Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

The Jolly Boy's Outing Returns

The Jolly Boy's Outing Returns

Popular trio, 'The Jolly Boys Outing' returned to Woodland view for an afternoon of songs and tunes. Jovial characters, Len, John and Bob are firm favourites with residents and love visiting home, where they always receive a warm reception.

Hats, Hats, Hats!

Hats, Hats, Hats!

At Easter, what does one do for a bit of fun? Make Easter Bonnets, of course!

Woodland View residents had fun on a couple of days by creating multi-coloured Easter bonnets and covering them with cute yellow chicks, little bunnies and, of course, eggs. There was no distracting anyone, as the concentration levels peaked, although there was a lot of giggling around the room as the creations took shape.

Hats were worn on and off over a number of days in the build up to Easter, culminating in a judging session on Easter Monday. After much deliberation, a decision was made and the winning hat belonged to Mo Hobbs, who won a lovely jar of gin and tonic sweets. Congratulations, Mo!

Citizen Service Action Day

Citizen Service Action Day

In 2017, Woodland View welcomed a number of young NCS volunteer groups through its doors. As part of our ongoing partnership, we welcomed another group into the home recently as well.

Residents enjoyed a packed day of activities and fun that included quizzes, games, making Easter bonnets, relaxing for pamper sessions and having a good ol' singalong.

The group of nine enthusiastic volunteers also spent time with residents with dementia living on our Memory Lane community, colouring in pictures, batting balloons with water noodles and singing along to songs.

There was a photographer on hand to capture all of the fun and the day was featured in the Colchester Gazette.

Employee of the Month - March

Employee of the Month - March

Woodland View’s Employee of the Month for March is Kitchen Assistant, Lauren Faulkner. She was nominated by 12 colleagues within the home, as she stepped up in the kitchen when we did not have a chef on duty, and was able to take control and cooked for the day. She is always covering extra shifts at short notice too; she is a very valuable member of the team.

Congratulations, Lauren – a very well-deserved award.

Hats Off!

Hats Off!

Tania Honey is always a popular and regular visitor to Woodland View, where she joins us to sing for residents. On this occasion, we marked Cheltenham Ladies Day at Cheltenham by adding a theme.

'Hats Off' with Tania Honey (or on, actually!) saw the ladies and gentlemen donning hats for the session. It added a completely different atmosphere to the afternoon, which was lovely, and the only thing missing was a few horses!

Women Rule!

Women Rule!

To mark the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote, local historian, Trudie Mundell, was invited to Woodland View to give a talk to residents. Trudie focused on local characters who made their mark, lending their own voice and political influence in the strive for voting rights for women.

Trudie loved visiting Woodland View and enjoyed meeting everyone. She gave Activities Coordinator, Kevin Riley, contact details for someone else she knows who would probably want to give a talk at the home at a later date on other local historical facts.

Thank you, Trudie, for a fascinating insight into Colchester's own chapter in the fight for women's rights. Who knew?!
