Activites at Winchester House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local priory and garden centres, as well as visits from musicians, a wide range of entertainers. We are lucky enough to have a enthusiastic team of volunteers who regularly visit the home throughout the week, and our yearly pantomime is a real crowd-pleaser and is well-attended by residents, relatives and members of staff. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Winchester House is fun and active.

Kath's Birthday
I would like to introduce Kath. She is our oldest resident here at Winchester House. Kath has just turned 106 years young. Kath spent her day celebrating with the staff and her family all around her.
Kath is an inspiration to us all, as she has had a few setbacks, but bounced back every time. She likes to get up most days. She enjoys reading on a day-to-day basis. She says it keeps her.
Mind-active, she also loves to play scrabble with her family and also the residents. She does, however, win every time. Kath has the same routine every evening. She likes to sit with a glass of red wine and cheese and crackers with her feet up in front of the TV.

Michael's boat trip!
This is Michael. He lives here at Winchester House. When Michael first came to Winchester House, he didn’t want to join in with any activities. He remained in his room on a daily basis. Over time, the activity staff, with help from the care staff, began to earn his trust and slowly brought him out of himself.
Michael now, with confidence, walks around the home to see his friends that he’s made here. He also comes along to activities and goes out on trips. He had just come on our boat trip with his daughter, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Day out with the Gentlemen!
We wanted to treat our gentlemen to a day out, and they chose to visit the Royal Engineers Museum.
They loved the museum and had a lot of fun trying on all of the different uniforms from all the different countries.
Our gentlemen enjoyed it so much that they have asked us to take them again soon!
Chinese New Year!
We celebrated Chinese new year here at Winchester House.
We dressed the home with blown-up dragons and lanterns. We also played Chinese music around the home, which some of the residents had never heard before, so we were all learning new things about another country.
We also had a party where all our residents could sample some of the Chinese cuisine and rice wine.
Celebrating the King's Birthday
We celebrated the Kings Birthday In style this year by watching the trooping of the colour and seeing the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, and we also raised a glass to wish him a very happy birthday.
Time for a cuppa, Dementia Charity
We held a cake sale here at Winchester House for the Dementia UK Charity, we invited all our friends and family and our local community to help us raise money for this amazing charity that is so close to our hearts.
Celebrating VE Day
We celebrated VE Day in style here at Winchester House, some of the staff got dressed up included our wonderful manager Liza Burchell. We had a performer in singing music from the 1940-50s. The resident’s then enjoyed an afternoon tea with scones and fresh cream, all in all it was a fantastic day.
David's Birthday
Myself and family members of a resident, wanted to do something special for his birthday as he has been very poorly. So we held a party for him with his family and close friends who he has been living with for the last couple of years. The chef made a lovely cake, we put on a lovely spread and also decorated the dining area for him, needless to say, David the resident was overwhelmed with the amount of love and effort that people had gone to for his birthday and made some special memories.
Easter Celebrations
We have had so much fun here at Winchester House over the Easter holidays, we did Easter crafts, were our residents made masks and eggs to hang on a tree, We also had PJ & Rose and also Not Nat King Cole performers in, to sing for our residents, which they loved. we also did a Easter egg hunt for our friends and families and also the local community. We held a Easter colouring competition for children to win an Easter egg, I’d like to say that this did go down very well.
