Activities at Wimborne Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Zoe Freeman

Senior Activity Coordinator

I have been working in care since 2019 and love the industry. I came from working on cruise ships and running events and activities there which has set me up to be a successful activities coordinator in care. You will never see me without a smile on my face and always bring my fun and bubbly personality to my job. My favourite part of my job is making people cheerful  and help make their wishes come true to show people that age is just a number and we can have fun no matter what!

Life at Wimborne Care Home

Nutrition & Hydration Week

Nutrition & Hydration Week

Nutrition & Hydration Week aims to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in the provision of food and drink. It offers an opportunity to work with the fantastic chefs that Barchester has and also to enhance the mealtime experience that we provide.

Here at Wimborne, we celebrated Nutrition & Hydration Week by providing residents with well-balanced, nutritious meals and snacks throughout the week. Residents even got involved and helped to prepare some of it.

Tuesday we started the day off with eggs - boiled, fried, poached or scrambled - all freshly prepared to order.

Wednesday was the 'mid-week roast', which was loaded with seasonal vegetables or a delicious salmon en croute. Both options were available as puréed and fortified foods for those who require a soft food diet.

Thursday was ‘exotic fruit salad and freshly squeezed orange juice,' which was all prepped and prepared by residents.

‘Fishy Friday’ was freshly battered haddock with chips and homemade tartar sauce, followed by a delicious ice cream sundae.

St Patrick's Day

St Patrick's Day

Residents, staff and loved ones all had an amazing time celebrating St Patrick's Day in style. Second Chef, Lisa, prepared a delicious traditional Irish lunch, followed by a scrumptious, naughty-but-nice, homemade Irish cream bread & butter pudding. The afternoon was filled with joy as everybody got the chance to watch the local dance school perform a traditional Irish dance.

An Afternoon of Flower Arranging

An Afternoon of Flower Arranging

Once a week, Lynn & Kerry collect bunches of various flowers from the local florists so residents are able to create their own bouquets. The completed bouquets are then proudly shown off around the home and within residents' rooms, which really brighten up the place.

Red Lion's Afternoon Tea Party

Red Lion's Afternoon Tea Party

All residents were invited to The Red Lion's Afternoon Tea Party to celebrate Valentine’s Day for all the local dementia & Alzheimer’s care homes. There was live entertainment provided by local singer, Wendy, with games and freshly homemade cakes and sandwiches provided. Residents really enjoyed the afternoon, especially meeting other residents from the local care home community.

Annual Christmas Party

Annual Christmas Party

On the eve of 22nd December, residents, relatives and staff all got involved with the Christmas spirit of the party. There was live entertainment provided by Karen Williams, a festive buffet, raffles and Christmas games. The evening was a huge amount of fun with everybody in high spirits, which sparked a lot of memories for residents to talk about.
