Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Volunteer of the Year

Volunteer of the Year

Colin Bennett has been named 'Volunteer of the Year' at at the Barchester Care Awards 2017. The Volunteer of the Year award is given to an individual who shows real passion and dedication by freely giving time and energy at a Barchester home, hospital or complex care service – and this is something that Colin certainly does!

A Weekend of Volunteers

A Weekend of Volunteers

Volunteers taking part in the National Citizenship Service scheme spent a Saturday and Sunday with residents at Woodland View, providing a range of activities throughout each day.

Residents enjoyed exercise, music, games, pampering, chatting, quizzes and laughter as the fourteen teenagers put their time to very good use.

This is the third time groups of NCS volunteers have been welcomed to Woodland View in 2017 – and the residents absolutely love the interaction! The enthusiasm and care volunteers showed towards residents was heart-warming and demonstrated what great people were in development. A number of the volunteers asked for application forms at the end of the weekend for ongoing volunteering opportunities at the care home.

Woodland View and its residents would sincerely like to thank the NCS for their ongoing time and energy.

Residents Have Taste!

Residents Have Taste!

Residents at Woodland View enjoyed sampling a range of German wines as Pieroth Wines hosted a wine tasting afternoon.

A detailed explanation of each wine was provided and residents were told that the wines don't contain sulphites, which brings a number of benefits. The wines provided by Pieroth are also not available from supermarkets, so residents were sampling specialty wines. They also had the opportunity to sample a sherry that the host, Jo, brought along as an extra.

Following the tasting session, residents were able to order bottles of the wines they had tried, which provided great Christmas gift ideas. The sherry proved to be a popular purchase choice!

She is a good team player; she always helps out when asked. Maria has amazing nursing skills and we are all very proud to work with her and she is very supportive of everyone.

Surprise Birthday Celebrations

Surprise Birthday Celebrations

Woodland View resident, Gary, had a suspicious mind ahead of a special treat and received a thrilling surprise for his birthday, when his family and everyone at the home came together to show him that he was on their minds.

The hound dog was treated to a hip-gyrating performance from Elvis impersonator, Pete Webb. There were tears of laughter mixed with clapping and dancing – and singing filled the coffee lounge, as so many unchained melodies were performed with enough energy to almost lift the roof off!

This was a shared experience that you had to see to believe. Happy birthday, Gary!

A Touching Tribute

A Touching Tribute

Relatives and friends of loved ones who have passed away over the last year at Woodland View were invited to a special memorial service.

Reverend Ray Gibbs delivered a touching tribute to the memory of former residents. Those attending were then invited out into the gardens to each place an ornament on the Woodland View Memorial Tree, followed by a moment’s silence. Both the service and the placing of the ornaments on the tree were very touching.

On returning indoors, refreshments and cakes were offered to everyone and singer, Robert Jerome, made a very welcome return to the home to sing for everyone.
