Activities at Woodland View
Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.
Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.
There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.
We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.
Petra Hardman
Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.
I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Easter Fun at Woodland View
Woodland View's first Easter has been featuring a number of events over the Easter period.
Residents were treated to an Easter afternoon tea on Good Friday, the centre piece of which was a wonderful Easter Bunny cake. The amusing cake creation, showing the rear end of a white rabbit digging into the cake was the creation of Woodland View's own Head Chef Emily Pinnock.
The cake has been entered into a national competition within the Barchester Group of homes, so we wish Emily the very best of luck.
Residents and visitors to Woodland View enjoyed a wide section of sandwiches, savoury and sweet scones, cakes, salads and of course the icing on the cake was.... erm... the cake! Feedback strongly suggests the cake tasted as good as it looked!
An Easter Treat at Woodland View
Easter came early for all of us at Woodland View, residents and staff enjoyed a real treat of indulgence. The kind generosity off one of the resident’s hairdressers had baked a cake with a difference, Yummy!! The cake was kindly donated by Tansie Fitch to our General Manager Riet Jones. Easter cake for all of us to enjoy, the residents love it so much so we soon ran out of the cake. Thank you to our star cake baker, looking forward to some more exciting cakes!
The Magic of the Musical
When residents from Woodland View went to see a local production of ‘Half a Sixpence’, little did they know what would follow!
The original idea was to go and see the show on a Saturday afternoon, which featured the Grandson of one of the residents. Unfortunately, the gentleman in question was far too poorly to attend the show himself on the day – and has remained so which of course is very sad, but as they say - the show must go on. Woodland View residents who attended the show absolutely loved it and came back raving about the music, the acting, the dancing and the performers. But the show wasn’t quite over!
It just took a couple of phone calls and an email passed between a number of people for something truly wonderful to happen.
On a cold evening, twenty of the ‘Half a Sixpence’ cast members travelled from Witham to Colchester to give a special performance of songs from the show for the residents gathered in the Woodland View coffee lounge. After a warm up, the singing began. It was hoped Granddad would be able to hear the singing from his bed. However, the grandson came excitedly running into the lounge shouting ‘They’re bringing Granddad down!”
There were tears as ‘Granddad appeared. Dressed, hair combed and assisted in a wheelchair to enjoy the performance himself in person.
The magic of the musical once again.

Training for All
At Woodland View people are the heart of everything we do.
Barchester Healthcare have always believed in the importance of staff training. However, on the 11th March 2016, Woodland View not only achieved delivery of fire training to staff, but also to two of the residents!
Mo Hobbs and Maureen Dewar both participated in the homes training, gaining a certificate for completion of the course. Their attendance, interaction and feedback were invaluable, both commenting on how being more aware of the safety procedures and facilities in place made them feel so much safer.
Well done Mo and Maureen!
Sylvia and Skye
One of the residents Sylvia has grown up with her affectionate dog named Skye for many years, however, when Sylvia moved in to Woodland View, it was a bit of an ordeal to leave her behind! Woodland View welcomes Skye into the home and what a delight she has made to many of the residents let alone her owner.
We now have a dog that has become part of the Woodland View care home!
