Activities at Winchester House Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local priory and garden centres, as well as visits from musicians, a wide range of entertainers. We are lucky enough to have a enthusiastic team of volunteers who regularly visit the home throughout the week, and our yearly pantomime is a real crowd-pleaser and is well-attended by residents, relatives and members of staff. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Winchester House is fun and active.

Life at Winchester House Care Home

The Board of Inspiration

At Winchester, we also have an inspirational board. Our Activities Coordinator puts up a quote for the day and we encourage the staff to write what is it they are thankful/grateful for. It invites positivity to the home and to the staff coming to work. We also have messages from local children.

St Patrick's Day

In a time of uncertainty and isolation, St Patrick's Day brought the opportune moment to remind us all that no matter our circumstances, we all have something to feel lucky for. Residents at Winchester House took pride in sharing what made them feel lucky or grateful and we all joined together to create this wonderful display.

Museum of the Moon

One small step for man, one giant leap for Winchester House! Earlier this month we took some of our residents into historic Rochester to visit the Museum of the Moon being held at Rochester Cathedral.

After driving round in circles to find parking we made it inside and everyone was in awe of this wonderful art installation and the beautiful building in which it was held. We enjoyed a hot cup of tea before heading back and boasting to every that we had been to the moon!

Record Player

We now have a portable record player to take to the different areas of the home to remember our favourite recording artists and enjoy the pleasure of looking at the different record sleeves. Residents love the sound of a vinyl record, whisking them back to an age of dance halls, big bands and top of the pops.

Valentine's Ball

On the 14th of February we hosted our Valentine’s Ball, we spread love throughout the home and enjoyed music with Trevor the Travelling Troubadour, residents have been making cards and decorations to celebrate alongside friends and family. As the Beatles once said “All You Need Is Love”.

Arts & Crafts

This week, we thought about the environment around us and decided to have a go at making our very own bird feeders. We melted the lard and mixed it with bird seed before pressing the mixture into yoghurt pots ready to place in the fridge to set.

Everyone had great fun and are looking forward to seeing all the birds gather outside their windows for their own little winters feast.
