Activities at Wood Grange Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Celebrating life at Wood Grange Care Home

A fun day out!

A fun day out!

We had a lovely outing with some of our wonderful residents on a trip to Sophie Allport.

Everyone enjoyed browsing the beautiful homeware, gifts and seasonal displays, sharing conversations and taking in the lovely surroundings. Outings like these are a fantastic way to promote independence, choice and social interaction while creating special memories together.

To top off a brilliant day, we couldn’t resist a stop at the McDonald’s drive-thru for a well-earned treat! There were plenty of smiles (and full tummies!) on the journey home.

It’s the simple moments like these that bring so much joy.

Intergenerational fun at Wood Grabge

Intergenerational fun at Wood Grabge

Our Jo Jingles sessions at Wood Grange are always filled with smiles, laughter, and wonderful connections across generations.
Residents and little ones come together to enjoy fun singing, music, movement, and interactive activities that bring joy to everyone involved. It’s amazing to see friendships blossom as young and old share special moments, songs, and plenty of giggles!

These sessions are a fantastic way to promote wellbeing, create lasting memories, and celebrate the power of community through music.

Let's keep fit together!

Let's keep fit together!

Residents got active for Senior Health and Fitness Day which took place on May 27th. Residents participated in an armchair fitness class held by Louis from The Universal Fitness Centre in Bourne.

Created to inspire senior-friendly physical activity, the national day was launched to increase awareness of the importance of remaining active to maintain strong, healthy joints and muscles, and to encourage diet and lifestyle changes for an overall improvement to wellbeing, and illness prevention.

Residents spent the morning with Louis as he gave an informative talk on the importance of exercising. Followed by a fun exercise class where Louis demonstrated some gentles exercises which residents could continue to do independently or in an exercise group within the home.

Intergenerational session and reminiscing

Intergenerational session and reminiscing

A beautiful surprise visit today from little Ivy-Lou. She spent the morning playing in the garden with Patricia and Pat, filling the space with laughter and mischief. At one point, she decided the best game of all was balancing her toys on the ladies’ hats! Something that had everyone giggling non-stop! As they watched her play, both Patricia and Pat found themselves reminiscing about their own children, sharing stories and reflecting on the simple joys that little ones bring. You could see their faces light up, those special moments that remind you how timeless and precious childhood really is.

What made it even more touching was how Ivy-Lou remembered them from her previous visits. Seeing those bonds grow, so naturally and warmly, was truly something special. Days like this are a gentle reminder of how meaningful these connections can be.

Home celebrate 81st anniversary of VE Day

Home celebrate 81st anniversary of VE Day

We marked the 81st anniversary of Victory in Europe Day in style by throwing a 1940s afternoon tea party to remember.  The home was decorated in red, white and blue and residents and staff dressed up in their 1940s-inspired glad rags and enjoyed an afternoon of big band music and dancing.  Chef Adriana whipped up a delicious Victoria sponge cake and decorated it beautifully.

Residents sat in the garden which was decorated with bunting as they enjoyed a slice of cake, hot drink whilst John a harpist came and played for everyone.

Audrey, resident at Wood Grange said: “I remember all the family gathering around the radio to listen to Churchill’s speech telling us the war was over, it still gives me goosebumps now, such an important date.  It was wonderful to reminisce and to celebrate with all the staff and residents here, we’ve all had such fun and lots of cake!”

Ice cream day at Wood Grange

Ice cream day at Wood Grange

To celebrate Ice Cream Day, our Activities Coordinator, Anya, organised a special visit from an ice cream van for everyone at Wood Grange!

Residents, along with their family members, enjoyed choosing their favourite ice cream, giving everyone the opportunity to make their own choice and support their independence. Seeing so many smiles as everyone enjoyed a sweet treat together made it a wonderful afternoon.

We also wanted to make sure that nobody missed out. Residents who were unable to come outside to the ice cream van were personally visited, with our fantastic care team helping to deliver ice creams around the home, so everyone could join in the celebrations.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the morning so special. It was another lovely opportunity to create happy memories together!

Residents meeting owls!

Residents meeting owls!

We were delighted to welcome a beautiful barn owl, an adorable 5-week-old baby barn owl, a hawk, and several other magnificent owls. Everyone was incredibly brave, with many residents and staff enjoying the opportunity to hold the birds and get up close to these wonderful creatures.

The excitement didn’t stop there… we even got to watch them fly across our lounge, which was an unforgettable experience for all! There were lots of smiles, laughter, and wonderful conversations throughout the visit. Thank you, Ryan, for such an engaging and memorable afternoon. We can’t wait to welcome Owl Adventures back to Wood Grange again soon!

Residents enjoy National BBQ week

Residents enjoy National BBQ week

Staff and residents went all out for National BBQ Week which is celebrated this year from May 25-31. Residents were invited to pull up a chair and enjoy the beautiful weather with some lovely cold drinks. A whole host of delicious freshly chopped salads and chips made by second chef James and the hospitality team accompanied burgers that had everyone queuing up for more.

Whilst being outside, residents were joined by Amanda - The Singing Gardener. The residents thoroughly enjoyed singing along and tapping their feet.

VE Day

VE Day

Wood Grange celebrated VE Day together in the sunshine. A huge thank you to Anya for beautifully decorating the garden, creating such a lovely atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. Residents were delighted to welcome John the harpist, whose wonderful music filled the garden as everyone relaxed, socialised, and enjoyed the afternoon together outdoors.

A special well done to Adriana for the beautifully decorated cake, which we all enjoyed with a lovely cup of tea in the garden. A truly special afternoon filled with music, laughter, and community spirit.

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo

Residents went loco celebrating Cinco de Mayo which takes place on 5th May every year.

Cinco de Mayo is a national day which celebrates freedom and liberty in Mexico. It marks the date in 1862 when President Benito Juarez sent troops to face the invading French army who were marching towards Mexico City.  The day is hugely important in Mexico and is celebrated with parades, battle re-enactments, fireworks and parties around the country.

Residents watched videos of parades and celebrations in Mexico, painted some Moroccans, had a Mexican quiz and enjoyed a brilliant Mexican themed dining with traditional Mexican food.

Celebrating Olivia!

Celebrating Olivia!

Congratulations to our wonderful Nurse Practitioner, Olivia, on an incredible 10 years of service with Barchester Healthcare! We came together in our café to celebrate this amazing milestone with plenty of laughter, delicious Domino's pizza, sweet treats and, of course, a few bubbles! Thank you, Olivia, for your unwavering dedication, compassion and hard work over the past decade.

Your kindness and commitment have made such a difference to the lives of our residents, their families and your colleagues. Here's to celebrating everything you've achieved and wishing you many more happy years with the Wood Grange family. Congratulations, Olivia!

BBQ at Wood Grange

BBQ at Wood Grange

We hosted a fantastic BBQ for our residents to enjoy, with everyone making the most of the beautiful day. Residents relaxed in our lovely garden, while others stayed cool and comfortable in the lounge due to the warm weather. Everyone still got to enjoy the delicious food and wonderful atmosphere together. A huge thank you and well done to our talented second chef, James, who received so many compliments for the fantastic BBQ!

To make the day even more special, we were joined by Amanda – The Singing Gardener, who entertained us with her beautiful singing. Residents loved joining in, singing along to familiar songs and sharing plenty of smiles and happy memories.

A fantastic live virtual experience at Wood Grange!

A fantastic live virtual experience at Wood Grange!

Residents at Wood Grange recently enjoyed a wonderful live virtual Scotch Whisky Experience, where we had the opportunity to learn all about the fascinating process of how Scotch whisky is made! From the ingredients and distillation process right through to maturation and bottling.

To make the experience even more interactive, residents had the chance to taste and sample some of their own whisky while taking part, making it a truly engaging and enjoyable event!

There were lots of discussions, smiles, and opportunities to learn something new together. Experiences like these are a great way to bring people together, spark memories, and enjoy trying something a little different.

A wonderful afternoon of whisky tasting

A wonderful afternoon of whisky tasting

Staff and residents were whisked away to the Highlands for a wonderful whisky tasting masterclass hosted by Lenka Whyles, Senior Specialist Tours and Tasting Manager for The Scottish Whisky Experience. Residents joined Lenka on a journey to find out all about Scottish whisky - from how it was first distilled, to where it is today, and what it is that makes Scottish whisky so prized all around the world.

The Scotch Whisky Experience sits at the top of Edinburgh’s famous Royal Mile, right next door to Edinburgh Castle. Its mission is to make the world fall in love with Scotch whisky. Having first opened to the public in 1988, The Scotch Whisky Experience was created when 19 individual Scotch whisky companies jointly invested money towards showcasing the Scotch whisky industry to visitors from all over the globe.

The atmosphere was calm, creative, and so relaxing! Everyone truly enjoyed expressing themselves through art. It was lovely to see so many of our residents getting involved, sharing smiles, and taking pride in their beautiful creations.
