Activities at White Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Read our brochure ‘Life-enriching activities’ for more information about life in our care homes.

Shayla Sharmeen
Activities Coordinator
Hi my name is Shayla and I'm the activities coordinator here at White Lodge.
Prior to taking the position, I joined White Lodge as care assistant in 2022 and loved every minute of my role. My passion is very much in supporting the day to day lives of the people we care for, it is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities.
Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining White Lodge that will make for an enriched activities program to be developed, one that keeps them at the heart of the local community. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.
We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.
Celebrating life at White Lodge Care Home
Sensory Trolley
The residents at White Lodge have been enjoying afternoons of fun with the new addition to our weekly activities – the sensory trolley, a sensory-led activity designed to bring peace, relaxation and connection to those living with dementia.
The trolley is fully accessible and features herbs, lights, music, aromatherapy, diffuser finger painting, colourful ribbons and many more. The sensory trolley helps residents with dementia to relax and de-escalate stressful and upsetting situations. It also allows people of all ages to enjoy a safe and comfortable environment.
It has been a real joy to see the increased interaction by residents within our homes with the trolley and with each other.
Gentlemen's Club
This week's gentlemen's club was a bit different as we moved our location to the garden as we wanted to make the most of the last few days of summer! The residents had few options to choose from. For example, playing golf, throwing a bin bag or passing the ball while listening to nice summer music in the background. Though it was a gentlemen's club, we welcomed everyone for a fun-filled afternoon!
The gentlemen of White Lodge said they would look forward to the next club where we will have a different topic to discuss or a different game to play!
Minibus trip to Wyvern Theatre in Swindon
Residents from White Lodge Care Home were delighted to take part in a community art project organised by Julia and brought to life through the collaboration of 18 care homes across the area. The exhibition was officially inaugurated by the Mayor of Swindon at the Wyvern Theatre and features four wonderful pieces created by our residents.
Guests enjoyed a captivating magic show by David and musical performances by Tony and Nicki, making the celebration truly special. The artwork will remain on display at the Wyvern Theatre before moving to the Great Western Hospital to continue inspiring others.
Floristry masterclass
The residents at white lodge had a flower arranging session in the afternoon with Royal Wootton Bassett Flower Club and decided to put them around the communal areas so that they can enjoy fresh flower when they are having a cup of tea.
One of the residents said, I wasn't sure if I would be able to arrange the flowers because of my limited eyesight. but the ladies made it so easy for me by preparing the flowers and foliage, I made my own little flower bouquet!
Intergenerational Smiles
White lodge had another successful intergenerational session with giggles around the home. thanks to Lucy and all the lovely families to join us today and gave the chance to our residents to have an amazing experience with the the little ones.
One of the residents said you took me back 60 yrs back when my children were small and used to crawl on the floor. can't wait to see them again next month.
Cooking Club
This afternoon the residents got together to make delicious dog biscuits for our dog show on Saturday. Today’s session was led by Claire, one of our resident's daughters. She bought the lovely idea of making home-made biscuits for the dogs, as we all want to make sure our dog gets the most nutritious food.
First we made our dough following an easy recipe which required flour, honey, egg, peanut butter (xylitol free) and water. Then we used a cookie cutter to give them cute shapes like bones, hearts, stars, kisses. The kitchen helped us to bake the biscuits, and we stored them in an airtight container for Saturday!
Piano Concert at White Lodge!
A truly magical afternoon as our residents enjoyed a beautiful piano concert by Steven Fixter right here at White Lodge Care Home.
Music has a special way of bringing smiles and creating precious moments for everyone.
Generous Gift from Gardening Group
The residents were delighted to receive organic vegetables from the Jubilee Gardens Project. The residents personally went to the chef and requested him to cook the vegetables the way they would like to eat!
We would like to thank you on behalf of the staff and resident at White Lodge.
Sensory Session Courtesy of Boots
The residents at White Lodge were delighted when Nickie from our local Boots pharmacy visited us with their beautiful memory box. We had our dementia specialist Isabella also with us.
Boots, have been working with Victoria Tischler, Professor of Behavioural Science at the University of Surrey, to develop a project in care homes providing items from the Boots Archive to stimulate interesting discussions and promote positive feelings.
The items were inspired by shopping trips to Boots over the years, and includes many things that our residents may have been in contact with at different points in their lives. Listening to beautiful stories, and sharing their experiences and memories has been simply wonderful.
Male Choir Gets us in Fine Voice!
The residents at White Lodge had a wonderful afternoon with the performance from ''End of the track'' all male choir.
They set a magical atmosphere at the home by taking us back to the musical era of 1960's and 1970's. One of the residents R.M found his friends who came as members of the choir, how great it that.
We cant wait to have another visit from you!
Community Disco
The residents at White Lodge Care Home had their first Community Disco with all-time classic hits from 1950's, 60's & 70's played by White Horse Rock and Roll. We can't thank the dancers from White Horse Rock and Roll for their time and effort to make the afternoon special for our residents.
Sharing a laugh, a dance, or a song with fellow residents helps build a sense of community and strengthens social bonds. We are going to continue our Community Disco on the last Wednesday of each month. See you again!
