Activities at Wimborne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Zoe Freeman

Lead Activities Coordinator

I have been working in care since 2019 and love the industry. I came from working on cruise ships and running events and activities there which has set me up to be a successful activities coordinator in care. You will never see me without a smile on my face and always bring my fun and bubbly personality to my job. My favourite part of my job is making people cheerful  and help make their wishes come true to show people that age is just a number and we can have fun no matter what!

Donkey Sanctuary

Who doesn’t love a donkey? We are so lucky to have a sanctuary on the island who homes over 30 retired or unwanted donkeys from all over and welcomes in everyone to come along to pet these wonderful creatures. We got together our furry loving residents to go along and get some animal therapy and enjoy a nice cup of tea and cake to finish of this wonderful day out. Meeting animals makes such a difference to our residents, it can be so calming to stroke these donkeys and everyone looks forward to the sanctuary opening up over the summer.

Memory Choir

Here at Wimborne we all love music and we like to sing each and every day! We wanted to create choir for everyone on the island and all our local communities to come and be a part of something we are so passionate about. In partnering up with the amazing Hampshire Memory Choir we had our opening session with the presence of our deputy Mayor of Havant who wanted to show his support in this wonderful experience for our whole community. We invited in everyone, those living with dementia or people who are supporting those with dementia to come along and see the difference music can make. Everyone sang songs with new friends and then enjoyed freshly made homemade cakes by our head chef. We already can’t wait for the next session.

Biscuit Baking at its Best

Here at Wimborne, we celebrated National Biscuit day with a biscuit making masterclass. Our head chef Hayden took us through his tricks of the trade to make the perfect shortbread.

After trying and testing what we made, we then took part in a biscuit naming quiz, all washed down with a lovely cup of tea of course!

"Oh I do like to be beside the seaside..."

The only way to spend a sunny day on Hayling Island is of course by our beautiful beach. Our residents love going down to the seafront where the famous Hayling Billy train resides. Luckily as summer is fast approaching, a visit to the lovely pebble beach cafe right on our doorstep is a must!

Grand National

We enjoyed a day all about the Grand National here at Wimborne Care Home. Everyone joined in our Wimborne National horse game with our worthy winner horse number 6 having a shaky start but taking home first place rosette by the final race! All staff and residents joined a sweep stake for the final race and lucky winner, Tim got the winning horse! Everyone felt like they were at the races themselves and it was a day full of energy, fun and games!

Cupcake Delivery

Being just under a week away from our first Memory Choir event, our General Manager, Sarah headed out to a local support group to give them some home made sweet treats and invite them to be part of our Memory Choir. On the 18th April we are starting our choir in partnership with The Memory Choir and can’t wait to see everyone here at 2pm to start our musical journey!
