Activities at Wood Grange Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Read our brochure ‘Life-enriching activities’ for more information about life in our care homes.

Celebrating life at Wood Grange Care Home
Waterside Garden Centre
A lovely outing to Waterside Garden Centre for a stroll around the aquarium, antiques store and shops. We admired the beautiful plants, flowers and colours before Janet laid eyes on Gary the Gorilla!
We settled in the café and enjoyed coffee and cake before the rain took over and washed us back inside!
Shopping at Tesco
We enjoyed a lovely trip out to Tesco with our residents. Everyone had a wonderful time browsing the aisles, picking up a few favourite treats and enjoying a change of scenery. There were plenty of smiles, chats and even a few little surprises along the way.
Outings like these are always such a joy, they give our residents the chance to stay active, social and independent while sharing special moments together.
Jingle and mingle session
Today we had our second Jingle and Mingle session with Jo Jingles. The residents were so pleased to see the little ones again and were mesmerised by the bubble machine themselves!
They spent time chatting to the mothers and found great interest in getting to know their day-to-day lives. The Jingle sessions are now a monthly occurrence and everyone cannot wait for September's session to come around.
Outing to vine farm House
We recently took the residents to the Vine Farm shop, we looked around and sat in the café where they enjoyed some cakes.
Tony and Mary celebrate 68 years
Mary, a resident of Wood Grange, and her husband Tony celebrated 68 years of marriage in style in the comfort of the Baston Lounge.
They enjoyed an afternoon tea with friends and family which was prepared by the kitchen team. The room was beautifully decorated with style and class by the activities team with attention to photographs throughout the years that were displayed. Not only was it their wedding anniversary, but it was also Tony’s 90th birthday. Therefore, during Tony’s speech he said “Mary has always been the best birthday present of all”. Nurse, Simona, made the happy couple a wonderful anniversary cake that all the guests enjoyed.
Oktoberfest at Wood Grange
Oktoberfest at Wood Grange! What an incredible day of celebration we had at Wood Grange today! Our residents were treated to a festive three course themed feast featuring traditionally cooked sauerkraut, smoked cheeses and meats, schnitzel, strudels, pretzels and plenty of sweet treats. And of course, no Oktoberfest would be complete without a refreshing selection of German beers to top it all off!
The atmosphere was full of laughter, joy and party spirit, a true Oktoberfest celebration right here at our home.

A trip to Ingoldmells, Skegness
Barry’s Wish - We asked Barry in Memory Lane if he had a wish, somewhere he would like to go or something he would like to do.
Barry explained his wish would be to go to Skegness and have fish and chips on the beach and this is exactly what we did along with Barry’s friends. We took them first to enjoy their fish and chips on Bibby’s Pier. We were greeted by a dramatic rain pouring, but for us, this was not a negative.
We embraced the rain and had such a giggle. We then indulged in fun at the arcades and finished off with a Mr Whippy!
Garden centre trip
We would like to share with you our trip to Pennell’s Garden centre in Silk Willoughby.
We had a wonderful time admiring the colourful plants, garden goodies and even treated ourselves to coffee and cake in the café area. We were accompanied by our wonderful work experience students Toby and Jemima.
Sugar Mill Pub
We had the best little outing at The Sugar Mill Pub – a perfect mix of pints, a few rounds of cards, and of course some sweet treats to top it off. Great vibes, good laughs and even better company.
Can’t beat afternoons like this!

Carer celebrates 10-years of service
A Carer at Wood Grange in Bourne has received a prestigious 10 Years’ Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for a decade.
Petra Smith, now Carer / Team Leader, started at Barchester in September 2015 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.
Springfields
Today we took the residents to do some shopping and have a look around the gardens.
We also sat at the café where they enjoyed fish and chips.
Jingle and Mingle session
We had a fabulous intergenerational session with Jo Jingles. We welcomed mothers, babies and toddlers to join us and engage in a music morning.
The residents were overcome with happiness as they spent time with the children. Even being able to hold the babies of the residents was such a privilege. Due to the success of the morning, we are making this a monthly event which will be known as Jingle and Mingle. Our first session got fully booked by the community in just an hour!
Gentleman's Club
We would like to tell you about our trip to Weatherspoons for the gentleman’s club.
We took a ride in the mini-bus into town to enjoy a pint in the sunshine. We indulged in pub snacks and a classic game of Scabby Queen. We sat outside on the decking and lapped up the bright atmosphere. It was a wonderful afternoon where we made new memories!
