Activities at Wood Grange Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Hello, my name is Ruby-Mae and I am the activities Co-Ordinator here at Wood Grange.

Prize Won at the Royal Windsor Flower Show

Robina's portrait was entered in the black & white photography category of a 'gardener' at The Royal Windsor Flower Show, Robina came 3rd! The activities coordinator entered the photograph on her behalf knowing her love for art and flowers. Robina was delighted with her prize of £1 which she spent on a packet of mints. She proudly wore her rosett and has the photograph on her wall. Robina said, "I have never won anything and I can't believe at the age of 94 I have won something, you must never give up".

Following this Robina discovered she was featured in the Stamford Mercury. Robina has been a weekly reader of the Stamford Mercury since the age of 4 and she is now 94! I shared the story with her brother Barry, who was very impressed with the article.

Trip to Rutland Water

Some of our residents enjoyed a delightful trip to Rutland Water. We started with a cozy hot drink at the Waterside Café, enjoying the perfect view of the water and watching the boats. Afterward, we found a lovely little picnic spot where we relished our picnic boxes, thoughtfully prepared by the Wood Grange kitchen team. It was a wonderful time, and Harry even said, "he has had the best day."

Virtual trip to Eden Project

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.

During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories.  A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.

Into the deep....

Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.

Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.

It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.

Charity Cake Sale

Residents and staff put the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’ with a charity cake sale to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation. Wood Grange were inspired by their Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, who has so far raised over two thousand pounds, which will also be donated to the Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, by taking part in a charity cook off.

Katya Petrova, General Manager said: “We love to fundraise for charities throughout the year, we pick different causes to support that have been selected by staff, residents and friends of the home. Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is a great cause that helps many people in need so we feel really proud to have been able to raise this money. Thank you to everyone who donated!”

Trip to Four Seasons Garden Centre

Residents from the Willoughby community enjoyed a trip out to the four seasons garden centre in Sleaford, where they enjoyed a walk around the shop then coffee and cake to finish! This was our first visit to the Four Seasons and the residents were impressed, being a little further than our local garden centres residents also enjoyed the views of the countryside.
