Activities at Winchester House Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local priory and garden centres, as well as visits from musicians, a wide range of entertainers. We are lucky enough to have a enthusiastic team of volunteers who regularly visit the home throughout the week, and our yearly pantomime is a real crowd-pleaser and is well-attended by residents, relatives and members of staff. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Winchester House is fun and active.

Life at Winchester House Care Home

Farewell

In October Winchester House said farewell to Shelia our Senior Activities Coordinator after 8 years working at the home. We treated her and the residents to an afternoon Cinema showing of Mamma Mia with popcorn and treats.

Residents had their tickets for the show and our now Head of Activities - Amber showed the residents to their seats. We all loved singing along to the Abba hits and Shelia had presents and flowers presented to her. We wish her all the best of luck in the future!

Tickled Pink Productions

Tickled Pink Productions

In September, Tickled Pink Productions wowed us with one of their new cabaret shows! We were taken back in time to the 1950’s with popular hits such as Elvis and Buddy Holly.

The residents played along with their tambourines and inflatable guitars, as well as seeing how fast they could dance along to the hand jive.

A Bit of Basketball

A Bit of Basketball

The look on everyone’s face when we suggested a morning of basketball was utter disbelief. Little did they know what we had in store! Sitting or standing, the residents absolutely loved having a go at our indoor arcade game, seeing who could score the most. The smiles on everyone’s faces certainly made the morning one to remember. We are so looking forward to our next basketball slam-dunk!

Game Show Week

Game Show Week

In July, Winchester House hheld a game show week! This was a chance for Amber one of our Activity Co-ordinators to dust off her sparkly dresses and do her ‘Dolly Dealing’!

We enjoyed Play Your Cards Right, Blankety Blank and Family Fortunes, residents loved reminiscing and you could hear them shouting “higher” or “lower” across the home! Of course we remembered you get nothing for a pair…. Not in This Game!

This started off lots of conversations about past game events hosted at the home, even the Golden Shot was mentioned!

National Care Home Open Day

In June we stepped back in time to the 1940’s – Winchester House celebrated National Care Home Open Day plus 75 years since D Day. Children from Wouldham's  All Saints Primary School were invited alongside All Saints Church to enjoy a coffee morning and street party.

The children played traditional games and entertainment was provided by Sue Caroline, who got the children to join in with her to entertain the residents. Members of the local community plus deputy mayors of Medway and Tonbridge & Malling Council joined in alongside staff! Residents enjoyed a glass of bucks fizz with homemade cakes and everyone enjoyed an ice cream!

The children learnt about life in wartime and were treated to replica gas mask boxes with ration books. One of our residents commented “This has been the most amazing day!” We couldn’t have agreed more!

Reading Club

In June, Holmesdale School visitedn and residents and students had an amazing time together while forming a new reading group. The children will visit the home regularly for five weeks and will have plenty of activities with the residents, and a chance to make new friends. Ryan, the teacher and organiser of the event was really impressed and happy with the first session. Winchester's staff and residents are looking forward to welcoming the children again.
