Activities at Westvale House Care Home

A local Warrington charity, “Neighbourhood Food Larder” brought smiles to Residents and staff with their very colourful delivery.  Residents chose their own bunches of flowers containing some of their favourite blooms.  General Manager, Charlotte Aspinall said “ What a wonderful and colourful sight this is, Residents are thrilled to have so much colour around the home.  We are very grateful to the Charity “Neighbourhood Food Larder”

Residents and Staff were delighted to receive some delicious Body Shop products kindly given to Westvale House by Carly Parkinson of "Beauty Angels"  We had fun voting for the most popular fragrance & the winner was......a Special Edition "Cool Cucumber" hand cream

We thanked Matt & his colleague who brought a new resident to our home in their ambulance.

For their long drive back to Blackpool, on the hottest day of the year, we gave the crew a goodie bag each which included a Barchester refillable water drinking bottle each, filled with fresh cool water.  The team set off nicely hydrated & we look forward to providing refills anytime for the team if they are passing

Westvale brought a touch of the silver screen magic to the home with their very own Film Festival with matinee performances of classic movies each afternoon to the delight of Residents.

The tickets were printed for residents to attend showings of some of their favourite movies throughout the month and as they sat back to enjoy these ultimate classics, popcorn and mocktails were served.  The Film Festival was so much fun that they are arranging their next one already with a BOND theme.

For some residents at Westvale the long awaited reunion with family and friends became a reality recently, as garden visits have now been allowed to commence at the home.   There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment behind the scenes at Barchester Healthcare, who run Westvale care home. Social distancing was still in place, and homes that are able to take part must have a large accessible garden.  We have a lovely gazebo to combat light summer showers so that we can still facilitate our supportive families when they are visiting.

Charlotte Aspinall, Senior General Manager at the home, said: “This has been a much welcomed development in what have been very strange times. The visits are safe and organised, and it was wonderful to see how happy it made the residents. We will of course endeavour to keep up the high standards of care, and continue with our ever evolving life enrichment programme, to keep residents engaged. But this was a lovely day.”

Jack resident at Westvale said: “The staff here have been so wonderful and generous with their time, keeping us busy and entertained, especially showing us how to use video calls, but nothing beats seeing my family in real life. This was a special moment, and I was over the moon.”

Staff, residents, loved ones and members of the community cheered on NHS staff and other key workers at Westvale who are helping to keep the country running during the coronavirus pandemic. Those who have recently lost a loved one, stood strong and everyone took a moment to remember as they showed their appreciation for our key workers.
