovely and were genuinely sad to see her go. My mum was happy to go but couldn't praise them enough. Fantastic."

"Overall, the standard of care us excellent. However, staff levels have dropped over the last couple of months, especially at weekends. This led to my mother-in-law waiting over 20 minutes for someone to come and change her soiled pad. When she first arrived here that would have been less than 5 minutes."

"Westvale's greatest strength is its staff and I mean all of them. Caregivers are patient, kind and thorough. The food - I'd be very happy to eat there and the cleaning staff do an excellent job. Office staff give clear explanations and were very supportive and kind when I was traumatised. Last, but most definitely not least, the nursing staff are wonderful. It's still early days for us, but Mum's settled so quickly. It was a hard change for us too, but the care of the staff there has made it work."

"All our family would like to thank all of the staff. Our mum was end of life with cancer, you all took extremely good care of her. She was treated with dignity and love. We wish all care facilities could be like Westvale. You put our minds at rest. We know she was safe and cared for. A big thank you to everyone."

"First impressions of a good care home are the staff, who are friendly, professional and nothing is too much trouble. The home is clean. This is so important for relatives to know that their loved ones are in a place that meets high standards of hygiene The food is excellent with a good selection to choose from. Peace of mind is so important for relatives knowing they are in safe hands."

"I was very impressed with the care my friend has received whilst at Westvale House. All the staff have been lovely, and very attentive to her needs. They have made her stay at the home like a holiday when she was very worried. The food was brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. I can not thank the Home and the staff enough."

"I can honestly not begin to express how fantastic the staff are at Westvale. My grandad moved in, in October and from the very beginning the staff could not do enough for him. From the management team to the domestic staff, they all went above and beyond for him. His face would always light up when staff came into his bedroom. They even helped with my nana when she would visit. Unfortunately, his stay wasn't too long and during his final day at Westvale, the staff was absolutely fantastic and could not do enough for us as a family to ensure we were also looked after and comfortable at that time. Once again I would just like to thank all the staff for everything."

"My 85-year-old mum has just had 6 weeks of respite after a hip replacement. After 3 weeks in the hospital, they brought her back to the Mum we know, they have worked wonders. The staff are all great, always happy and smiling. She loved the food and made friends with the other residents. She enjoyed the activities and was encouraged to take part which is what we wanted. Thank you so much."

"Our fiercely independent mum refused to go into any home. We her daughters were at our wit's end and found the general manager wonderfully reassuring. Her team delivered 100% superb quality of care, concern and support. Confident they were listening, proactive, reactive and competent, a couple of minor initial niggles were quickly resolved with good communication, smiles and a can-do attitude. The hallmarks of a professional facility. The food, gardens, furniture and cleanliness were exactly what we hoped they would be. At the end of Mum's life, the whole team guided us and ensured she had a serene and calm soft landing. We were overwhelmed by the compassion showed to us as we kept a 3 day vigil and want to especially thank (in no order) those who cared for us as we cared for Mum. Thank you to you all."

"My wife became a resident at Barchester Westvale House Care Home in December 2022. Having had no involvement with residential care previously, I obviously approached the situation with some trepidation. I can honestly say that over the last seven/eight months, the staff and management have been excellent. The manager, in particular, has been so helpful and assisted me on numerous occasions. The full-time staff, at times under serious pressure, are really professional and helpful. I would like to express my gratitude to the management, nursing staff and carers for being there for my lovely wife."

"My mum went into Barchester Westvale House Care Home for end-of-life care on 11/07/2023. Sadly, she passed away on 25/08/2023 but the care she received whilst there was excellent in every way. Without exception, staff were warm, empathetic, professional and so caring (to both Mum and us). On discharge from a lengthy hospital stay, Mum was so poorly and frail that she was only expected to be in Westvale House for one to two weeks. She was actually there for over six weeks and we believe this is because of the quality of the care she received there and having all her medical needs fully met. Westvale has a calm atmosphere and everyone is made to feel welcome. Although Mum's appetite was small, she loved the food she had and her room was clean, bright and comfortable. For all the reasons already mentioned, we are so pleased that Mum's final weeks were in a place that was so caring and so responsive to her changing needs. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Westvale to anyone looking for a home where the care is superb."

"The service was excellent, the staff at Barchester Westvale House Care Home went the extra mile caring for my dad, until he passed, with the superb nursing care he received. The home is comfortable, safe and secure and welcomed my dad and family with compassion. The staff provide an excellent service to all and are a credit to the company. Thank you from all the family for the care my dad received, even if it was a short time."

"Dad struggled to settle when he first moved into the care home after losing is wife, of sixty-four years, only a few weeks prior to this. But after only seven weeks in the home and several changes to his medications plus the care he was receiving, he was more settled and enjoying interactions with all the staff despite missing his old home. He's had a recent short spell in hospital but it was lovely to hear him say he was looking forward to getting 'home; - meaning the care home! So reassuring for us, as a family."

"My mum was admitted to Westvale in March from another local care home where the care had been lacking and the management shocking. The experience we had at Westvale was no less than outstanding. Lovely atmosphere, amazing staff, good nutritious food with plenty of options, and a manager who was visible and very much involved. Sadly, Mum passed away after only six weeks at the home. The last week of her life we camped out in her room. Each and every member of staff treated Mum with amazing respect and dignity, her care was outstanding. We were offered meals, drinks and anything we needed. We are truly grateful to everyone at the home for making Mum's last weeks comfortable and providing her with the care she deserved. Amazing care home and amazing staff."

"After a lengthy hospital stay, we were so pleased that my dad was able to gain a place at Barchester Westvale House Care Home. He moved in within two days of being offered a place and the staff have been amazing, getting to know him and taking care of him. Nothing seems like too much trouble for the kind and friendly staff and management. Although his appetite is not what it once was, he is enjoying the food and his room is light and airy. We are very pleased with the care shown so far. Thank you."

"So very grateful to have found such a lovely, welcoming home for my dad to have regular respite stays. Upon my first viewing, I knew this was the right place for us. My dad's en-suite bedroom was so comfortable, bright and airy. Every time I rang him during his stay he was always upbeat and full of praise for all staff members. He would complement the food he'd had and said how well he had slept. I can't thank everyone enough for making my dad's stay perfect for him. My dad is booked to stay again while I go on holiday in October and both of us are so pleased that he is able to go back there. Many thanks to all."

"My sister moved into Barchester Westvale House Care Home in January this year after her care home was closed down. It was a really stressful time for us, as a family, as the closure was very sudden and we didn't have long to find a suitable home for her needs. From the onset, the manager at Westvale was truly amazing. She did everything in her power to reassure us, as a family, that they could cater for my sister, that she would be well cared for and that Westvale was the right home for her. The manager took away all the worries that we had, she listened to our many questions and queries and answered each one in a caring and professional manner. I cannot thank her enough for what she has done for my sister and us, as a family, since my sister moved there in January. All the staff at Westvale are really lovely and have made my sister feel right at home from the start. I am so glad we chose Westvale for my sister."
