Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Tessa Sings Again

Tessa Sings Again

The beautiful singer, Tessa Collitt, was enthusiastically welcomed back to Woodland View to sing to an appreciative audience.

Tessa always knows how to gauge the mood of her audience and this visit was no exception. Tessa responded with songs that were uplifting, fun and easy to sing along to. Also taking requests from residents, Tessa didn't miss a beat and the applause after each song was a true sign that she was hitting the mark as well as the notes for everyone.

Back to the Farm!

Back to the Farm!

Residents of Woodland View are once again enjoying a little fresh air and heaps of animal therapy.

In 2017, the Woodland View minibus made fortnightly trips to Dedham Community Farm and got to mingle with a large assortment of animals. Now, the ground underfoot has improved with the weather, so the trips have started again. The farm has even more animals than before (various breeds of pigs, donkeys, horses, calves, goats, geese, guinea fowl, rabbits, etc.) and the residents get to feed and interact with many of them.

Dedham Community Farm is one of many ways Woodland View has opportunities for its residents to engage with animals, which also includes regular visits from a barn owl called Twilight, and staff pets.

Baking for Woodland View

Baking for Woodland View

Kaina, the daughter of former Senior Carer, Donna Phillips, wanted to help support the fundraising towards an Interactive Light Table. Kaina baked a fantastic selection of cakes to be sold during our open day event on 21st April. Needless to say, Kaina was kept busy with sales! Monies raised by Kaina on the day helped push the Interactive Light Table fund up to £3,821.38, which is now just shy of the halfway mark.

Also on hand for the open day event was Financial Adviser, John Cummings of Assist Law, who was available to answer any financial questions related to preparing for care.

To round the day off, entertainment was provided by former X-Factor contestant, Rob Jerome, who attracted a large audience that was singing along with him all of the way.

Creative Little Things

Creative Little Things

Youngsters attending Nanna's Nursery came to Woodland View to join residents for a special Easter crafts session. Among other things, residents and the children worked together on Easter greeting cards.

At the end of the session, the children were thanked for coming and their contribution by being given the chance to put their hands in Activities Coordinator, Kevin Riley's, 'Sweetie-treaty Jar', which went down very well!

Donating to the Homeless

Donating to the Homeless

Woodland View recently made a large number of knitted hats to donate to Colchester's Beacon House for the homeless. There were also a number of pairs of almost-new jeans given.

We continue to work with and support local concerns and organisations in the area as a member of the community.

Beacon House staff were very grateful for the donation and all of the items will be very welcome from those using the organisation's services.
