Activities at Wykeham House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Rachel Stevens
I joined Wykeham House in October 2022 but I have worked doing activities in care homes since I left College, I began volunteering in a local home when I was 15 years old and then took on my first job in a care home when I was 18. I have enjoyed extending my knowledge to improve my work and have a Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse Awareness and Mental Health Awareness. I have also attended courses on End-Of-Life Activities as well as Dementia focused Activities. I love what I do and for me it is important that every day is a new day for our residents with new opportunities and a smiling face to come with it.

Life at Wykeham House Care Home
A Trip to the local School
Last week we were invited to a school to watch the children from their sing up group perform and stayed to watch the rehearsal of their nativity. When we returned to the care home the children from Toad Hall came by to visit our memory lane residents.
Bake Sale
We had a bake sale on the 12th December to raise money to make gift bags for the local food bank. The residents in their rooms have been making cards for the gift bags and The gifts were delivered today.
Christmas Party
On the 14th December, Wykeham House threw a fabulous Christmas Party! There was music and dancing, gorgeous food and of course, lots of festive Christmas Jumpers! Everyone had such a great time. It really got us all into the festive spirit.
Celebrating Elvis!
We had a wonderful time celebrating the release of Elvis’s Love Me Tender on 15th November. In the morning we decorated cakes ahead of our Elvis Ain’t Dead party this afternoon with Rock “n” Roll music.
Making Frozen Yogurt Bars
Residents across the home enjoyed sessions making Stacey Solomon’s yogurt bars.
Method:
- choose your yogurt flavour
- pour it into a tray
- choose your toppings (we chose dried fruit toppings)
- FREEZE!
Simple! But good fun! The residents then enjoyed these with their afternoon tea.
30 Years of Barchester
On Tuesday 22nd November we celebrated 30 years of Barchester in style. The residents were joined by family and friends and members of the community to celebrate this special anniversary with a live saxophonist and a sweet treat buffet!
