Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Rolo the Sprocker Spaniel

Rolo the Sprocker Spaniel

Rolo the Sprocker Spaniel, age 10 months, was greeted by one of the residents, who kindly showered him with love and affection.

Sylvia played lots of games with him, including tug of war, ball games and hunt the bone. Rolo loved it; he was on his best behaviour, and followed on by playing with other people who lived in the home. It was a fun afternoon that was enjoyed by many. We're not sure who enjoyed it the most - residents or Rolo!

If you have a pet and would like to show him off around our home, please give Wendy Twydell a call on 01206 855390.

A Quiz Down Memory Lane

A Quiz Down Memory Lane

On a bleak and cold afternoon, residents enjoyed a trip down memory lane - but with a difference.

Our Activities Coordinator compiled a quiz using the latest technology, inviting everyone to join in with the quiz in our café on the ground floor.

They were able to see places of interest, guess which year certain things were invented in, and guess music tunes.

This was truly a success; one of the residents said: "I haven't had that much fun in ages. Although I did not win the quiz, I will be back. I cannot wait for the next one!”

Why not come in and join us on the next one? Please call Wendy Twydell on 01206 8553890 for more information.

A Trip to Maldon Promenade

A Trip to Maldon Promenade

Residents at Woodland View enjoyed a lovely day out to the Maldon Promenade.

Everyone walked along the promenade with an ice cream, which ended with a cup of tea before heading home.

They remembered the walks they used to have in their early years; one of the residents said that "it brought back so many fond memories. I can’t wait to go back again."

A Piece of Cake!

A Piece of Cake!

Mandy Ellis has every right to be pleased with herself on what was a very special day.

By day, Mandy is the temporary Head Housekeeper at Woodland View Care Home in Colchester. But Mandy has some additional and not-so-hidden talents! To celebrate Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday, Mandy made a special celebration cake. It sparkled, it was colourful and, as the residents of Woodland View found out - it tasted lovely.

Residents all came together in the Woodland View coffee lounge to sing Happy Birthday for Her Majesty, before tucking into a piece of the cake.

Many happy returns, your Majesty.

Sunshine, Ships & Shotley

Sunshine, Ships & Shotley

The Woodland View minibus whisked residents into Suffolk to Shotley Quay this week.

Basking in sunshine, residents watched the big ships navigate the waterways, before the drive back to Woodland View via the Suffolk Food Hall, enjoying the lovely countryside views on the way.

The phrase "you had to be there..." to enjoy the things that were laughed about certainly applies. Side-splitting banter made this trip one of the most enjoyable to date.

Where will we all go next?!

Not Lost For Words!

Not Lost For Words!

Wednesday 13th April was 'National Scrabble Day'. Residents at Woodland View Care Home were keen to mark the day. They thoroughly enjoyed a 2 team game which called for plenty of concentration as they pitted their wits against each other.

Nobody was lost for words during the game and points were scored on both sides. As always, there was an eventual winner, but it was a very close game with both sides considering themselves winners today.

A large format version of the game was used which makes things easier for partially-sighted players.
